Chapter 39 (An outsider's point of view)

Mimi could not help but look at the Seventh princess of the Empire as she lay there in her bicorn, head slung to the side with an appearance of complete peace, only propped to sit up by the clearly uncomfortable Aki as he held the reins of the mount from behind the sleeping royal.

It would be easy to get through her own escort, the woman was clearly uncomfortable with being held from behind, nevermind the sheer aura that the princess' currently awakening bloodline was emitting, making it rather hard to focus even for her, every sensation sending tingling feelings through her body.

The real problem was her new 'master'.

After he enchanted her little shack to better insulate them from the remains of the music, she thought he would want to sleep with her, finally let his guard down. And he did, after putting her in a torpor with a lullaby and a foot massage, lightly spooning her in the bed as he collapsed even faster than her.

Despite all her training and attempts to resist however, his magic caught up to her and now she was incredibly well rested, like she hadn't been in years. That and her general cleanness were enough to indicate that indeed they had not had relations yesterday.

This treatment and the way he was attempting to safeguard her from a contract were rather contradictory behavior however, and after the revelation that his own contract was not working so well, she couldn't help but wonder if this was a shout for help or even a mad bid for revenge.

Still, there was little chance that she could assassinate the unconscious royal even if she died trying, so long as he was there. Both his mana, attitude, and now his assigned level of threat, all pointed towards him being far above her level even while injured, sans her looking for an opportunity to take him down before even learning his actual identity.

And indeed, despite his outwards appearance of distaste and lacking concentration, through the whole trip he was always the first to detect hostiles and the one to kill them off with one light beam each, including the cult ambush.

She was not particularly bothered by their deaths, they served their purpose and probably got to meet their chosen god. There had never been a chance for her to choose one, but she didn't particularly think there would be one to accept her.

So with such a restriction on her movements that, with an unconscious royal and a thoroughly intimated escort team by her side that she managed to teleport into the imperial capital' upper class district. Normally this wouldn't be worth much as she had been seen by so many enemy agents and personnel, but to someone of her specialty, even this much was plenty.

Yet they kept going forward. Reaching the palace and going in as Aki and his not so good mood as he carried the princess, now in a medical hold against his chest, was incredibly easy, the spirit shouting the guards to open up as he called them up by name.

Before they got the princess to the infirmary, no one even dared stop them after Aki glared at them, his expression not too dissimilar to her own when she wasn't forcing it, but certainly carrying a lot more discontent and disdain then she usually had. In turn, people fumed and glared at the both of them.

If this was how he felt about this place in general however, she could see why he would so eagerly seek help in getting rid of it on the mere chance that she could do something.

He had, after all, demonstrated that his contract did not stop him from omitting information, so as long as she did not make things too overt…

"Aki, what is this about an assassin besides my unconscious daughter?" Immediately she felt a heavy hand and aura grasp onto her, stopping her from moving.

Seeing that it was Aki restraining her, she wondered at betrayal for a moment, then she felt the clashing aura of the man that'd just come into the room as the spirit gave instructions to the staff, and easily noted that no one else present seemed to be having as easy a time not shivering or prostrating in fear.

There was little doubt in her mind that this was the Demon King despite having only ever heard stories about his prowess instead of any real dossier on his person. She was not someone expected to ever be able to come anywhere near him after all.

"Your majesty, I believe I informed your psionic about the circumstances already, there is no need for all of this." Aki readily responded, his hand guiding her frozen self to bow at the waist with him and to stand again immediately after, head held high in a clear sign of disrespect.

One that she was impressed was responded only with a frown from the golden man in front of them before the auras present dissipated around her. She did not need to fake the shivering fear she displayed right then.

Both of these people were at or even above the level of the Herald of Peace, the strongest person she had ever seen. Indeed, a direct assassination attempt would be useless without an infinitude of preparations.

"I see that you have grown stronger again. Make no mistake however, you will pay if this goes badly." Threatened the Demon King. Taking a deep breath, his expression became regal and neutral again before he made his question. "Now, why did you never instruct my daughter if you could clearly do it?"

"I thought it wouldn't work." Aki shrugged, continuing despite the clear distaste for his answer from the entire room sans her. "It makes no sense to me how someone who hates herself so much to the point of constant self sabotage would be able to awaken a Demonic Bloodline of Lust. Rather, I am now going to have to meet each of the princes and princesses to check if their education over such an important part of their heritage is not lacking as well. It'd be best to bring whoever instructed them for judgment as well, as despite the chance of simple stupidity being the cause of the situation, sabotage cannot be ignored."

Despite being unable to fathom what a royal's education would look like, even Mimi couldn't help but look at Aki as he uttered his treasonous words. She could not imagine anyone would cast suspicion at all the seven consort queens in front of the Demon King himself, but there he was.

"Are you insinuating one of my wives is a traitor?" Asked the Demon King, his aura and irritation leaking.

"...Oh, so the repeating nomenclature related to Sin was a family or clan thing? Honestly, I thought it was a title instead. Let me guess, seven grand dukes and seven brides? Yeah, no, I'm accusing your people of forgetting and misinterpreting several points of cultural, militaristic and biological significance." Aki noted in confusion, expression growing dim then frowning in distaste and exasperation as he kept going, confusing those present and doing little to placate the Demon King. "This gets worse by the second, but I'm starting to see a pattern here, so the two of us should probably have a private conversation, preferably with several more loyal officials and nobles with a good head on their shoulders present."

A chance for her to kill them off? Unlikely, but she couldn't help but feel like this was important. The way Aki kept insulting the royal family and dodged any possible punishment by offering completely necessary insight and knowledge was honestly impressive. It also made any attempts at predicting him come out as jagged outlines that likely didn’t hold much truth to it, what with how he constantly demonstrated how little she actually knew, both about him and what knowledge he may have to think and act in such ways.

There was also the question of whether he liked acting like a normal teen despite her own mediocrity in acting and his likely considerable age, a question that had unexpectedly come to be of importance as it was no longer the strangest possibility about the spirit, their alone time the only moments the man had apparently allowed himself to relax so far, but at this point her sample size was just too small for a deduction to be considered factual.

Luckily, it seemed like she would be included in this discussion, and be it the possible power from understanding her bloodline better or the innate benefits of better comprehending the thought process of someone with so much power over her, 'Mimi' would be sure to not squander the opportunity.
