Interlude:

Sams sister Jade

When I finally left school, it was extremely late. It would be about time for dinner when I got home. I was looking forward to hearing about my brother's abilities. I was so surprised when I saw the status screen pop up in front of him. Of course, I couldn't see what it said since he hadn't allowed me to but, it was a clear sign that he had awakened an ability. I have had my ability since berth. Because of that, I have always felt bad for my brother because it seemed that our parents treated me better because of it. They certainly love him very much. He never seemed to care much and, he never seemed to resent me for my gift. I know he had been getting a little worried because he was getting close to the age where it is almost unheard of to awaken an ability past twenty. But now, he didn't have to worry about that because he had awakened, and, from what I could tell, he seemed to have awakened an exemplary ability. Surprisingly he gave off a presence that was even stronger than the hero that was in the room at the time.

When I reached our front door, I could immediately tell something was wrong. There was worried shouting coming from inside.

[James, what are we supposed to do, he hasn't come home yet and, he isn't picking up his phone. It's been hours since he was supposed to be home .]

[I dont know Amelia, maybe his phone died and he decided to wait and go home with Jade, or he went out with some friends.]

I opened the door and saw my parents standing in our sitting room. Both of them looked apprehensive looks on their faces. They both turned to look over at me when I opened the door. As soon as I closed the door, my mother rushed over and almost shouted at me.

[Jade, Hunny, I'm so glad your back safe, but have you seen your brother. He was supposed to be back hours ago. He even said he would help me because I was exceptionally behind, But he never returned. I even checked the security cameras and, he hasn't been here since he left this morning. We also got a call from the school saying that there had been a villain attack that carried over to your school and that your brother had gotten hurt.]

I was extremely confused because he said he would head straight home when my brother left school at the end of the day. My mom was almost shaking me in her panic and worry. I grabbed her shoulders and said.[ Mom ... Mom, I dont know what happened when he left the school. He said he would head straight home ad told me not to work so hard. That was the last time I saw him. But mom, I think we should call the police. Something terrible could have happened.]

I posed for a second, then continued.[ About the attack at school and Sam getting hurt. The Villain Koan was going on a rampage and being chased by heroes when she landed in the courtyard by the shelter. For some reason, that caused him to awaken an ability which caused him to pass out.]

In the middle of calling the police, both my parents looked at me in surprise, and for a moment, elation flashed across their faces before the worries came back. My mother grabbed my hand and smiled while saying.

[ that is wonderful that he awakened an ability. Do you know what kind?]

I shook my head and said.[ No, he said he wanted to tell us all at the same time he seemed excited to tell us.]

but just then, the police picked up.[ 911, what's your emergency?]

My father answered back.[ Hi, yes, this is James Woods and, I think my son has gone missing.]

[Ok, Mr. Woods, can you tell me what happened?]

[ Yes uh, he was supposed to be home from school at two o clock but, he hasn't come home and, his phone says it is out of range and we cant get in touch with him. Our daughter saw him leave school and, he had said he would head straight home.]

[Ok, Mr. Woods, can you tell me your son's name his age and give me the route that he usually takes home .]

My father gave them the information and told them he was awakened today and then hung up the phone.

I walked over to my mom with tears in my eyes and said. [ He will be okay, mom. He has to be. He will come home safe.]

We spent the rest of the night huddled together, sitting in our sitting room, half asleep while waiting for news and hoping everything was fine. At around three in the morning, a cop knocked on our door and, my father answered the door.

[ Are you, Mr. Woods?]

My father nodded and invited him in, then asked. [ please tell me you have some good news.]

The cop's face fell. Seeing that, mom started to ball. While trying to hold back tears and failing, he asked.[ Please tell me he not dead?]

The cop shook his head and handed my father a folder while saying. [ We are not sure. We found the first trace while looking at the camera along his route to get home. We saw him head home mostly normal until....] He hesitated for a moment before going on. [ We saw the villain Koan grab him and drug him with something, it seemed to be some sleeping drug. But after that, she grabbed him and flew off with him.]

I heard that my brother had been taken by one of the evilest supervillains and is known to be a mail hatter. I fell to my knees with my hands at my eyes while I openly balled my eyes out.

You could see the sadness in the cop's eyes as he looked at my father, who was barely standing and was also crying and, said.[ we tracked his phone to a part of town a good ways away from where he was taken and found it destroyed. We contacted the Travelers guild and, they have their strongest group already out looking for Koan to try to bring her in and save your boy.]

After hearing this me and my parents mood improved a bit but, the cop left and, we decided to go try to get some sleep but, none of us went much. The following day we all called into the places we had to be to say that we wouldn't be able to come in and, we explained the reason.

We didn't hear any new news until three days later. The same cop came by to tell us that they found one of Koan's lairs and that they thought Sam was there and that they were going in to try to get him tonight.
