On a planet Earth much like our own there was once an author who trademarked a generic term used to describe a little subgenre.
This was fine and considered a brilliant business decision! The author had become very popular and was a likable guy. His books were enjoyed by a number of people.
But then he started picking at other authors who used the term.
They didn’t know that he’d already trademarked it… because they’d been using it as a generic term for their subgenre for years.
He’d send them notices if they used the term in their titles, and would even get upset if they used it in their blurb.
Of course, this was considered an all around dick move.
The thing about fancy things like Trademark laws—they weren’t the best. And when people abuse them like this they need others to fight against them. To do that, things like money need to be used to hire upstanding lawyers.
Unfortunately, money was one thing the poor indie authors writing in that little subgenre didn’t have.

So, they decided that they’d had enough.
They threw up their K and D fingers at the author and decided on a new generic term.
One that was way more fun to use.
It was called System Armageddon.
And hey, wouldn’t you know it, it had the same acronym as the other less fun to use generic term.
Each of the authors started using System Armageddon with pride, knowing that the little author who put forth this change of terms would never pull such a dick move themselves.
She had no dick, after all.
But she’d grown and raised a pair of balls.
When the final abused story was renamed with the new term that was when genuine change happened to the world.
It made the world a better place.
And of course, things getting better always led to something bad happening...
