Those Look Sharp (raw) Chapter 1 part 4

“I’m BAAAACK!!! Did you MISS me?”

The crowd is silent as the announcer’s joke falls flat. None of the contestants would be coming back.

“I SAAID, I’m BACK!!! It is POLITE to say…”

“WELCOME BACK PRESTON” the crowd booms.

“Better, NOW we will be seeing some RAW entertainment. I know everyone just LOVES spikes, so the guys in PRODUCTION were THINKING. And they came up with SOMETHING I just know EVERYONE will enjoy.”

The pit starts changing shape, becoming longer and thinner, pushing the remaining 20 people into one end of the pit. Seven contestants stagger trying to get up. Pushing into each other and looking dazed. Zooming in would show glazed over eyes, and if one could hear them, it sounded like they were saying hi to a loved one.

The pit stops shifting, and to everyone it was clear what was transpiring. Spikes kept stabbing out of walls, making slicing and grinding noises as they retracted and extended. The pit had become a race track, and deep holes edged the track, filled with more metal skewers.

“THIS, is the SPIKE RUN. CONTESTANTS will be running as FAST as they CAN around the track, and those that FALL behind will find that they CAN’T RUN ANYMORE. GOOOD luck contestants. Oh, and the betting window is closed. If you missed your chance, too bad.”

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

The contestants all begin to run, thirteen survivors pulling quickly ahead of the seven with murky eyes.

“OH, it SEEMS some PEOPLE aren’t feeling too WELL. Oh goody. They fell behind. CRUSH THEM.”

The spikes close on the seven people lagging behind, and when they opened, the spikes are covered in blood, pulping the people into a liquid that stayed on the walls and floor. The next section of walls *shick* closed, and then the next and the next, getting closer to the group of frantically running people.

Halfway around the track only two people have died, having either fallen from exhaustion, or unable to run quick enough.

“OH, this is BORING. I KNOW it’s a game of AGILITY, but what FUN would it be if the contestants JUST continued RUNNING. SO, we have placed some TRAPS, to SPICE it up a LITTLE.”

The floor opens beneath someone near the middle of the group of runners, and he falls through, screaming as he drops onto spears beneath the ground.

“LIKE THAT!!!” the announcer lets out a cackle. “THANK YOU for your SERVICE!!!”

As the runners drop into more traps, the audience lets out shocked ooh’s and ahhh’s. Filling the quiet room with ambient sounds. Screaming the only noise breaking the monotonous sounds.

“LOOK at THAT, SOME people SURVIVED. SEEE, if you have STRENGTH, INTELLIGENCE, and AGILITY, you can SURVIVE in the HARSH world. JUST LIKE these CONTESTANTS!!! OH, and LOOK who WON!!! MAC!!!”

Finally, the contestants get through the finish line to the crowd's cheers, looking exhausted as they disappear from the pit.

“THANK YOU for COMING everyone, and don’t forget to DONATE to the CAUSE!!!”

Everyone starts to leave, and as the last of the audience crosses through the doors the cleaners begin to disappear as well, leaving the spotless stadium deserted.
