Waking up to a bright light coming from a TV mounted on the wall. Tian blinked a few times to adjust his gaze before he looked around, noting the banner of a shield on the wall.
‘The crisis center… Looks like it really was an outbreak.’ Tian thought as his previous suspicions had been confirmed.
“An A rank portal break!? In the middle of the city? I can’t believe that it’s truly a miracle that only a single person was injured during the entire disaster. Luckily Maximillion was there to distract the A- rank savage beast long enough for backup to arrive. Although it is a bit strange that only a single beast left the portal this time…”
Tian’s attention was drawn to the TV as it continued, he watched for only a few moments before someone called out to him.
“I see you’re awake.” Tian hearing the voice of an older gentleman, only now noticing the doctor to his side. His eyes were mismatched, one being gold and the other a pale blue. “You’re very lucky, you know that? If that ranker hadn’t gotten there in time.” The middle-aged doctor said while he handed him a tablet with a digital form to sign.
Tian nodded and began reading the document before setting it down and looking at the doctor.
“Ah, I’d like to say my thanks to the person that saved me.” Tian said, looking at the doctor seriously.
“Haha, as would a lot of people, it seems it was a very high ranked person who only summoned a golem to deal with a majority of the savage beasts that escaped the portal.” The doctor took the tablet back and continued “People at those ranks don’t really consider a portal break to be worth the trouble of dealing with these days.” The doctor sighed however Tian felt something was wrong as he thought back to what the doctor said.
“I suppose you’re right.” Tian nodded, committing to memory the sounds of rubble he had heard and the shape of a golem taking place before he blacked out. “And the other ranker? What was his name?” Tian didn’t forget the first one ranker that had been stalling before he arrived.
“Ah yes, he actually came by not too long ago. He wanted to say his thanks to you for risking your life as well, as well as scold you to not do such things again… And I believe his name was Dominic.” The doctor laughed as he spoke about the man. However, Tian had only just confirmed his suspicion.
“Now, about your injuries...” The doctor turned to him and started going over everything that had happened, asking him many questions, and going over his physical condition before nodding to himself and giving Tian a mysterious look. “It appears… You may have awakened.”
Tians eyes widened as his entire train of thought had suddenly been derailed, the doctors’ words were simply too shocking for him to continue. His hands shook a bit as he silently whispered the word that he had thought of hundreds of times in the past, the single word that plagued his thoughts as he desperately tried to recover himself in the past.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
‘Status’
As those words left his lips a transparent screen appeared before him like a hallucination or phantasm only visible to himself.
Tian Gias
Physical: C- | Mental: B | Magic: E-
Class: Summoner (Compounding)
Skills: Golemancy Novice (F): Allows the creation of basic golems made of stone or earth.
Tian was confused as he stared at the status screen, however it was not for the same reason that most would be. In fact, he was intimately familiar with this screen. Most newly awakened would be amazed and not know anything about this.
‘This… Was not my class.’ Tian thought to himself as he stared at the screen.
“So how is it?” The doctor asked eagerly. The glint in his eye caused Tian to feel lethargic.
“Haha,” Tian laughed uncomfortably “It seems you were wrong.” He did his best to appear disappointed. He still felt like he may have shown discomfort on his face.
“Mm, I see… That’s alright, I’m surprised you lived that attack without having awakened…” The doctor looked at him suspiciously, almost glaring now.
“Ahh, right!” Tian reached into his pocket and pulled out the destroyed pendant. “This may have saved me; a ranker gave it to me in the past.”
The doctor took the pendant and inspected it for a moment before handing it back, his gaze had softened a bit. “I guess I was mistaken!” he laughed it off and nodded at the explanation.
Tian felt his back covered in cold sweat as he breathed a sigh of relief watching the doctor walk out of the room. He had gotten lucky that he had still held onto the pendant even after using it, otherwise there would be no way the doctor would even slightly buy that story.
‘I need to leave.’ Tian knew how dangerous these places were, he had severe déjà vu when the doctor had mentioned the story about a mysterious ‘High Rank’. It was a story meant to play off a newly awakened or ignorant ranker.
Thinking about it made Tian angry as he clenched his fist around the metal medical bedframe. Luckily, he had noted the name the TV had stated before ‘Maximillion’ that was not even close to the name the doctor had told him.
As he looked around the room it became increasingly evident that this was not the crisis center and his guess had been correct. The room was very run down, it clearly had not been cleaned in quite a while the room reeked of dust and blood.
‘He’s probably going to try and silence me now.’ Tian began creating a plan in his head as he waited for the doctor to come back. Standing from the bed, limping toward the wall, and placing his hand on it. The gritty feeling wall causing dust to fly into the air obscuring his vision slightly.
‘Skill activated.’
As the doctor opened the door again a bright light assaulted him. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the bright light, completely opposite the expectation of the previously dark room he had left.
The first thing he noticed was the massive hole in the wall, however he also quickly noticed that his ‘subject’ had escaped much to his displeasure.
‘You should be thankful I saved your life’ The doctor made a complex expression as he walked further into the room to inspect the damage. Preparing to follow after his experiment.
He didn’t mind taking his time, as he wanted to memorize the mana. He knew he could take his time as he was a true B rank. Many top guilds had begged him to join them in the past, as B rank was nothing to scoff at.
As he stepped out of the hole in the wall and took a glance around he felt the air shift and his hair stood on end, he felt something was wrong as the light outside suddenly got shaded.
