Chapter 14: Last Chance

Chapter 14: Last Chance

Over the next few weeks, Emma stayed inside her safe area, taking care of her puppies with all her heart. She spent every free moment making sure her puppies were okay, always checking on them every other hour.

While taking care of her puppies, Emma kept working on strengthening the base, making it safer every day. As she added more things, the three in the safety measure went up to nine. As much as Emma tried to think, she couldn’t figure out what else she could do within her abilities, her place was already so safe.

Sitting beside the puppies, Emma watched their playful antics with a mix of joy and affection, marveling at their resilience. Some were already beginning to take their first small steps, their wobbly legs carrying them on exploratory adventures around the room. Each small movement filled Emma's heart with warmth.

As Emma and her puppies stay within the safety of their fortified base, the world outside spirals further into chaos and despair. When the outbreak started, the government tried hard to keep things under control. They sent soldiers to fight the zombies and made strict rules to keep people at home. They did this to try to stop the virus from spreading too much.

Yet, despite their best efforts, the tide of undead continued to grow, overwhelming the nation and plunging it into a state of utter devastation. With each passing day, the situation got worse, as more and more people gave in to the virus, joining the ranks of the undead and fueling the ever-expanding army of the living dead.

As fear and desperation gripped the population, society began to crumble under the weight of the apocalypse. The once-busy streets fell silent, now haunted by the shuffling footsteps of the undead. With resources dwindling and hope fading, people hid in their homes, venturing out only when necessary, risking their lives, and playing a dangerous game with death.

Amidst the chaos, the government's power weakened, and its efforts to maintain control were futile in the face of such overwhelming odds. As power lines were disintegrated and communication networks collapsed, the last hope of civilization slipped away, leaving humanity to fend for itself in a world consumed by darkness.

In the face of such hopelessness, many chose to embrace death as a final escape, their shattered spirits unable to bear the weight of the apocalypse. Suicide became a grimly common occurrence, a heartbreaking testament to the depth of despair that had filled the world.

Emma knew the last help from the government was to be this week. This was the last chance for civilians to escape the city, to flee the growing group of zombies getting closer and closer and going to a safe place made by the government. With each passing moment, the window of opportunity grew narrower.

Turning on her radio, Emma listened intently to the crackling static, the only lifeline connecting the outside world. Without electricity and the internet, radios became important for communication, standing out in a world turned upside down by the apocalypse.

Despite the government's assurances of future evacuations and additional opportunities for rescue, Emma knew this was likely the last chance for anyone to escape before the city was completely overrun by zombies.

Recalling her past life, Emma knew all too well the importance of seizing this fleeting opportunity. In her previous life, she had been the one to recognize the significance of evacuation and had convinced her family to seek refuge in the safety of the protective bases. Emma had collected supplies that ensured they lived comfortably in the base, but jealousy of her becoming popular in the base and insecurity of her betraying them led to her being kicked out of her family’s safety with no supplies. Emma still remembers that day.

The memory of her family's betrayal still burns bright within Emma's mind, fueling her determination to survive and thrive on her own in this new world. Though she wondered about their fate in her absence, without her, she wondered how long they could live on.

After a week of patient waiting following the government's announcement of the upcoming safety trucks, Emma finally armed herself for the journey ahead. Dressed in a sleek suit provided by the reward system, she felt a sense of reassurance knowing that it protected her against any potential zombie bites or scratches. Months of intense training had sculpted her body into a form that surpassed the limits of human capability, her body radiating strength and vitality.

With each step, Emma looks confident. Her suit fits her body well, showing off her curves. Her skin looks perfect and healthy because of the water. Not a single scar or blemish marred her complexion. Her hair cascaded in silky waves, shimmering in the sunlight as she emerged from her house and made her way to her RV.

As she drove through the empty streets, Emma kept her eyes on the horizon, knowing exactly where she was headed. With the government's involvement in the city fading away, Emma viewed this as her chance to seize what she needed. However, instead of heading towards the busy urban center, she veered towards the rural outskirts.

As she traveled, Emma came across some wandering zombies, but her powerful RV easily overpowered them, crushing their grotesque bodies beneath its wheels. With skillful driving, she swiftly navigated through the zombies, the force of her vehicle crushing their skulls under its wheels.

Arriving at a gated community nestled amidst the rolling countryside, Emma surveyed her surroundings with high interest.
