Chapter 26: Twist and Turns

Chapter 26: Twist and Turns

As Emma smiled, the sun's last rays fell gently upon her through the leaves of the trees under which they were dining. Her skin seemed to glow, reflecting the sunlight and casting a soft, radiant aura around her. Amy stared at her speechlessly, feeling a sense of awe wash over her. Though she had always considered herself straight, she couldn't help but question her feelings at that moment.

The next day, as the two stood beside the RV, Emma motioned for Amy to take the wheel. Climbing into the driver's seat, Amy ran her hand affectionately over the steering wheel as Emma settled in beside her, her eyelids heavy with exhaustion from waking up early. Starting the engine, Amy glanced over at Emma. "Ready?" she asked.

Emma raised an eyebrow in confusion. "?" Why did Amy need to ask if she was ready? After all, Emma had assumed Amy knew the functions of the RV since she had given her the manual the day before.

Emma didn't understand the purpose of Amy's "Ready?" until they came out from the forest. Suddenly, Emma experienced a soul fly out, her surroundings blurring as she gazed out the window. With each sharp turn and twist of the road, Amy navigated the RV with alarming speed.

Sensing Emma's unease, Amy misinterpreted her expression as a sign of impatience. Thinking Emma believed she was driving too slowly, Amy stepped on the accelerator even harder. Emma's anxiety flew as she clung tightly to the side of the RV, fearing she might be shaken out of the vehicle.

Unable to contain her fear any longer, Emma finally spoke up. "Are you sure you passed your driver's license test?" she asked, her voice trembling with concern.

Hearing Emma's question, Amy accelerated, even more, her determination evident in her response. "OF COURSE!" she exclaimed confidently. However, their speed increased just as a vehicle appeared in their view. Emma screamed, "WATCH OUT!" But it was too late. Amy swerved sharply to the left, and the RV crashed into a tree.

Inside the vehicle—————

"Are you guys ready?" A man asked, his voice authoritative. "We should start."

"They only gave us two guns, boss," another man replied, a hint of frustration in his voice.

This small group had come from the Aries Base, with the first man serving as their leader. They had been tasked with clearing out zombies in the area, but the mission seemed daunting with only two guns for each person. Even though each member had supernatural powers, the number of zombies they predicted made the situation grim. They were all newbies with the power, it doesn't help that much.

"That's all she gave us?" the leader asked in surprise.

"Yes," came the reply.

"She wants us to die, doesn't she?" a girl chimed in, her voice filled with bitterness. The atmosphere in the vehicle turned somber.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Realizing that it was almost afternoon, the leader waved his hand, signaling for them to prepare to exit the vehicle. As they moved to do so, a girl screamed, "Something is coming towards us!"

The leader's brow furrowed in confusion. "Huh?"

The next second, they all turned around to look out the back window. A car was hurtling towards them at full speed, and before any of them could react, the car swerved to the side, narrowly avoiding a collision. It spun in a few circles before crashing into a tree and coming to a sudden stop.

Inside the RV —————

The second before hitting the tree, the two braced themselves, getting ready for the crash. Surprisingly, they weren't affected much by the collision. Emma shook her head in disbelief while Amy exclaimed excitedly, "That was awesome! Did you see how I dodged that tree? I'm gonna call it the Amy side drift!"

Emma, "......" She had always thought Amy was a quiet girl.

After making sure the area was clear of zombies, Emma and Amy cautiously stepped down from the RV. With the tree blocking Amy's exit from her side, they both came down from Emma's side, They walked down carefully, looking around cautiously.

As they walked down from the vehicle, they found themselves confronted by a tense standoff. Four guns were pointed directly at them, wielded by four people whose expressions were stern and alert. In the middle, stood a man with sharp eyes, his gaze piercing at them.

"Who let you two come here?" the man demanded, his gaze darting from one to the other with suspicion. "You almost hit us."

Emma froze for a moment, processing the accusation, before lifting her chin defiantly. "But we didn't, did we?" she retorted, her voice steady despite the tension in the air.

Beside her, Amy clasped her hands together, her eyes wide with recognition. "Mark! It's me, your friend from kindergarten. Remember me? I'm Amy!" She reached out and placed her arms around Emma, who flinched momentarily at the unexpected contact. "Don't worry, I know him," she reassured Emma, her voice soft.

Emma felt her lips tremble slightly, marveling sarcastically at the strength of the bond forged in kindergarten. But she kept her thoughts to herself.

The leader, Mark, raised an eyebrow at Amy's revelation. He did have a slight memory of a girl named Amy from his childhood, but he pushed aside any feelings. "What are you guys here for?" he demanded once more, his tone firm.

"To kill zombies," Emma replied, her response laced with a hint of exasperation. She couldn't help but roll her eyes slightly; after all, what else could they possibly be there for?

Amy, on the other hand, replied with a touch of sarcasm, "Oh well, you know, we kinda wanna die lately, so we're here to feed the zombies." She rolled her eyes dramatically as she spoke, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

The four others, holding their guns still, exchanged surprised glances at the two's bold response. They had never seen anyone speak or act in front of their boss in such a manner before.

Mark, recognizing the lack of hostility in Emma and Amy's actions, motioned for the four to lower their guns. It was clear that these two girls posed no threat. "We're also here to kill zombies. You can join us," he offered, before walking back to the vehicle to retrieve his other guns, leaving the four others to converse with Amy and Emma.

One of the men, named Xavier, watched Amy and Emma suspiciously. Then trail after Mark. Inside, Mark addressed Xavier, "You left something in here?"

"Boss, how can you just trust them like that?" Xavier complained. "What if they're using us?" Xavier didn't like thinking this way, but the tough world after the apocalypse made him careful about trusting others.

Mark paused for a moment, considering Xavier's words. "We're also going to use them for killing these zombies."
