Chapter 306

CHAPTER 306

If he had to be hardworking, he'd rather be dead.

Nothing beat eating, drinking, and having fun every day.

If he had to be like that poker-faced Carlisle, with his day consisting of either work or training, what joy would be left in this life?

Sebastian smiled and ignored him, saying to Grayson instead, "Have a good look at the agreement when you get home. I stand by my words. Even though I've planned everything beforehand, I still hope that you can steer clear of Ann. Don't get involved with her anymore, much less marry her. As for whether you'll listen to my advice or not… Think about it properly when you go back."

Grayson nodded and said in a low voice, "I understand, Sebastian. I'll head home now, alright?"

He would usually stay behind for dinner, but today, he wasn't in the mood.

Sebastian nodded. "Go ahead."

With Sebastian's permission, Grayson left the Hart Family and returned to his place.

Once he was back home, he took the agreement and sat on the couch. His eyes stared straight ahead at a random spot, and he didn't move for a long while.

He… wanted to see Ann and desperately longed for her to the point of going crazy.

He just wanted to check on her and see if anyone was bullying her or if she was crying in despair. If he

stood up for her, would Ann's sentence be lighter?

The more he thought about it, the more he suffered. He suddenly stood up and walked to the door. He placed his hand on the handle, but he hesitated.

No, he wouldn't do anything anymore.

No one could change his eldest brother's decision.

Even if Grayson stood up for her, he wouldn't be able to change anything.

His father hated anyone who bent the law for selfish reasons. If his father knew that he was looking for people to beg for mercy on Ann's behalf, his father would get so furious and disappointed in him. In fact, Grayson might even be chased out of the Hart Family.

His father wasn't in the best of health, and he didn't want his father to get worked up because of him.

Grayson slowly removed his hand from the handle and walked back to the couch, sitting down dejectedly.

Half an hour later, he could no longer endure the suffering in his heart. In the end, he still left home and went to the police station.

He could choose not to plead for a lighter sentence for Ann based on his connections, but he had to visit her at the very least. He wanted her to know that not everyone had abandoned her. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

She still had him.

As long as she earnestly repented, he would still acknowledge her as family.

He would also take good care of Ann once she was released.

When that happened, even though her status wouldn't be as noble as it used to be, at least he could ensure that she wouldn't have to worry about survival.

As soon as Grayson arrived at the police station and stated his reasons, he was told that Ann wasn't allowed to meet anyone other than her lawyer. If he wanted to see Ann, he would have to come again tomorrow.

The next day, he was already waiting outside the police station even before it was time to start work.

He waited for an entire day, and even when the police got off work, he still didn't manage to see her. He dared not get angry, nor did he dare force his way in. He could only leave in anxiety and helplessness.

On the third day, he made his way there early in the morning again.

His efforts were finally rewarded, for he finally got to see Ann this time.

However, in a mere two days, Ann had turned especially haggard. She looked so sickly that when Grayson saw Ann, he almost couldn't recognize her at first glance.

The Ann he knew before was always glamorous with exquisite makeup on, and she was a stunning beauty in his mind.

However, the current Ann was handcuffed and dressed in prison clothes, looking wilted and dull in the face. There were circles under her eyes, and her originally exquisite and beautiful face now looked extremely common. She was at most nice-looking.

If it weren't for her features which matched those in his memory, he almost thought that the police got her mixed up with someone else and he was brought to another woman entirely.

When Ann saw him, it was as if she had seen her savior. Her tears immediately gushed out. "Grayson, you're here to save me, right? I knew that you wouldn't abandon me! Grayson, hurry up and get me out. Take me away, please…"

Grayson felt extremely awkward. "I'm sorry, Miss Ann…"

"You're sorry?" Ann's eyes widened. "What do you mean by that, Grayson? Aren't you here to bring me out? Grayson, it's too terrifying here, so please hurry up and get me out, okay?"

"I'm sorry, Miss Ann, I can't do that…" Grayson's heart was both aching and wracked with guilt. "Miss Ann, you did something wrong, so you have to be punished for your crimes. I cannot go against the law to save you, and I don't have the power to save you either. I can't do it… I'm sorry, Miss Ann…"

"No, that can't be…" Ann shook her head desperately. "Grayson, go and beg Mr. Philip for mercy. He loves you all the most, and he'll definitely listen to everything you say! Grayson, please save me. Please get rid of my records. I cannot have any criminal records on me, and I cannot stay here either. If other people know of this, my life will be ruined. Please!"

She covered her face with her hands and sobbed silently.

Grayson was sympathetic and pitied her. He didn't agree with how his father and eldest brother did things, and he felt that they were too cruel for sending Ann to the detention center. However, there was nothing he could do.

If he were the one being hurt, he could forgive her and let bygones be bygones.

However, his eldest brother had been hurt, not him.

He couldn't speak for Sebastian, and he couldn't insist that Ann didn't cause his eldest brother any harm. He couldn't use every way possible to beg his eldest brother to let Ann off either.

He couldn't do it, and he couldn't give Ann the answer she wanted.

"I'm sorry, Miss Ann. I can't do those things you speak of." He was both heart-broken and guilty, his voice light and quick. "But don't worry, Miss Ann. When you get out of there, I won't abandon you! I can take some time off and bring you on a vacation to relax! You like islands, don't you? I'll go anywhere you like with you, alright?"

"No, I don't want that!" Ann wept, breaking down. She shook her head and slapped her palm against the table forcefully. "I don't want a vacation or to relax, I want to get out of here! This place is terrible, the rooms are small and dark, and the air is dirty and reeks of something! The people I live with smell terrible and make me gag… I cannot take this, I really can't!"

She wept while saying, "Grayson, please, I'm begging you. Please help to get me out. As long as you're willing to rescue me, I'll agree to anything you say!"

As long as you're willing to rescue me, I'll agree to anything you say…

This sentence sent a chill down Grayson's spine. As long as he was willing to rescue Ann, she would agree to anything he said…

When she said those words, did she not mean it, or was she hinting at something else?

He couldn't help but admit that even though he still liked Ann, Sebastian and Lucas' words had left marks on his heart. He couldn't devote himself fully to Ann without any considerations like before.

Something had latched onto his heart.

Grayson no longer took Ann's words at face value; he would think them over and analyze them. He would ruminate on them. When she said those words, was it an accident, or was she planning something in her mind?

As long as he was willing to rescue Ann, she would agree to anything he said… If one of his requests were to marry her, would she agree right away?

Or perhaps, without a wedding or a marriage certificate, as long as he was willing to rescue her, would she submit herself to him and toss her name aside?
