Ch: 59 the bunker

The plan was simple. Emily and the Major would walk up with the two Privates from RDF. Emily was only to be an escort and the Major would do all the talking. No one was happy with the Major taking all the risks but he pulled rank. He promised to hide behind Emily if anything happened.

The Major handed his rifle to Emily and took her handgun from her. He did it silently behind the two RDF privates back. He gave Emily a look and she nodded back. He would pretend to be a super while she would pretend to be a normal soldier. If the situations went bad they would switch. Emily had collected the guns when she had knocked the two privates out and the Major handed the guns back but he did take their ammo before he did.

The Major took the lead while the two RDF privates followed him. Emily followed in the rear. They walked through the forest and passed where Emily had taken Private Kyo out. Emily could see the Private tense up but kept walking. Emily smiled at the Privates back. She liked the feisty super.

It wasn’t long before they crossed an old grass road that had trees hiding it. The road led right up to a small building that was fenced off. The building looked old and the fence was rusted. Emily was confused though. The Major had said that the bunker could hold over seven-thousand people easily but the building was so small that there was no way that was possible. Then she remembered that there was supposed to be around two-hundred Republic of South Korea (ROK) soldiers in there.

Kyo stopped in front of the gate. “Hey, the Americans are here. Someone, please come out to talk to them.” She yelled at the top of her lungs. Emily flinched and looked around in-case any enemies heard the Private. Kyo crossed her arms and looked towards the bunker. Emily looked around at the trees surrounding the buildings. She spotted four cameras that faced outward looking out into the woods. There was no way they hadn't seen them come walking up. The door to the building opened up and a lieutenant walked out.

Once the Major talked to the Lieutenant he called the rest of the OD in. The small building hid a smooth walkway downwards that slowly spiraled around itself until it reached the bottom floor. The bottom floor was empty except for a huge metal door that had a small door build in it. The Lieutenant led them through the small door and into the main bunker.

Kyo was a little off on her estimate on how many people there were in the bunker. Inside, the bunker was filled with both civilians and military personnel. The civilian's age ranged from a baby in its mother’s arms to an old man stooped over a cane. No one looked happy at seeing Emily’s OD though.

The bunker it turns out was made in the seventies during the height of the cold war. It was designed to house twenty thousand troops for ten years including the countries leadership. According to Kyo It was built by both the Koreans and the Americans in case the North ever invaded again. It was designed by an American Technomage less than five years ago with the Koreans doing all the construction work.

Kyo gave them a tour as the Major and his command staff left to talk to the Korean military leaders. She first showed them where all the barracks rooms were. The barracks rooms took up three floors under the staging room. Kyo showed Emily where she would be staying. While she opened the door to her new home Kyo showed the men where they would be staying. The barracks room was an open bay barracks with a hundred bunk beds in each barracks. It looked pretty standard to Emily with the bathroom was at the back of the barracks. She did miss that she didn’t have her own room but she told herself to make do.

Once everyone had got settled Kyo showed them where the kitchen was and told them that while there was not much choice for what they had to make they did have more than enough food to last them for years. Below the barracks, Kyo showed them the bunkers biggest surprise. A two-floor indoor farm with the first floor growing crops and the second floor there was livestock running around.

“Whoa!” Emily said when Kyo opened the door to the Farms. She looked around at the cows and pigs in their various pens as they all walked out into the underground farms. In the distance, Emily could hear chickens calling out.

“I was surprised as well when I first saw this place as well,” Kyo said smiling while she was looking around at all the animals. “I never knew a place like this exists.”

“Super Science sure can do some amazing things,” Yrawl said walking past them to get closer to the cows.

“This place is crazy,” Muller said chuckling.

The last place Kyo showed them was the gym. It was designed like the Fort Rita hospital’s gym at Super School with some really high tech gym equipment alongside some standard stuff like free weights and aerobic workout equipment. Emily ran her fingers along with a leg press machine. It was just like the one where she discovered her true powers. Before that, she and the testing staff at the hospital thought she was just mostly human normal with some self-healing abilities. She wondered if she could use the gym to increase her strength again just like she had back then.

Emily headed back to the barracks to get a shower for the first time since the craziness happened. She found some soap and got a towel from the closet. She took a really long Hollywood shower that lasted nearly twenty minutes. The water at her feet slowly turned from muddy brown to clean as she scrubbed her body with the bar of soap. Feeling so much better she cleaned herself off.

She took her uniform to the sink and using the same bar of soap she washed her clothes. Then hung them up in the shower room to dry. Kyo came by to tell her that First Sergeant Hook wanted to see her. With a sigh, Emily put the still wet clothes back on and followed Kyo out the door.

She found the First Sergeant at the chow hall sitting at a table eating. He looked up at her and frowned at her wet clothes. “You eat yet?” He asked her.

“No First Sergeant,” Emily said shaking her head.

“Grabbed something to eat. The squad is heading out after this to scout out Daegu. G. is leading this patrol so listen to her. No one-woman army thing got me? When she tells you to retreat your retreat. Do you understand?” Hook asked her.

“First Sergeant, is this about the Super at the strip club? I’m not sure what I was supposed to do?” Emily asked confused.

“You should have listened to my orders and run. We already lost too many people and we sure as hell can not afford to lose you to some random enemy encounter. Killing that super had no strategic value. We earned nothing from his death. All it did was tell the enemy that there is someone in-country that is strong enough to kill a main type super. If you retreated as I asked you then I would have you lure him away from us then meet up later when you lost him. That would’ve told the enemy that yes there was a super in the area but not a main type super.” Hook told her looking at her in the eye.

Emily felt her cheeks get warm and she looked down. Hook signed. “Look Never, you strong. You are probably the strongest super I have ever seen but you seem to think that you have to do everything. I know the Rangers didn’t teach you to go in alone. In Afghanistan you got lucky. If I was your sergeant back then I would have nipped this superhero crap in the bud. I would have chewed your butt so bad you that it would have taken days for you to be able to sit down.”

Emily tried to hide the smile but it flashed across her face for a few seconds before disappearing. “We are in a bad way right now. We were just informed on why the General ordered all US forces to surrender in Korea. Somehow the Taewang has figured out a way to create Super Soldiers. His entire army is made up of Super Soldiers now. They swept through the forces at the DMZ and Seoul is less than two hours. Most of the Divisions up there were slaughtered.” Hook said looking down. “Most of our fighting force dead in less than two hours.”

Emily sat down shocked. “An army made of supers. That’s impossible. It's a myth. People have been chasing that dream forever. The Nazis had been the worst at trying to convert normal people into supers but no one has been able to do it.” Emily thought to herself stunned.

“That can’t be true First Sergeant,” Emily told him.

“It’s true. The Korean Lieutenant has videos of the attack at the DMV. The entire army just walked across the DMV. It was a slaughter. He had a video of an artillery round hitting a platoon and everyone just picked themselves up and kept going. Which is why I need you to follow G’s orders and not go after some random super. You are one of our best weapons but you are just one person. You can’t be everywhere at once. If you die then the odds of us wined drop pretty bad.”
