My life had been normal up until yesterday. I had gone to school, and the day had been mostly typical, but a little after lunch, the city's supervillain warning system that indicated one of the strongest villains of all time known as Koan was heading in my direction school. After hearing this, my class went into chaos, and it took a minute for the teacher to get everyone's attention.
[Class... Class, we need to head to the shelter!]
My class and the rest of the school started to head towards the shelter, where we would take refuge until the villain had left. My class had gotten outside to one of the courtyards where the shelter was. The group in front of us was already at the shelter when the villain, Koan herself, landed a little bit in front of us. She was clad in a black coat and skirt with an orange and white fox tail and ears.
She looked around and sneered at all of us. We were all frozen in place from fear but, the next moment, an almost ripple of power emanated out from her and, everyone ran in panic. But, for some reason, I was rooted to the spot, and pain started to emanate from my abdomen and in my head as I began to glow. As my vision started to go black, I saw a surprise flash across Koan's face and, then she gave me this look that chilled me to the bone. She began to advance towards me, but then someone screamed her name, and she turned to look in the direction the sound came from and decided it was better to leave. But before I fully blacked out, she looked at me again and mothed, ' I will be seeing you later.
I awoke suddenly sometime later in the shelter's infirmary. I looked franticly around for Koan, but upon not seeing her, I relaxed. There were three other people in the room with me. Two were adults and, one was the school nurse and, the other was, from what I could tell was a superhero and, I sort of recognized her but, I couldn't place her face. The third person in the room was my little sister. I looked into her happy face before she almost tackled me. My sister and I were only two years apart from each other and, she was in her sophomore year of high school and, I was a senior. As she hugged me, I realized how little we had seen each other since last year she had been recruited by the student council and, even though it was barely two months into the school year, she was super busy with her duties, so she always left home earlier for school and always got home late. You see, my sister was born with a minor ability that improved her brain functions, so she had an almost perfect memory and could think faster than almost all ordinary people. Her ability wouldn't allow her to go into the superhero industry but, it made her super smart, so she was really good at school.
The powers in this world worked vary differently for everyone who got one. But about a third of the world population awoke an ability sometime in their life. Different things affected the chances of awakening, such as if your parents also had powers. If your parents had abilities, it usually slightly affected how your power would work, like, for instance, my parents. My mother had slight psychic powers, which improved her mind like my sister and allowed her to move small to medium-sized objects around and, if you were not protecting your mind slightly, she could kind of read your mind a little. Where my father has increased strength and speed. Neither of them was strong enough to be a superhero, but their powers made their life easier.

This affected my sister and me slightly by just being born from them. Off the bat, without abilities, we were somewhat smarter, stronger, and faster, it was hardly noticeable, but it just made our bodies better. But in my sister's case, she awakened a power similar to our moms but without the psychic part.
When you awaken, you get this status screen that displays your stats and your powers and, each status screen is different and tailored to the person. But every awakened had one.
I came out of my thoughts when my sister put me at arm's length and started to speak.
[ I'm so glad your ok when I saw them bring you in on a gurney, I thought the worst had happened.]
She started to cry again but quickly stopped, wiped her tears away, and spoke again.[ What happened the kids in your class said Koan landed right in front of you guys and, then you started to scream in pain and, you started to glow. Did she do something to you?]
I didn't remember screaming, but the pain was clear in my head and, the face on Koan's face when it started was one of the most horrifying things I had ever seen. [I'm Ok, I think, but....] I cut off when I noticed a tiny blue dot in the corner of my vision and when I focused on it, a screen popped up in my vision.
There was a collective gasp from the three other people in the room when the screen popped up, but I just stared at it in wonder.

Your affinities dictate which schools of magic you can learn. The percentages of the affinities dictate how fast you can learn spells from those schools and how much manna it will cost to activate those spells. The higher the percentage, the better.

I closed my status and, I thought about creating manna changes and immediately knew how to do it and realized it would take some time. I looked up to see the shocked looks on the women's faces and smiled.
[Well, that was awesome, I guess we know why I passed out.]
They just nodded then, my sister tackled me again and said [ I'm so happy for you, big bro mom and dad will be so happy.]
