Tale about fish
2 - The wave

2 - The wave

Holding her breath, she turned around instinctively reaching for the trigger, only to see a familiar face greeting her with a smile.

Her eyes widened: unkempt beard, deep, wonderful blue eyes, and hair kept in a bun over his head.

"Teijo...?"

Sakana muttered, tears starting to form in her eyes. But as if she had suddenly woken up from a dream, she closed her eyes and pressed the trigger, a sudden burst of automatic fire coming out of her assault rifle.

Her whole body was tense from trying to control the recoil at such a close range, and in the silence of the night the corpse fell on the ground, without any blood being shed.

It turned into a black goo that seemed to be infiltratring the ground, leaving no trace of itself behind.

Breathing heavily, she bared her teeth, holding back the tears. How could she fall for it everytime, she wondered.

There was a part of her that just couldn't accept what it had lost.

SPLAAAAAAAAAASH!

A very loud sound echoed behind her, making her wince.

She immediately turned back, now looking for shelter behind the remnants of what looked like a small wooden boat by the beach.

Peeking out of her hiding spot, the view was something otherworldly: a mountain coming out of the water, huge waterfalls forming all around it.

The smell of seaweed suddenly reached her nostrils, and the skies turned darker and darker. Rain started pouring down.

The mountain grew bigger and bigger, until it showed its true form: a giant water dragon, spreading its wings as the rain came down more and more violently.

She couldn't believe her eyes, and she almost forgot to breathe, all her clothes drenched in rainwater.

The ground started shaking again, this time more violently, and she ducked behind the broken boat hull to try and save herself from falling to the ground.

It was just too much to experience all at once. The low rumble of the earthquake, the pouring rain, the howling wind...

She dropped her rifle and held her head, wondering just what she had gotten herself into. But it was too late to turn back now.

Peeking out of the boat once again, the giant water dragon was now flapping its wings, and a huge wave was building up far in the distance.

It fed on all the water of the ocean, becoming a huge tsunami, taller than any skyscraper she had ever seen. Appproaching at an alarming rate.

Her heart was pounding, and her whole body moved at once to escape as fast as she could. Boots sinking in the wet sand, she threw her backpack away in a hurry

and kept running, eventually tripping and falling to the ground, her knees deep in the sand. That was it.

Sakana looked up and all she could see was blue water glistening: it was beautiful.
