Part 67: Unease

The train station.

Ye Tian sat in a corner, pulling his hat low over his brow.

He was here to meet Liu Shun, who was planning to assassinate Li Ze. To avoid drawing suspicion, caution was essential.

He glanced at his watch.

"Time's up," he thought.

A deafening roar filled the air.

The train slowly rolled into the station.

Ye Tian stood up, his gaze scanning the crowd for Liu Shun’s figure.

Just then, a clamor of footsteps echoed through the terminal.

A large group of inspectors suddenly rushed into the station, sealing off the exits. They shouted through their megaphones, "Attention all passengers! Please do not leave the area. Due to an incident during the journey, we need to conduct an investigation!"

Ye Tian's brow furrowed. He quickly approached one of the inspectors and asked quietly, "Excuse me, what happened?"

"Well, something did happen," the inspector replied, annoyance creeping into his voice. "One of the rear carriages derailed for some unknown reason, and there was an explosion. We’re currently investigating. I heard there’s still someone trapped inside... Truly tragic..."

Upon hearing this, a sudden jolt of unease shot through Ye Tian.

He quickly pulled out his phone to call Liu Shun, but the line kept showing "unreachable."

His sense of dread deepened.

Yet, he tried to reassure himself: "It can't be that coincidental; maybe his phone is off or he just didn’t notice."

Ye Tian stepped aside, waiting impatiently.

“Bang!”

The train doors swung open.

Passengers, guided by the inspectors, lined up for checks and registration before being allowed to leave. As more and more people exited, the station grew increasingly empty.

Anxiousness clouded Ye Tian's face.

He kept praying for Liu Shun to emerge soon.

Meanwhile, the inspectors were conducting final verifications. One of them asked the train conductor, “Do we know the identity of the victim in the last carriage?”

The conductor nodded. “It’s someone with a rather unusual name—Liu Shun…”

The words hit Ye Tian like a thunderclap, sending his mind into a whirl.

Liu Shun… was dead?

No, this can't be happening!

At that moment, Ye Tian's overwhelming emotion wasn't anger or sorrow, but sheer, intense fear!

How could it be such a coincidence that an accident occurred? And Liu Shun was the only one to die—this was no accident; it was murder!

Ye Tian's face went pale.

A name surged uncontrollably in his mind.

Li Ze!

It had to be that guy. The assassination plan he thought was secret and foolproof might have been compromised long ago.

As this realization hit him, a cold sweat trickled down his forehead.

“Ye Tian?” a voice called from nearby.

Ye Tian’s pupils constricted, his muscles tensing instinctively. He turned sharply to find the inspector he had spoken to earlier standing beside him!

He fixed his gaze on the inspector, voice low and sharp: “How do you know my name?!”

The inspector hesitated for a moment before smiling. “You must have misheard. I called you 'sir.' Is your name similar to 'sir'?”

“Everyone else has left, and I noticed you were still here. Were you waiting for someone? According to our reports, the victim's name is Liu Shun, but we haven’t been able to contact his family… Are you a friend of his?”

“No, I don’t know him!”

Ye Tian responded like a cat with its tail stepped on, hastily denying it. “I have to go now!”

Without another word, Ye Tian hurriedly left the station.

Panic surged within him; he felt dangerously exposed. He needed to return to Liu's house for a semblance of safety.

He had made up his mind: he wouldn’t step outside until the medical exchange conference.

As long as he could seize an opportunity there and connect with influential figures, he wouldn’t have to fear Li Ze anymore!

Frustration boiled inside him.

Just wait—if he made a name for himself, he would make the Li family pay!
