Rare Encounter

They went walking together, as Merlin had promised that he would buy him some bread to eat. Fortuitously, a vendor was stationed within the camp itself, a stroke of luck that Xian counted as a blessing. It was rather a coincidence or fate. Well, he should take it as it was granted and would be happy to indulge a food to last another day.

His stomach was growling incessantly, and he needed to address his hunger before he could think clearly. Eating would not only alleviate his discomfort but also provide the energy necessary to face the challenges of the following day. Or so as a normal human would be as usual.

Xian was famished, having not eaten a single meal in over a day. This deprivation was not just uncomfortable; it could also impair his growth and development in the long term. Their escape from danger had left him greatly weakened. The hurried flight to the camp had been exhausting, a tense feeling within their inner selves, leaving both he and Merlin with empty stomachs and wobbly legs.

With it, they still has ample money to last for a few days. It would be helpful if his hungered state would get satiated. And so they hurried to go to the goods vendor as fast as possible.

As he surveyed the camp, Xian noticed that it was populated with numerous class holders. He saw a Paladin stationed by the camp's entrance, a Swordsman diligently practicing his swordsmanship, a Cleric tending to the injured, and a Mage casting floating lights.

In his recollections, Xian remembered that obtaining a trainee badge from any of them and would grant him the status of a newbie class holder. Unfortunately, his inquiries were met with disdainful glares and unwelcoming attitudes. None of them offered him a badge or even a courteous response, only scowls and spitting on the ground.

"You want to become a Swordsman? Do you have any idea how hard I worked to earn this badge? Huh, kid?" This was the kind of dialogue Xian repeatedly encountered.

In the past, he had forcefully taken a badge from a warrior, thereby earning his warrior class. However, he was reluctant to use the same approach now. His race, known for its initial frailty, coupled with his current state of starvation, made him feel vulnerable. Even a child could potentially defeat him in a fight. His legs were shaky, and he was in no condition to engage in combat.

Realizing that he had run out of viable options, Xian reluctantly considered resorting to violence. However, just as he was about to challenge the Swordsman, an alarming commotion drew his attention. An elderly man was being brutally attacked by several individuals. They had beaten him severely and had also stabbed him with a dagger.

"Damn you, old man! Don’t steal our food, you beggar!" one of the assailants shouted. As the guards arrived, the attackers fled the scene. Xian rushed to the old man, tearing his shirt to use as a makeshift bandage for the stab wound on the man's stomach.

"It’s useless, child. I won’t survive beyond this," the old man rasped weakly.

"Be quiet, old man, and try to help yourself," Xian urged, applying pressure to the wound. "Cleric!" he shouted, hoping for some assistance.

"I will give you my badge. Take care and grow stronger," the old man said with his last breath. His eyes conveyed a mixture of pain and relief as he closed them for the final time. His hand, in its last moments of life, grasped something tightly.

Merlin offered a silent prayer. "May you rest in peace," he said solemnly. As Xian and Merlin stood up, Xian noticed something unusual. The badge the old man had clutched was a necromancer badge.

"Wait, wait, wait—Necromancer? This is the class of the notorious villain Dread!" Xian said, astonished.

"Indeed," Merlin confirmed. "The Necromancer class has the potential to align with villainous roles."

"This changes everything! With this class, I could stand toe-to-toe with demon lords and demon gods," Xian declared with fervor.

The Necromancer class offered substantial firepower, capable of summoning powerful entities and wielding dark magic. It was an exhilarating prospect.

He had received a rare and unique class. Now, he needed to purchase items that would enhance his class, particularly a Necromancer wand that has skills infused with it and perhaps a melee weapon with ice damage; having this as his favorite element. The ice damage could freeze opponents and slow their movements—an advantage he valued from his previous warrior days.

With his memories of being a warrior, Xian's combat skills would now be enhanced by his necromancer abilities. This combination promised a potent blend of melee and ranged attacks, summoning, and dark magic. Unlike most necromancers, who were often weak in direct combat, Xian's warrior memories would provide him with a significant edge, making him a formidable force in both large-scale battles and tactical engagements.

"This is a game-changer!" Xian announced, brimming with excitement. "I’ll use this new class to challenge the demon gods. Fighting fire with fire, or rather, darkness with darkness; Evil with Evil!"

With renewed determination, Xian set his sights on mastering his new class and preparing for the battles ahead. His journey from a starving, desperate recruit to a powerful Necromancer was just beginning, and he was ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
