As he hurried up the steps, Ed swore he could feel Grindliah’s eyes on him; all the way up until he made it into the building. The door clattered behind him and Ed all but collapsed against the nearby lockers.
He’d practically sprinted up the last few steps. Had he been found? The lockers seemed to spin as he staggered down the hall. Was the world actually some sort of giant pvp arena that he’d just unknowingly made the rookie mistake of actually revealing himself to?
His breath felt uneven as he fumbled open his locker. Somehow or another he’d made it to the anex and while he was pretty sure the only way stuff might get any weirder was if it suddenly started raining cows or something; Ed took at least a little bit of comfort in the fact that at least his locker was normal.
The students were npcs, the teachers were apparently advanced npcs, There was a witch charming the basketball team. Ed laughed shakily to himself as he bent to pick up the pencils he’d dropped. What was next? Unicorns in the bathrooms? Dragons in the rafters?
“Hey kid.”
“Buwha!” Ed choked, pencils scattering everywhere and he frantically looked around for the source of the voice. Though, when he found it he almost immediately relaxed. It was just Mr. Garry. While he wasn’t exactly sure if anyone knew his precise job, Mr. Garry was popular enough that he wasn’t sure if it actually even mattered. He taught an ethics essentials class and while it only came around once a week or so, it was just one of those things that pretty much everyone could agree they looked forward to. But just to be sure, Ed snuck a glance up at his name.

Tamtilus Garry. Odd first name, but he’d seen weirder today. What really stuck out was the M.E.M. officer part. Ed frowned. Was that some sort of security code? He sort of vaguely remembered someone talking about how impressive it was that Garry managed the entire school’s security system but also found time to troubleshoot random pc stuff during the lunch breaks all on top of the weekly classes he did.
Garry stooped to pick up some pencils and Ed hurried up with the rest. “Thanks Mr. Garry.” Ed mumbled as Garry handed over the ones he’d picked up.
“You're seriously not looking so hot.” Garry prodded. “Want a hand down to the nurse?”
“Nah, I’m—”
Somewhat blankly, Ed stared down at the hand Garry offered. There was a large purple eye painted onto the center of it. Ok, weird place to have a tattoo. Though, when the eye suddenly blinked and Ed swore it looked straight at him Ed all but jerked away in surprise.
“Hmm,” Garry said somewhat sheepishly and he pulled back the hand to scratch the back of his head. “Wasn’t really expecting you to see that. Guess that confirms it though. Hey, on the bright side; get any paler and you could be a vamp!” And then Garry's other arm seemed to slowly snake around in some weird sort of motion before abruptly coming down over his eyes like he was shutting a curtain.
