Cyrus, Maddie and Henry walked downstairs to the first floor so they could eat lunch. They entered the big dining hall. The dining hall was, like the rest of the school, gorgeous. Three big chandeliers hung from the ceiling, lighting up the room. The dining hall was filled with students already, and all they could hear was everyone talking. Cyrus heads for the table on the right and sits at the far end and saves the seat next to him for Maddie, and the seat across from him for Henry. Cyrus always grabbed the seats first so that no one stole them, although he never thought anyone would. After waiting for a few minutes, he saw the two walking towards the table with food in their hands. They took their seats. Cyrus wasn’t eating as he just wanted to stay focused on the task. Cyrus pulled out his schedule, which Maddie and Henry shared. He laid it out on the table.
“Ok, so we have three more classes today. Right after lunch, we have Combat Training. Then at four we have Magic History and then later this evening at seven, we have Potions Class," Cyrus said.
“Oh yeah, Combat Training. Do you know what we will be using today?” Henry asked.
“I’m going to assume swords, but really I have no idea," Cyrus said.
They continued eating, while Cyrus looked through his notes that he had been taking on the hourglass.
“After Combat Training, we should go back to that door we found in the hall. Maybe we could get it open," Cyrus said.
While Maddie and Henry were eating, Cyrus looked up to see Arlo staring at them. Cyrus had a pencil in his hand at the time. He slammed the pencil down on the table and stared back intently. Arlo quickly averted his gaze and returned to looking back at his group of friends who were talking. Henry looked up at Cyrus.
“You alright?” Henry said as he turned around to try and see what he was looking at.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It was just Arlo," Cyrus said.
After lunch, they headed downstairs to the Hole. Which was a room that Combat Training was held in, in the sewer system that traveled underneath the school. Or the dungeons some students called it. The Hole was a big room underground that was all stone. Stone walls, stone floor and stone ceiling. It was always cold down there, so whenever a class was to be held down there, they had to light a big fireplace in the middle of the room to warm the room up. As Cyrus and his friends descended down the stairs, they felt the cold hit them. They walked through the sewer system that was lit with torches on the walls and they reached the Hole, which they saw was dark and cold.
“They must not have had any classes down here today," Maddie said.
The three grabbed the torches they kept by the door and they held their hands over the tip of the torch. A flame formed on the torch. As Cyrus was lighting the torches, he passed by the big fireplace, and held his hand out with his palm and fingers pointed upwards, like he was gripping a ball that wasn’t there. A ball of fire formed in his hand and he motioned his hand towards the wood in the fireplace. The small ball of fire flew to the wood and the wood caught fire and Cyrus threw another piece in. Maddie and Henry were walking around the room lighting the torches. Cyrus joined them. Once the room was lit and started to heat up, Cyrus sat at the Professor's desk, while Maddie started doing homework, with Henry cheating off of her paper. Professor Aluxio soon arrived. A tough man with a beard and a ponytail. He also had a rough voice and a scar on his face. Professor Aluxio had limited magic, but a mastery of combat. He had fought in many battles and a war before becoming a Professor at Stormyrose.
“Hey, what are you doing at my desk?" Professor Aluxio said.
“Waiting for you. Hey, what’s with this?” Cyrus asked with a smile as he pointed his hands out.
Professor Aluxio looked around.
“We had to light the fireplace to warm up the room and light the torches so we could even see in here," Cyrus said with a smile.
“Thanks for that, it saves me a little bit of work," Professor Aluxio replied with a chuckle.
The class arrived a few minutes later and Professor Aluxio started the class. He explained today that they would be using swords. Cyrus looked over at Henry.
“Damn I’m good," Cyrus said with a smile.
Henry replied with a smile. Professor Aluxio walked over to a gate and unlocked it. He lit the torches in the room and all of the students walked into the room to grab swords. While the students choose their swords, Professor Aluxio sets up the dummies. The swords were dull and couldn’t cut anyone. They were only used to learn the movements of sword fighting. Professor Aluxio called all the students. The ones who were less experienced, he sent over to the dummies, and the students who were more experienced, he was going to pair them off. Henry was paired with a student named Lucas, Maddie was paired with a girl named Mia, and Cyrus was paired off with a student named Danny. As soon as Professor Aluxio called their names, Cyrus rolled his eyes and grunted.
“What’s wrong?” Maddie asked.
“This kid Danny is close friends with Arlo. This should be fun," Cyrus said.
He looked over at Danny who was looking at Cyrus with a menacing smile. Professor Aluxio waited for everyone to face off. The students all stood face to face.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“Draw!” Professor Aluxio yelled.
The students all drew their swords. While most of the students were having fun with it and swinging their swords, Cyrus and Danny were staring at each other.
“Whenever you’re ready," Cyrus said with a smirk.
Danny swung at Cyrus who blocked the attack and took his hand and pushed Danny back. He stumbled, almost losing his balance and falling. He got back in his stance, and jabbed the tip of the sword at Cyrus, he leaned back as the tip of the dull sword would’ve hit Cyrus in the eye. Danny then swung again. Cyrus stepped to the side and punched Danny in the side of the face, dropping him to the ground. Professor Aluxio yelled for them to stop and he ran over to them.
“He started it, he wasn’t trying to practice, he was truly trying to attack me," Cyrus said.
“Don’t worry, I saw that. Go see Professor Whitlock Danny. Cyrus, you stay here," Professor Aluxio said.
After Danny left the class, Cyrus explained that Danny is friends with Arlo and they hate Cyrus and his friends.
"Don't worry about it. I saw him attack you, you’re alright," Professor Aluxio said.
They continued the class, with Cyrus joining Henry and Lucas. The three of them took turns, switching back and forth and making sure everyone got a chance to train. They did this until the end of class while Professor Aluxio wrote a letter to Professor Whitlock and sent it. Whenever a Professor had to send a letter to Professor Whitlock, they would cast a spell over it and let it go. The letter would then fly to the nearest window and fly up to the top of the school to Professor Whitlocks office. There was a small window in this room but it was near the ceiling. Ther letter rose up and flew up and out of the window. The students continued to train until the bell. Once the bell rang, the students all put their swords back on the rack inside the cage and Professor Aluxio locked the cage and dismissed the class. After all of the students had exited the class, Cyrus stayed with Maddie and Henry.
“Professor. The three of us have been tasked with finding the hourglass. Do you happen to have any information for us?” Cyrus asked.
“I’ve been looking into it as well, but unfortunately I’ve come up with nothing,” Professor Aluxio said.
“Well, us and a few other professors suspect that it had to have been someone that was already in the building,” Cyrus said.
“I would agree, and it also is hidden away from the school. I’m gonna head out either tonight or tomorrow and see if I can find a trail to follow,” Professor Aluxio said.
“If you find anything, let me know,” Cyrus said.
“I absolutely will,” Professor Aluxio said.
Cyrus and his friends said goodbye to Professor Aluxio and exited the class
"Ok, good. Now we have a few hours before our final class," Cyrus said.
He led his friends down to the Hall Of Magic History and walked over to the door he saw earlier. He tried opening it by using the door knob, and then trying to use his shoulder to bash the door in.
"Jeez Cyrus. You aren't being very discreet," Maddie said.
"Do you happen to have a better idea?" Cyrus asked.
"Yeah, I studied something earlier that might help," Maddie said.
She walked up to the door and knelt down.
"Excutino," She said.
The door popped open. Cyrus looked over at Maddie and back at the door. Maddie looked up at Cyrus and they smiled at each other.
"Nice move," Cyrus said.
"It worked, I can't believe it. The only problem is, now they need the lock repaired," Maddie said.
"Why? It won't lock again?" Cyrus asked.
"No, I melted the lock from the inside," Maddie said.
Cyrus laughed and then pushed the door open. The door opened up to a long dark corridor. Cyrus held his hand around the torch hanging on the wall causing the tip of the torch to light.
“There, now we’ll know our way out,” Cyrus said.
Cyrus held his hand out, palm facing up. “Coniuetus Lux,” he said. A ball of light formed in his hand. Maddie and Henry quickly followed and did the same thing, lighting up the dark hallway. He walked down the hallway with his friends. The hallway was filled with cobwebs, and had a musty smell.
"This corridor clearly hasn't been used in a long time," Cyrus said.
They continued along until coming to an opening. They jumped down a few feet and were in the sewer.
"Are these the sewer tunnels that lead to the hole?" Henry asked.
"No, these tunnels lead outside the building," Cyrus said.
"How do you know?" Maddie asked.
"I used to come down here when I was younger. I haven't been down here in years though. And I’ve never come from that hallway before," Cyrus said.
"Why did you come down here?" Maddie asked.
Cyrus looked back at her, not knowing what to say at first. Finally, he spoke.
"To explore," He said.
They continued on through the sewer systems. They avoided going down certain paths, as Cyrus knew where they led. He led them towards the exit, so he could see where they came up. He found a ladder, and climbed it. He came to a manhole cover. He tried to open it, but failed. He tried putting all his weight against it, but it was sealed. He climbed back down the ladder, and found a doorway. He tried to open it, but found that it was locked. He looked down at the lock and then back at his friends.
Instead of trying to bust the door open, or continuing to explore, Cyrus led his friends out of the sewer systems. With each of them trying to stop him and ask him questions.
“We’ll talk about it when we get somewhere safe,” Cyrus said.
They got back through the door that led into the school, which Cyrus then blocked with a shelf and they walked to the library so they could discuss a plan.
"We have to get in that door," Cyrus said.
"Why didn't you just have Maddie melt the lock?" Henry asked.
"Because it's not locked with a regular lock. It's locked with magic. I saw it. The weird thing is, it's a conjured lock. It’s called a Bound lock,” Cyrus said.
"Conjuration, that’s your specialty. Can you get it open?" Maddie asked.
"I might be able to. I didn't want to try it when we were down there, in fear of what might lie behind that door. It’s not often you see a bound lock, so Once I saw it, I got a bad feeling. Something doesn't seem right," Cyrus said.
Maddie and Henry studied for their classes, and Cyrus read through a conjuration book. The bell rang, and it was time for their four o’clock class which was Magic History.
