Getting used to my new roommate

Getting used to my new roommate

Honestly, out of all the things in the world! Being blamed for stealing over a billion yen?! Guess I can go ahead and check that one off the bucket list! This is why I don't go outside! My life is over! This is definitely going on my record! My college is going to throw me to the dogs!

I'll admit I did feel a bump in my pockets back then but I assumed it was my phone and wallet but NOPE! It's a freaking mini console that costs more than my tuition!

I was stuck in the same room, one of the police officers departing to get some other suspect. I feel bad for them, even though I'm suffering the same fate, I get how frustrated they must feel…

"Hi, I'm Jerry, what's your name?" The police officer started with a smile, his hands on the desk as he waited for my response. I look up at him hesitantly before speaking.

"Taida-" I responded, a bit hesitant in my words

"Lastname?" He asked

"Haru-" I corrected,

"Ok, Mr.Haru, why don't you go ahead and tell me what happened?" Jerry, looking at him more I realized he was really young, probably turned into an officer recently. He had weirdly colored hair, a pastel pink that peaked through his cap, and marine blue eyes.

"Well- um…" I murmured, trying to come up with something that didn't involve me talking about "her" situation-

"No need to be nervous, we're just here to help," The officer reassured, taking off his hat and badge, and fitting them on the seat next to him.

"Here, talk to me as you would a nosy stranger, okay?" he smiled. Though I'd probably shut the door in front of a nosy neighbor, or my neighbors in general, I appreciate the sentiment-

"I was just talking to one of the streamers before they went with the others after the lights turned on, I really didn't do much after that and the live event-" I muttered, looking up to him in hopes he saw that I was telling the truth, but he just sighed and rested his face on his hands.

"And who is this streamer exactly?" He pondered, seemingly done with this conversation already.

"UntitledGhost, sir, she's an underground streamer though, not many know of her–" by not many meaning only me-

"I see," Jerry leaned back in his chair, his eyes closed as if he was thinking about something, "UntitledGhost, you say…"

"Coming in," The voice of the other officer was heard on the other side, causing me to look up, my eyes widened when I saw…

"Wait- you're the other person they were on about?" I asked, staring at UntitledGhost who just came in with a defeated look to her. Her face turned beet red when she realized it was me.

"Why'd it have to be you of all people!?" She practically squealed from embarrassment, I could hardly contain my laughter, having to turn away in my chair! This was hilarious! Ha, serves you right!

….

..

.

If she's here, and she was in my alibi, doesn't that mean she was caught carrying something too?! Which makes me even more guilty!! Things suddenly don't seem as funny anymore–

"Wait, what are you doing here?!" I snapped the minute I realized, startling her at my sudden shift in volume.

"Why are you shouting at mee?!" She practically sobbed her voice shaky from the sudden pressure. The two officers looked at each other with exasperated glances before turning to me.

"Okay you two, settle down," the older officer spoke up, his dark green eyes staring at us intently before he finally spoke up.

"Tell us exactly what happened–"

The two of us stopped our bickering giving him a soft nod before we pleaded our cases, our story more or less the same cause why wouldn't it be? Both of the officers look rather puzzled, Jerry turning to the other before whispering in his ear. "Tom what do we do now-?"

Tom groaned softly, "Look it's been a long day, and I want to go home, so–"

"Yeah, but we can't just let them go-" Jerry argued, seeing Tom scratch his head in frustration.

"I'll pull some strings to get them house arrested or something," He muttered back before turning to us with a stern look on his face.

"Ok, you two will be put on house arrest until further notice! Failure to comply will result in you eating nothing but rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Do I make myself clear?"

We both nodded attentively, the officer soon turning to Jerry, "I'll leave the paperwork to you…"

"What?! Again?!" Jerry tried to argue but his words fell on deaf ears as the door was shut behind him. He groaned in frustration. "This is the fifth time this month–"

"Ok… I'll need to get a view things from you, firstly ill need to know the address you'll be staying at," He informed waiting for an answer.

"Well- I'm from out of town so I can't go anywhere…" UntitledGhost murmured, looking down at her hands as she twiddled her thumbs.

"Well, that means you need to live with Mr. Haru for the time being" Jerry noted, looking towards me as he waited for my response, "If there's nowhere you can stay that means you have to go to jail, there's no avoiding it."

I bit my nail from nervousness, though I didn't want to go there it might be my only option, I looked up at Jerry hesitance laced within my voice.

"Well, there is one place" I mentioned, letting out a soft sigh of reluctance.

A woman in her 40s was cooking dinner, letting out a soft hum to herself as she worked, though her momentum was soon ruined by a knock on the door.

"Coming, coming," She said as she got out of the kitchen, opening the door to see me, UntitledGhost, and Jerry standing there. She looked confused, which is entirely fair, her son did visit after years of not talking at the hands of the police after all-

"Heey Mom," I smiled, giving her an awkward wave.

"Missed me?"

So— let's recap shall we?

Two gamer dudes, cool dudes mind you, think it would be fun to attend the reopening of GameStop to hopefully meet our favorite streamers and vtubers, though after the main event my disappointment spiraled when I realized that my streamer is a big fraud! But hey, at least i can go home to my college dorm and hopefully drool over Astrafae's 2035 vintage model that probably cost thousands right now, right? WHOOPS! Wrong! Oh so wrong!

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

I get framed for something I didn't do along with a certain someone and now im STUCK WITH HER!

"Today has to be the worst day ever." I muttered to myself, sulking over the Nikujaga my mom made for dinner, meanwhile she's over there stuffing her face- does nothing not bother her?!

"My, it's been ages since I had a full table like this," My mom said with a lax sound to her voice, her hand reached up to cup her cheek with smile bright enough to beam the table. "When I asked when you'd visit you told me 'When i have no choice'. Didn't expect it to be so soon."

"I was planning on that being after I graduate–" I muttered to myself, slowly chewing in annoyance.

"Taida, stop slouching-" My mother snapped at me in a slow monotoned voice to which I promptly fixed. She then turned to Ghost, a smile on her face. "So what's your name, dear?"

She looked up to my mom, wide eyed as she stuffed her face. "Maiya," I looked to her with a look of intrigue, she never publicly displayed her name in her streams before— but then again even if she did it probably wouldn't make a difference.

"Your last name?" My mom pondered looking a bit confused to why she just said her first.

"O-oh! It's Okane-" She muttered, a soft blush crossing her face, I would snicker right now if that didn't mean me catching a stray from my mom like she tends to do.

"Ah! Okane. Didn't expect a cute girl like yourself to wanna date my good-for-nothing son," And a stray I caught anyways, I sunk into my chair when my mom said that both of my palms were against my face! My mom was smiling from ear to ear, Okawa looking at me with a smug look before turning to my mother to deliver the oh so unfortunate news

"no I'm not-" Okane tried to explain but my mom just cut her off as she normally does when she's about to hear something she doesn't like.

"No need to be so modest here have some more food." She dumped more food on Okane's plate. Okane looked up at her with furrowed eyebrows, already full but didn't want to be rude.

"Honestly.. Okane was it? I don't know how you could handle him everyday and not go mad I almost lost my sanity one time with h-"

"Mom!..." I snapped, sitting up from the table, my hands against the desk. Both of them looked at me with a confused look, there was no way i was letting mom finish that sentence! I would rather die of embarrassment on my own accord!

"You left the oven on..." I mumbled,

"oh you're right ... I'll be right back Okane dear." She said as she scrambled to get up from the table.

I let out a sigh of relief. Honestly out of all the women why her? I found myself staring daggers at Okawa. Honestly, how could I end up in such a situation, in the wrong place, the wrong time with the wrong person–

I try pleading with the officers, who knows maybe she's the real culprit and slipped that thing into my pocket somehow–

nah-

...

They wouldn't believe me...

The next day rolled around like nothing ever happened, the sun shining, the birds singing, and a walking alarm strapped to my ankle, life is pretty sweet aint it?

"You sure do have a lot of stuff huh?" Gabriel murmured as he sorted through the piles of stuff on my floor. I know what you're thinking, no I didn't leave them on the floor, I'm not filthy- those are the things my mother tossed over from the other guest rooms, claiming to have rented it out to someone who'd be here soon.

With that and Maiya using the other guest room, there wasn't much place for these things so my mom decided to keep them and let me choose which goes and which stays, which I'll have to admit I'm a bit grateful for– especially considering my "magazines" are in this pile–

"Woah!" I flinched at Gabriel's sudden gasp, turning around, my mind already making up excuses for the magazine he probably found.

"I didn't know you had a dinosaur suit!" Gabriel looked at it in awe, slowly pulling iit up from the pile, stars practically beaming in his eyes.

I stared at him from the side of my bed with a concerned look in my eyes.

"If you want it you can take it- it was my cousin's but he left it here and never returned so-" I looked down at my phone scrolling through social media, I wonder if anything that happened made it on social media, this did have a company's star involved after all- fake or no.

"Ha!" I heard Gabriel gasp, I raised my head and before I knew it he already had the suit on, flexing to the camera on his phone with a stupid grin.

"I feel..... powerful!" He declared.

"You scare me sometimes...." I muttered- letting out a sigh and sitting on the side of my bed, the beeping on my phone catching my attention.

"Page could not be found—" I read softly, a twinge of annoyance striking me before hanging my head in disappointment, "Right-"

"...I forgot how slow the internet at home was." I lay back on the bed, my gaze on the ceiling in a blank stare.

"This was going to be a looooooooong house arrest-"

With a new morning, comes new opportunities, at least that is what people with opportunities say—

They peeked through my curtains and onto my eyelids as I sluggishly got out of bed, the sheets dragging off my body when I finally got on my two feet, I was not used to waking up this early– it should be a crime too! But alas, duties were forced upon me that I can't ignore.

"There're people coming over who would possibly want to rent the room, so make sure you secure the deal, alright?!" The memory of my mom's voice echoed in my mind as I shuffled to the bathroom.

I turned the knob but it wouldn't budge, a soft sigh escaped my lips as I rested my head on the door.

"Okane!!" I shouted, though my words fell on deaf ears as I heard her humming to herself in the bathroom, whistling to herself as the water would shower her in its…sweet, warm…comforting embrace.

I leaned against the door and slide to the floor, "That's fine- i'll just wait–" I murmured, surely she'll be out before you know it right? Right??

I sat there, in that one spot, for HOURS! My pupils dilated in pent up rage, my fingers practically clawing against the wooden door.

"Oh for the love of–" I shot to my feet, practically slamming my fist against the door.

"How much longer do you have in there!?" I shouted the water stopped for a brief moment as I heard Okane on the other side–

"What?" She called out as if she didn't already know

"Get out of there!

"Come on, I have to go!" I shouted, leaning against the door, my knees together as I tried to keep it in! I was at my limit, if i commit an accident right here I might as well just off myself! I'll never live it down!

"Hold it in!!" she shouted back from inside the comfort of the bathroom, the water running back as usual.

I let out a soft whimper of discomfort before sliding to the floor again, tears pricking the back of my eyes.

"P-please…" I looked up to the sky, my lips quivering and eyes filled with tears. "I need to use the bathroom!!"

I sat in the living room chair, watching Tv but my mind was turning the cogs to exact my sweet revenge! She hogged the bathroom all day today, and by the time I got in the guests had already arrived and I missed them apparently!

And I've gotten an earful because of it! The least she could've done was show them around for me atleast but NO!

I sat there, stewing in my own frustration, the weight of my mom's lecture still heavy on my shoulders. The TV blared in the background, but the words were just a blur. This isn't even about the guests anymore, or the tongue-lashing i got from my mom, this is about Principle! The bare Principle!

"Hey, Taida–" I heard my mom come down the stairs a confused look to her.

"Yeah?" I murmured, taking a minute to step out of my own head.

"Do you know where my comb is? I can't find it-" She murmured, I shrugged at her question, it was obvious who did it but then again there was no snitch– It clearly was Okawa but she can do no wrong in my mom's eyes-

"Did you check the bathroom?" I suggested, seeing her look up as if a lightbulb just went off, "thanks!"

She hurriedly rushed upstairs but then came back down, I let off a soft groan as I looked over to her.

"Yes?"

"Can you buy shampoo at the shops for me today? I just ran out!" She said, leaving and heading upstairs.

I groaned and sunk in my seat, my head slumped into my shoulders, wait— I sat up with a smile, the cogs in my head starting to turn even faster.

"Shampoo is a great option actually–"

I waited till dark, everyone was a sleep, and only the soft chirping of crickets were heard. I slowly got out of bed, my feet lightly skimming across the floor to head downstairs, opening it to see Gabriel standing with a bag filled with hair dyes.

"Are you sure you wan't to do this? Over a bath??" He whispered in a hushed voice as I took the bag,

"I didnt ask you here to play my conscience," I muttered, looking inside the bag with a huge grin.

"I know but–" His words were cut off as I slammed the door in his face, a soft silence remained as he stood there, dumbfounded. The rest of the night carrying on as normal.

"Any luck with the renting yet?" Gabriel pondered as he sat in my pile of things to get rid of, carefully picking out the things he wants as I scroll through my phone.

"Nope, the offer got dropped I think," I responded, letting out a soft yawn, waiting on the fruits of my labor to unfold, a smug smile often peaking from the corner of my lips as I thought about what could happen.

"Oh, by the way, I–" Gabriel tried to speak up but it was interrupted by a blood curdling scream and the door slamming open.

"What the hell is your problem!?" Okane shouted, looking at me with piercing eyes and a killing intent, I could hardly contain my laughter as she pushed the door open with bleached blonde hair, my eyes practically watering!!

"I don't know- maybe you read the label wrong…" I covered my mouth with my hand as I stared up at it, Gabriel too looking away before he got caught staring.

"Just put your hoodie up no one will notice," I commented, Okane walking up to me, her hand slapping me across the face in an echo that made the birds outside fly off the roof of our house.

Results for today's confrontation, Taida Haru loses.
