The next morning, 3 figures could be seen surrounding a door. The plate [Allein’s office] were placed in the middle.
They were the 3 newbies Allein was supposed to train. After yesterday's experience, the trio has some time to organize themself. They were embarrassed after losing their way to the library, having to bother many people to find their way around. Who would have known there were 3 different libraries in this place.
It was especially embarrassing when people looked at them with sympathy like they were abandoned dogs on the road. Allein’s behavior is quite well known around the place, evident by their reactions.
Thankfully, some of the seniors have given them advice on how to deal with the guy. The solution wasn’t quite what they expected, it was sweets. The amount of time he spends with them will be equal to how much sweets he has on hand at that moment and as long as you give him sweets, he’ll spare some time for them.
Loren looked at the short cake in his hand, his heart was conflicted. His family wasn’t particularly rich and buying this cake has cost him half a month of payment in his old job. If not for the others persuading him, he would have never bought such a fancy thing for a person he doesn’t know.
In fact, all 3 of them were very doubtful of Allein’s capabilities. The other seniors they met assured them of his work efficiency, telling them that he is the cream of the crop in this industry.
They had to do a double check before realizing that it wasn’t a joke. That shameless person is the cream of the crop? Seriously?
The sounds of footsteps interrupt their thoughts. They all nodded their heads and were ready to block his escape path at any time. However the person coming by wasn’t Allein but a gorgeous lady.
Her body was well-proportioned coupled with the long luscious black hair that gave off a mature atmosphere. Her face was sharp and despite having no makeup on, it still contained an irresistible charm to them. What was most special was her dark blue eyes, they were like an ocean drowning those who look at them.
As they noticed her, so did she. Her eyebrow was raised slightly, showing her interest in the unfamiliar figures.
“You’re the newbies?” She asked.
“Yes we are.” Nanako answered. As the only female in the group, she wasn’t as entranced by the lady’s beauty.
The lady gazes at the cakes in their hands and gives an understanding nod.
“Hah... that guy never changes. Forget about that dumb kid, I haven’t introduced myself yet did I? My name is Suzuha, your senior.”
“My name is Jack, nice to meet you senior!”
“...my name is Loren. N-nice to meet you..”
“I am Nanako! Nice to meet you, senpai!”
Suzuha gives them a thumbs up.
“Good! Good! Greetings should be like this. You guys are much better than that monkey!”
“What monkey? Please get out of my way, old hag.” A deep voice suddenly spoke up.
To their surprise, Allein arrived behind Suzuha without anyone noticing. His words were like magic, making veins appear on Suzuha's forehead. She turned to face him with a forced smile.
“Well well if it isn’t our big man child!” She said coldly, empathizing on the ‘child’ part.
Allein frown didn’t change and he once again spoke up in his monotone voice.
“Old hag, you are bothering the workplace. I’m afraid I’ll have to report you to the Order committee.”
“Go ahead! I’m sure they will listen to you Mr slothful.”
“Please old hag, don’t be so mad. I’m just trying to do my job here.”
“What job do you have besides filling yourself with sweets! Fatass, glutton!
“Old hag-“
“Old hag this, old hag that! Stop saying that word! I’m younger than you alright! Will you die if you call me anything else!”
Hearing someone shouting, the nearby employees were gathering around the scene, hoping to see a show.
“Look, they are at it again.”
“Jeez, they should have gotten a room already.”
“A room with that guy? For what, eating sweets?”
Allein listened to the people joking around him and thought seriously. His face soon brightens up as if he was just enlightened.
“Grandm-“
“I’M NOT!”
Suzuha's face was dyed red from the anger and embarrassment, reminding one of a ripened tomato.

Loren, Jack and Nanako stare at Suzuha in shock, the calm and cool lady from before is now gone. Her energetic and slightly childish act was a lot more natural than the model woman from before.
Thud.
The people around were at a loss of words staring at the closed door in front of them. Suzuha checks her back again to make sure no one was behind her, he has really gone in and closed the door. After letting out a helpless sigh, she encouraged the 3 to talk with Allein.
“Go in. Since he is in the office that means he’ll do his job. Probably.”
The 3 said their goodbyes and thanks before walking into Allein’s office. It was surprisingly empty with little to no decorations. There was his work table and a guest table, a few cabinets of random stuff and a giant fridge.
Jack wanted to ask something but was stopped by Allein, his hand pointing to the cake in their hand. The 3 all take turns to put the cake on the table like a tribe member offering food to their god.
Allein opens a box and starts eating the cake, not paying attention to anyone in the room.
“So? Why are you here.” He asked.
Jack couldn’t take it anymore. He shouted loudly at Allein who was still stuffing himself.
“We are here because of you! Aren’t you supposed to be training us?! All you have done is avoid us and extort us for cakes!”
Allein stopped eating. His glance at the trio with indifference.
“Is this your thoughts as well?”
Loren didn’t dare to speak up to Allein but he didn’t deny it. Nanako didn’t say anything either, expressing agreement through the heavy silence.
“Disappointing.” Allein sighed.
“Let me ask you a question. Have you ever bothered to think about what we’ll do in this job? Tall guy goes first.”
“Wha, my name is-“
“Unnecessary. Just answer my question.”
Jack was frustrated. However he had no way to talk back to Allein and answered meekly.
“Isn’t this job about protecting the citizens?”
Allein didn’t deny or confirm the answer, only looking at the next person.
“Short guy, what about you?”
“To destroy and contain dangerous entities.” He spoke resolutely with a hint of anger.
“Smart girl.”
“To deal with supernatural cases.”
Allein listens to their opinions quietly. After the trio finished speaking, Allein put another slice of cake in his mouth before knocking the table slightly.
“Wrong, all wrong. Our job is simple, to be watchdogs for the higher ups.” He pointed his finger to the sky and took another slice.
“Whatever they say, we’ll do. They bring us the problems and we’ll solve them. It’s as simple as that.”
It took them a minute to fully understand what Allein had just said. Yet before they could muster out any disagreement, Allein knocked the table again, cutting them off.
“This is the fundamental understanding you should have about the job, whether you agree or not doesn’t matter to me. Now tell me about your reason for applying for this job.”
Loren didn’t accept his word, he shouted at Allein.
“How can you say-!”
“Stop.”
His voice was quiet yet powerful, completely overwhelming the trio.
“I’m not here to debate with you, I’m here to make sure that you lots don’t go into this job like a bunch of headless chickens. This job is not like any other job out there, incompetent people won’t be tolerated.”
Loren weakley hangs his head down, quietly biting his lips. Jack couldn’t bear to see the argument get any more heated and answered Allein.
“I want to join to help increase the public safety and make people feel more secured.”
Jack was feeling confident about his answer. He truly believed his cause when applying for the job and this belief hasn’t diminished one bit. Sadly, Allein shook his head immediately.
“I’ll tell you a fact. Most of what you hear about this job is false except one thing, the mortality rate. About 3 out of 5 newbies will die in their first year and most won’t make it pass the 30s. The one who is more than 40s is less than a hundred. But there is a truth that is hidden from this statistic: those who work in this job believing they are doing a ‘noble’ cause are 80% more likely to die than those who don’t. With such a goal I would recommend you go find another job or work in a different division.”
Jack was shocked and angry. Regardless of whether it’s true or not, Allein was outright denying his goal, one he has set since he was in high school. He couldn’t believe it, such a simple and necessary goal of goodwill is considered a bad thing here.
Not just him but Loren and Nanako were in their own turmoil by Allein words. They were expecting this job to be more bizarre than any other, yet they couldn’t imagine this. The trio looked at the man in front of them with a bit of fear, he seemed to lack something very crucial from a normal person.
Allein waited for the youngsters to calm down. They weren’t the first to act like this and they won’t be the last. The sweet strawberry flavor melts in his mouth, he hoped they would take longer to think as this cake was more delicious than he expected.
After two minutes had passed, Loren stood up feeling determined. Allein could sense his change and determination and wondered what this guy wanted.
“Sir, I don’t have a goal like helping people out. All I want is to get revenge for my family!”
Unexpectedly to them, Allein also shook his head at Loren's goal. He said slowly, empathizing his every words.
“Revenge? Revenge on what? You better not be so stupid to think you could do anything to the supernatural entities, I don’t want to see a death so stupid be blamed on me. A selfish goal is good, yes but an unreachable goal is stupid. All you’re going to do is burn yourself to death. I would recommend you to forget about the whole ordeal and go live peacefully somewhere else far from the place of trauma. I won’t let you take the job if you insist on this stupid goal.”
Allein’s speech enraged Loren yet what he said is also the truth, making Loren feel lost and conflicted. Was he supposed to just let it go, forget about his family and live a happy life? He couldn’t allow himself to do that.
Allein gaze laid on the last person. She seemed to be the most sensible out of the bunch.
“I want to make money.” Nanako said.
For the first time since meeting Allein, the trio saw him smile slightly.
“Good, an acceptable goal. We have plenty of money here. Still, are you ready to die for that money?”
Hearing the word ‘die’ being uttered out so easily, Nanako flinched. She hesitated but eventually still nodded her head, life without money isn’t life anyway.
Allein was happy to find a decently satisfactory answer, perhaps this batch will have some potential after all.
