Sylvia burst awake her alarm bursting with noise. She smacked her alarm shutting it off. She stared into space before forcing herself up and checking her phone for anything interesting! She skimmed through social media checking how many followers she had gained. None. She checked her messages. Empty. She stood up on slightly shaky legs before yawning.
She followed her daily morning routine, take a shower, dry out, and apply a touch of makeup. She went downstairs, only to hear the daily news. Today marks the 10th year since Catharsis day! The world still remembers when 39% of the population suddenly gained superpowers. While chaos followed closely behind, the citizens of the United States of America were able to pull through it and become stronger as a result! Today is a day for rejoicing and celebration! Have a wonderful Catharsis Day! The news shut off as her mother scolded her father on being too obsessed with a "machine."
Everyone else was already up and eating breakfast. Her mother said good morning before reminding her about the exam she had today. "Did you study dear?" "Of course I did mom."
"Just making sure." Her mother handed her a plate with eggs and bacon. She took her plate sitting down on the table as her father said good morning before shoving a mouthful of bacon down his gullet. She wolfed down her breakfast as she went upstairs to grab her belongings.
Sylvia cursed under her breath resting her hand on the desk. Today just had to be the exam. It was almost as if the teachers didn't care about Catharsis Day even though they learned about it every year. She scanned the worn-out classroom looking for a victim whose exam paper she could copy. "Sylvia"! Her teacher, Mr. Olds said. "What are you looking at?" "Nothing Mr. olds," Sylvia replied. She secretly cursed at him with all the curse words she knew inside her mind.
Once the bell rang. Her teacher collected her paper and when he reached her passed it over with a poker face. The teacher quickly scanned it in front of her and told her, "Detention after class, Sylvia." People began laughing around her. Her face turned bright red and she stormed out of the classroom. Today was becoming a very bad day for her.
She located her clique of friends before remarking to them how Mr. Olds's hairline had seemingly receded further. Her friends laughed as they talked about each of their mornings. "Oh my god, is that even a human." One of her friends Taylor said, directing it towards the school freak, Chelsey. They began insulting her hairstyle and clothes before the bell rang again and she ran to class.
Understanding Supers, the most boring and monotonous class there was. It was a mandatory class in order for students to be educated on the subject of supers. The teacher began droning on about the signs of someone being a super. Sylvia began staring stared into space thinking about why Kelsey has backstabbed her before she was abruptly brought back to reality." Sylvia! Sylvia!" Her US teacher shrieked. " how many classifications of supers are there. She scanned her mind searching for the answer before saying, "7." "Correct, and what are the rules for classification?"
Dozens of seconds that felt like hours to Sylvia went by as she stood frozen, not knowing the answer and afraid of the consequences of not knowing. "It seems that Sylvia is having a mental breakdown, anyone else?"

A hand shot up and began replying," Using Dr, Plateco's classification system, Class one is very weak and can cause minor injuries. Class two can cause potentially fatal injuries, Class three supers are able to kill several humans or have a minor effect on the environment. Class four's have the potential to destroy several city blocks. Class five can destroy half a medium-sized city at a minimum or potentially more. Class six supers have the power to easily destroy a major city!"
Vicky, the teacher's pet blurted out. "Good, at least someone has been paying attention in my class." The teacher began lecturing them on the significance of Catharsis day before being cut short by the bell. she slowly went to her next class, economics, another mind-numbing class that was mandatory and also at the opposite end of the campus.
She breathed heavily as she made it inside the classroom. She sat down on her desk waiting for the bell to ring so the class could start. The bell rang and people began filing into the classroom. The teacher, Mrs. Regan began informing them about the stock market, wonderful.
Once economics finished she felt very stressed out. The economics teacher has said that they needed to each make a project about the stock market and at least three ways that it could crash.
She suddenly felt thirsty. She went over to the water fountain drinking copious amounts of water that did nothing to quench her thirst. Sylvia sat down, her head ringing and some sort of noise in the background. She heard her friends asking if she was okay. She wasn't.
She began wrapping her arms around herself as the dizziness began overtaking her. All of a sudden, the headache stopped.
Then the ground around her erupted. BOOM! The whole school shook as a huge cocoon made out of dirt and minerals burst from the school, huge rocks and debris falling off of it. Students ran out of the school trying to escape the chaos behind but most were crushed by the falling rocks.
Sylvia felt nothing, she was nothing. She opened her eyes and saw darkness. She was at peace, there was only darkness nothing more. Sylvia closed her eyes and sighed in content.

Several minutes later in the outside world, the local superhero team, the Legion, arrived. The falling rocks began to slow down in mid-air and stopped entirely as the superhero Psychic used his powers.
Astra's astral projection began surveying the rubble with her astral projection and radioing coordinates back to the leader Aurora. The leader of the superheroes Aurora made the gravity of rubble above buried students into nonexistence to rescue them
The other member, Electron began disabling rogue wires, sucking the electricity out into him as Mako hoisted up the portions of the rubble that were covering the wires.
An hour later, the superhero team managed to rescue those that they could and turned to face the final challenge, the giant cocoon.
Astra went into scout before radioing back, "It's a girl." Aurora began flipping the top and bottom of the cocoon's gravity against each other and they began breaking apart.

Sylvia could see a crack of light from the outside. It grew increasingly bigger until someone came through. The person looked like someone she knew. The person got closer and closer until she could see clearly who it was.
It was Mako from the Los Angeles superhero team. If he was here that meant he was chasing someone. Her. The darkness rumbled around her as she panicked. What appeared to be boulders were flung at him by the darkness yet he smashed through all of them.
She moved away from him trying to flee but before she could run, THUNK!
