Chapter 62
Stupid Bird part two
“My lovely, courageous daughter. It's time to wake up.” A really nice voice said to Emily.
She frowned and rolled over. She was sad the music has stopped but she really wanted to sleep. She had been up all night playing on the computer. She ….
Emily sat up abruptly. She had not been playing video games all night. She was not a kid anymore. Her mother died a long time ago.
“Shhh.” The voice gently said to her.
Emily turned to the voice and looked at the lady who was holding her. The woman was really beautiful with light brown curly hair and a soft smile. She had a purple toga on that had a red and yellow lining on it. The lady gently brushed the hair out of Emily’s eyes.
“You’re not my mother,” Emily told the woman sadly. For some strange reason, she really wanted the woman to be her mother. There was just something amazing about the woman.
The woman in purple laughed. Her head fell back as she laughed and she seemed to laugh from her whole body. “Oh child, you are now. Between that evil man and the power that resides in you, I am now and forever your mother.”
“What?” Emily asked confused. Shaking her head she looked around. She was in some type of jungle that was filled with the most amazing smells. Closing her eyes and forgetting the amazing woman beside her she took a deep breath and tried to categorize everything she could smell. She smelled an amazing combination of cinnamon and the smell of a newborn baby.
When she opened her eyes she found the woman watching her with a kind smile on her face. “He was wrong you know.” The woman told Emily.
“Hmm.?” Emily responded looking into the woman's amazing blue/green eyes.
“The human who could taste lies. He said you have an exotic healing powers. You do not. He was wrong.” The kind woman said brushing Emily’s hair out if her eyes again.
“No, he’s not,” Emily said shaking her head no. “My powers heal ...healed me and change me to protect against future damage. I guess that’s in the past thought. I had my power taken from me.”

“Well no.” The woman replied hugging Emily. Emily let her and fell into the woman’s arms. “No one can take your powers. The man turned your powers off but he did not take them. I doubt that the power that resides in you would stay turned off for very long. It’s a very stubborn thing. In fact, your powers are working right now. They have just figured out how to… copy is the wrong word but it’s the best word that I know to use. Your powers have learned how to copy what I do. That means that you are now my daughter. My first child. How exciting.”
“Oh!” The woman said suddenly. She looked off into the distance and smiled. “It’s time for us to go back. I was keeping you safe as you kept me safe but it is time to go back. I need to head home. I have been away from my home for far too long. You need to find this evil man who finds joy in other people's sadness and stop him. You have been fighting this man ever since you became a bloodied soldier. He makes plans and you wreck them like the whirlwind you are, my daughter.”
“But,” Emily said not sure what she was feeling.
The woman smiled and gently disengaged Emily and held her at arm's length. “Trust in yourself. You are my daughter now. You have responsibilities. Know that I love you, my daughter.” The Woman said and gently push Emily away.
Emily blinked as she passed through the ground and continued to fall. She was not scared, however. She raised her arms as she watched the Woman grow smaller. The Woman never stopped smiling. Emily felt strangely content.
Emily sighed and opened her eyes. She looked up at the clear blue sky and sighed again. Like a magic picture puzzle the longer she stared into the sky the more she saw of the geometric shapes. She learned a few things. The biggest thing she noticed was that the geometric shapes had a slight green tint to them. She also noticed a plane flying high above the geometric shapes. Not feeling like getting up she gave the plane a wave before letting her hand fall back onto her stomach.
It was the odd bird call that got her to finally get her lazy butt off the ground. She turned her head towards the noise as she sat up and saw a beautiful purple bird that had streaks of bright red and yellow running through it. It was a really big bird that looked like a cross between a crane and a peacock.
“So that’s what you look like,” Emily said smiling at finally able to spot the elusive bird that has been driving her crazy since she got back from Afghanistan.
The bird honked at her again then took a few running steps before it took to the air. Emily watched it fly upwards with a smile. The bird circled above Emily once before flying upwards again. Emily was still smiling when there was a loud crack of thunder and the bird was gone.
“What?” Emily asked stunned.
She looked around after she stopped looking for the bird. She was not sure what happened whether the bird had been hit by lightning on a clear day with no clouds or the bird had somehow flew faster than the speed of sound. Laughing at herself for her crazy imagination she really took in her surroundings. She was laying in a crater surrounded by rubble. She also realized that she was naked.
Cursing she stood up with her hands covering her nakedness making sure no one could see her in all of her glory. “Wonder would be laughing up a storm right now.” She thought to herself as she looked around for a place to hide.
