Chapter 1 - Ryan

Chapter 1 - Ryan

“… More than 300 years have passed since then. We, humans are in our golden moment right now. Technology are advancing at a tremendous rate. Now, we can fuse our technology with mana system in this world. And more importantly, our bearers are improving. Normal Mana-Beasts won’t stand a chance again them”

“Whoaaa….. Bearers sure are amazing, mom. I mean, they are the reason why we didn’t extinct back then, right?”

“Exactly, but to become a bearer, you have to undergo a trial in the swords of light. This is the reason why people who touched the swords back then suddenly vanished for a few month”

“That’s easy, mom. I will be the greatest bearer the world has ever seen, and then you and dad will be very proud of me”

“Haha sure, Ryan. Now you have to sleep. Bearers have to maintain their body. Especially you who are still on growth period. You don’t want to be a small bearer right?”

Seeing his mom making fun of his dream, Ryan pouted. Then, he quickly cover his face with his blanket and turn his body around. In just a few minute, he falls asleep.

Noir smiled and slowly stood up from her chair. She was careful not to wake his son up.

When she opened the door, she found her husband leaning on the wall. His face was quite serious.

“Noir, is Ryan already asleep?”

“Yes, Sieg. Is there anything you want to talk abut?”

“Actually it’s about him, our son is extraordinary. He is very smart despite his young age. Ever since he admired the bearers, he started to train everyday, and I heard from the librarian that Ryan often visit him. He reads all sort of book about adventures and bearers .it’s hard to believe that he is only 8 years old. I’m worried that…”

“That he will soon leave us and set on a journey to be a bearer? I know what you mean, but you too are a bearer. Ryan admire you very much, and if he know that you don’t want him to be a bearer he surely will be devastated, Sieg.”

“I know.. But because I am a bearer, I understand that this kind of thing is very dangerous. I nearly died when I took the test and my life have been filled with danger since then. It was my passion so I didn’t care much. But… Seeing my own son wanted to take the same dangerous path…”

“Then, the only thing we can do now is to make sure that Ryan will be ready to face whatever it is to pursue his dream, am I right? Ryan is the smartest kid I’ve ever seen. I’m sure he will manage. Let’s go to sleep, you have work tomorrow, right?” said Noir, smiling.

Seeing his wife’s smile, Sieg couldn’t argue more. He too believes that his son is brilliant. Maybe it was him who worry too much.

Sieg swored to himself that he will teach Ryan everything that he know. Making him ready to take the trial in the future.

...

“Ryan! Quick, pass it to me!”

Ryan quickly glanced at Fero, he noticed that Fero is currently free, but what Fero didn’t notice is that enemy defenders are on their way to surround him.

Ryan looks at the entire field and makes a quick decision. He gives his best pal a sign with his left hand, and pass the ball to him.

“Come on Dwayne, break through!”

The defenders are startled, they originally thought that Ryan would pass the ball to Fero. After a moment of confusion, they changed their direction.

But just when they turned around, the ball suddenly flew straight from Dwayne to Fero!

They reacted instantly, pursuing Fero who are now getting closer to the goal. But those few seconds of confusion already determined the match.

Fero easily kicked the ball into the goal, Fero was the most talented striker in the team. This fact alone made them think that Ryan would pass to Fero back then.

The ball stabbed directly into the goal, unstoppable. The crowd exploded!

“Hahaha we’ve been outwitted again by Ryan” said one of the defenders.

Dwayne, Fero, and Ryan celebrated and hugged each other. They were best friends, that’s why it wasn’t really hard for Ryan to make such play.

Ryan glanced at the crowds, he saw a girl smiled at him. He made a victory pose toward her and continued the game.

“Well, I have to admit that you are not doing bad, Ryan”

“Haha just say that I was cool back there, Rara”

“Humph! You’ll never be cool in my eyes. At least until you could beat me hahaha”

Ryan chuckled, he knew that despite her cute and cheerful appearances, this girl is ferocious when she fights. Ryan had to rely on tactics and traps to be able to barely stand a chance against her. In a fair sword fight, he never won against her.

“Haha whatever, let’s go home, it’s already near the time for my practice with dad. You have your own training too with Mr. Quartz, right?”

“Yea, my dad will kill me if I am late for practice, he’s all smile but he becomes scarier than beasts when he trains me” Rara frowns, she suddenly remembered the hellish training that she has to endure later.

“Ok then, let’s sprint toward the village! The loser has to treat the winner an ice cream!”

“Ah wait, Ryan! That’s cheating!”

Still, in the end, Rara won the race. Again.

...

“Ryan, remember that only by using tactics and preparations, one can fight against stronger opponents. But it’s  important to train your body, to be able to execute more complicated play.”

“Yes, Dad!”

“Okay, now you do basic body training for 3 hours. You have to remember the balance of the exercises. You can’t be too focused on one type of muscle. You have to train all your body equally!”

“Okay Dad, I understand” said Ryan, his eyes showing seriousness.

Sieg smiled, he walked away to a big tree. He sat there, watching his son carefully.

It has been nearly 4 years since that night. His son may not be a great talent, but he is talented enough to overwhelm kids in his age. Combined with his hardworking nature, no one could beat him in the village.

Except for Rara, though.

For these past 4 years. Sieg has been teaching Ryan everything he knew. He didn't make him drill on a particular weapon, instead he let him train his body first before choosing his weapon.

Sieg believes that only after one learn all the possibilities that one could choose the best option. And he teached Ryan all the tactics, traps, and situation plus the balanced body training to make him learn all the possibilities.

All for the sake of choosing the best weapon for him!

..

Ryan felt that his legs are losing strength, his arms too were shaking. 2 hours and 45 minutes was his limit. And this last 15 minutes felt like eternity.

He wanted to give up, but he knew that his father will never give him any training that exceed his capacity.

Sieg realized that his son is reaching his limit, he know that he has to help him overcome it. Because of that he smiled and said..

“Ryan! In a month you’ll be 12 years old. And that’s the time when you could choose your own weapon. If you can endure the training, then I’ll personally make whatever weapons you want!”

Ryan was startled for a moment, then he smiled. He forced his body to endure. He used every bit of power left in his body.

After a few minutes that felt like eternity, he finally succeed. He glanced at his father, smiling.

“You have to keep your promise, Dad!”

“Haha of course. But before that, you’ll have to decide what kind of weapon you will choose”

His Dad’s words made his smile fade.

“Uh oh, I forgot to decide what kind of weapon I will be using” he thought to himself.
