A walk down the street

He walked down the street, neon lights softly lighting the contours of his face. Looking at the various changes to the street since he had been down it last, finding his glances staying more at the parts that were still the same.

There had been the meeting of the gangs in front of the VR store. Which was now a tourist trap store, but in front of the store was the same bollard upon which the gang leader had his brains bashed out on.

Further on was a little private doorway, which had enough hangover for two teens to huddle under and kiss for hours till they were interrupted by someone either leaving or entering the building. All the same building features, just covered in a multitude of neon flashboards. No dark corner for teenagers to whisper to each and explore the tactile world of lips. He smiled in memory of that girl with the dark eyes and oh so alluring lips.

Everything was roughly the same, but it was all different. Or could it just be him that had changed, to the extent that he just couldn’t connect with the place he called home so long ago. Suddenly he hears a voice. He turns and looks and sees a man talking some patter while serving up a plate of pizza to two young boys. He is suddenly transported back 25 years ago and is forced to conclude, it is him that has changed.

Reluctantly tearing himself away from the sight, he continues his journey down the road. For he has a journey to complete, one that he has been waiting to finish for a long time. When it is done, he will likely never come back here to this street again. A life was going to end tonight, a necessary thing. How he wished that it could be different, though.

But for one of two boys who ate pizza, kissed the sister of the boy who ate pizza with him and saw his best friend on the floor with his brains around him, a choice was made.
