The Supernatural Safety Division
‘In our current society, how many people are yearning for a good paying job? A lot of course. It doesn’t matter if it’s dangerous or not, there’ll always be people willing to apply.’
That was what Allein thought when applying for his job.
“What?! You are applying for the Supernatural safety division?” His friend asked in shock.
“Don’t do it Allein! There are better jobs out there to apply for!” Said his family.
Their concerns are reasonable. The public’s knowledge of supernatural entities was scarce. The most they know is from rumors on the street or the scary stories parents often used to scare their kids. In short, it was a mysterious job laced with danger.
Allein himself didn’t know much about what he was applying for, nor did he care.
“Well, the pay is good.” Is how he has replied to all their worries.
Yes, the pay is very good. For the first year, one month of work is equal to almost 70 thousand usd and after a year it goes up to 120 thousand per month. Not to mention the requirements weren’t that demanding, only demanding basic education and a healthy body. As for the drawbacks?
“You can’t! They said that the mortality rate is more than 60%!” His parents begged.
Indeed for such a job, the drawbacks are huge as well. In the end, no one successfully persuaded him out of the job.
That was a story from 20 years ago. Allein is now 39, a few strands of grey hair have already hidden themselves on his head. Still, he was very young to be acting bitter and old.
As the head of the supernatural safety division 3, and the only member in the team, Allein was leisurely sitting in a newly opened coffee shop. He silently complained about the bitter taste of his cappuccino. His desires to try new things diminish each time he takes a sip. Unable to bear the taste, Allein added another pack of sugar from the table, mixing it carefully.
If one were to see him now surely they would mistaken him for an office worker. Allein has an ordinary face and neatly combed hair, a style commonly seen by office workers. He wore a slightly worn out suit and a cheap tie, an old coffee stain was present on the side which seemingly goes unnoticed by him. The blue jumpsuit was hidden behind his black suit, he was too lazy to change out of. He was tall, reaching 6’1 feet.
He was quite good looking and if he smiled no one would think he was a single middle age man. Regretfully, Allein's face was stuck in a permanent frown, a magnificent feature that makes him seem much older than he is.
His break time was soon interrupted by a call. ‘A call is never a good sign.’ Allein lamented.

“Hello?”
“Mr Allein, today is the day the newbies arrive.”
Ah, so that was it. Allein regretted picking the phone up, he could have saved himself the hassle if he didn’t. However, it would be a lie to say he wasn’t interested. It has been more than 5 years since his team got a new face after all. He even thought the higher ups have forgotten about him, something he would appreciate.
“Tell me the location.”
“Building B section A, room 303 sir.”
“Got it.”
Allein put down his phone and looked at his coffee cup perplexed. The coffee’s light brown color was diluted due to the amount of sugar he had added.
Now, should he finish this cup?

In a medium size office, two men and a girl were nervously sitting on a sofa. Their faces showed hesitation and slight fear, while also remaining expectant. They were evidently uncomfortable, trying to ease themselves from the company of others.
Hearing the incoming footsteps, they tenses up again, looking out the door carefully as if a devil was coming. They have heard rumors about division 3, how unlucky of them to have actually been assigned here!
Allein stopped at the door, his eyes gaze through the room. His line of sight didn’t stop at the 3 but rather their surroundings.
The tallest guy was nervous but confident, his posture was straight and his eyes stared straight at Allein. He didn’t bring anything and his shirt was slightly loose. He was probably around 25.
The smaller guy wore a suit just like Allein. The suit looks brand new. His gaze was at Allein shoes, not daring to stare straight at him. He brought a book about Supernatural entities and occurrences, a book Allein has seen many times before. Newbies love the book but unfortunately for them, it wasn’t very accurate. He probably just graduated university.
The last girl was a bit different from the other 2. She was still nervous but her eyes were fixedly staring at the gun in his pocket. She brought a small bag, on her hand was a book from the SSD(Supernatural safety division) library. She looks the youngest of the bunch.
While the 3 were staring nervously at him, Allein took a big sip from the matcha cup in his hand, relishing the sweet taste in his mouth. None of them spoke anything and only the sound of him drinking was present in the room. After a while, the tall guy couldn’t wait anymore and spoke up.
“Excuse me, are you the leader of team 3?”
Allein didn’t answer and continued sucking from his straw. He slurped the last drop of matcha from the cup before letting out a relaxed burp. All 3 of them seemed to have something to say but Allein stopped them with his hand.
“You three were so quiet I thought you were mute.”
The 3 lost any tension they previously had and stared at Allein, baffled.
“So you are the newbies? No need for introductions, from now on you are tall guy, short guy and smart girl.”
The 3 felt like they had mistakenly walked into a circus instead of a military organization. How could this guy be so nonchalant?
“Your job is simple. Go to the library and ask for some book recommendations. Study them carefully.”
Allein didn’t give them another glance before walking out of the door. His job here was done.
Inside the office were 3 lost souls who couldn’t process what had happened. Only after a whole minute did they realize that Allein has actually left and it doesn’t seem like he was coming back.
Did they take the wrong job?
