Chapter 7

The line to the guidance office stretched long, and according to Devon's estimate, he had been waiting for about an hour. Fortunately, he was standing next to Erwin, and they had a conversation to pass the time, making the wait less boring.

Now Erwin was inside the guidance office, and Devon was waiting for him to come out because he was next in line.

After a few moments, Erwin emerged from the guidance office. The shadowy figure that had enveloped him was gone.

"You're up next, boy! I didn't like the light inside and I think I should go to the practice area to rest. I'll head there first, boy," Erwin said to Devon.

Erwin hurriedly left, seeming irritable. As Devon walked towards the door, he observed Erwin and saw the shadow enveloping his body again. Devon thought that Erwin must have been irritated by the repeated process of being shrouded in shadow, which caused him to feel that way after being exposed to the light.

Devon entered the door, and a seated woman greeted him. She was their university's guidance counselor, Mrs. Capistrano. Although Devon had been studying at their university for a long time, this was his first personal encounter with her. According to rumors, Mrs. Capistrano was already old, but in Devon's eyes, she appeared to be under thirty.

Beside the counselor were two men, whom Devon presumed to be government employees assisting her.

"Good morning, ma'am," Devon greeted and took a vacant seat in front of the counselor's desk.

"Son, what happened? Why weren't you allowed to enter the campus? You seem normal." Mrs. Capistrano asked.

"Uhh... Well, I wasn't allowed to enter the campus because they said my appearance had changed compared to my ID photo," Devon explained.

"I see. Show me your ID and the other documents you brought," Mrs. Capistrano requested.

Devon handed over his brown envelope, and the guidance counselor began examining its contents.

Mrs. Capistrano carefully inspected what Devon had given her, starting with the ID. Her face showed surprise as she repeatedly looked at Devon and then at his ID. She wasn't convinced that the person in front of her was the same person in the ID. The ID displayed a chubby-faced individual, but the person in front of her had a different appearance, with a beautiful face and a body resembling that of a celebrity model. Devon's transformation seemed remarkable to her, but she couldn't draw any conclusions just yet.

"Oh, yes, you do look different. You've become handsome, is it really you? Or are you just pretending?" the guidance counselor teased.

Devon's face lit up with a shy smile upon hearing her comment, as it marked the first time a woman had referred to him as handsome. Meanwhile, the guidance counselor couldn't suppress a gentle flutter in her heart upon catching sight of him, as Devon's smile bore a striking resemblance to her favorite celebrity idols. He possessed the charm that could effortlessly captivate and enchant his fans with just a smile.

"It's me, ma'am!! But my appearance and body changed when I woke up this morning, I think it is because of my Gift." Devon explained.

‘Lucky you!!’

That's what Mrs. Capistrano whispered to herself upon hearing Devon's explanation. A Gift that could give someone a good appearance and physique to those who received it. It was a jackpot for those who had been deprived by fate, especially in this time when people spent money to look presentable and be liked by the majority.

So Mrs. Capistrano looked at Devon's records about his Gift opening. It stated that his Gift was a...

"Stress Ball??!!" Mrs. Capistrano accidentally exclaimed her thoughts out loud due to surprise.

"Yes, ma'am, I got a Stress Ball. I think the change in my body happened because my Gift modified my body to a stress-free one, hehe" Devon explained.

"Oh, I see..." Mrs. Capistrano didn't ask further. She had a point, but to become handsome overnight, that was truly a jackpot in her eyes.

She looked at Devon's other papers but couldn't find the requirement she wanted to check among them.

"You don't have a Parent's Letter? I can't find it in your documents."

"I didn't bring it, ma'am. My dad was in a hurry earlier, so I couldn't make one," Devon explained.

"Oh dear! We need someone to verify your identity. The documents you brought are not enough."

"Maybe I can call him, ma'am? You can talk to him to verify my identity."

"That's possible. We'll make the call. Let me check his number in your records."

She faced the computer and searched for Devon's records. When she found them, she took her phone to dial the number listed but stopped when Devon stopped her.

"Uh, well, ma'am, I registered my guardian's phone number as my contact details in the records. But my guardian is on vacation now, so he's not available for a call," Devon lied.

His father's name was not listed as his guardian in the records; it was his cousin's. Both of them had the same surname, Devlin, so it wasn't difficult for the school management not to question it. Who was he, after all, for the university to pay attention to? As long as he could show a guardian, he knew it would be fine and another thing about it is his real father didn't use Devlin as his surname.

The reason his father's last name was different was that his father carried the surname Laxamana. It was his late grandmother's surname, who was the founder of Lax Technologies, the company where his father was the CEO. As a CEO, his father chose to carry the Laxamana surname to preserve her legacy rather than Devlin and also for privacy purposes to protect his family. That was why he hid his identity as the child of a billionaire in the school he attended. Devon didn't want to become the subject of gossip, so he chose to live as a regular student.

For now, he had no choice but to introduce his father as his real guardian because, first and foremost, his father was the only one who knew about his change in appearance and body. He hadn't met his cousin, so he was unaware of what had happened to Devon. If the Guidance called him, he would be in trouble.

But it seemed like trouble was brewing because the mood of the Guidance Counselor changed. While she had a pleasant aura earlier, now she seemed serious. Putting incorrect information in Personal Records was a serious violation in the school.

"Who is this Manuel Devlin? How are you related to him? And based on your Birth Certificate, your father's name is David Devlin, right? Why isn't he registered as your guardian? We need a parent or guardian to verify your identity," the Guidance Counselor questioned him with suspicion.

"My dad is busy all the time, so I couldn't put him as my guardian, ma'am. But now I have my dad's phone number. We can call him to verify my identity," Devon explained, taking out his phone and dialing his father's number on the screen.

"But, young man, you seem doubtful. Can you ask your dad to come here so we can personally talk in the Guidance Office?"

"Sure, ma'am. I'll call him. It will just take a moment."

Nervously, Devon dialed his father's number, given the tone of the Guidance Counselor's speech. She was in a hurry and seemed unwilling to waste any more minutes since there were many people waiting outside.

After a moment, his father answered the phone call.

"Oh, son, what happened that you called?"

"Dad, I need your presence at the school. They need your statement to prove my identity."

"That's fine, but I can only stay for a short while because I have a business meeting in 30 minutes. Did you bring the card?"

"Wait a moment..."

Devon rummaged through his bag to find the card his father referred to. After a moment, he found it. It was a card with a picture of a wooden door.

"Okay, Dad, I found it."

"Alright, stick it on the wall, and I'll come there."

Without hesitation, Devon placed the card on the vacant wall in the Guidance Office. Everyone in the room, including Devon, was surprised when it grew in size and transformed into a door.

*******

Lax Technologies Company Lounge.

David, Devon's father, was currently having coffee when he was interrupted by a phone call from his son. Upon learning the reason for the call, he paused his activities and called his personal assistant, Lorenzo.

"Lorenzo, please come here for a moment. Use your Gift; I need to go to Devon's school. He must have already placed your Card."

"Okay, Boss."

Lorenzo took out his Card with a picture of a door and stuck it on the wall.

"Link!"

Laurenzo shouted, and the door grew in size.

"It's ready, Boss!"

David stood up from his seat and approached the door. He opened it, and Laurenzo followed behind him.

When he opened the door, he was greeted by the sight of the Guidance Office, where his son was sitting. He also saw a woman beside his son, whom David assumed was the Guidance Counselor, along with two men.

"I'm in a hurry now. What do I need to do or provide to verify my son's identity?" David asked as he stepped out of the door.

Everyone in the room was shocked and wide-eyed at the sight. Even the waiting students outside peeked inside when they noticed someone emerging from the wall. They all had the same thought, as most of them knew who the person coming out of the door was. It was none other than David Laxamana, the CEO of one of the top Gift Support Developers in the country. David Laxamana of Lax Technologies!
