The Letter
Chapter 2
Sweat streamed down Ashley's face as she struggled to climb the mountain. Once she (finally) reached the top, she looked around. She finally spotted a humongous cabin with the name HORSEWOOD carved onto the door. She walked over to it and went inside. She looked around and called out, "Dad?" "I'm here," he said, poking his head out from the kitchen. "Whaddya need?" His face filled Ashley with relief, for she half-expected for the creepy she-hybrid monster to be there. Even though Ashley didn't even know what Abagail Hansworm looked like, Chief was always serious so Ashley was sure it would be bad. Ashley replied to her Dad, "I don't need anything, but thank you for asking. I was just wondering where you were."
Her Dad smiled. "I'm here in the kitchen, trying to figure out where it is. But I can't seem to figure it out." He replied. "Do you want to help me figure out where this hybrid might be, make some friends, or maybe play a game?" Ashley thought about those options. She finally decided on helping Dad figure out where the monster might be.

After a long afternoon of hard work, they had found nothing. But somehow, Dad still had confidence. Ashley wasn't exactly sure why until Dad said, "Hey honey? Thanks for the encouraging letter. I would've never made it this far without you. It was a really nice letter." Ashley just gave a tight smile.
The next day, her Dad and Ashley worked hard and long trying to find the whereabouts of the monsters, but no luck. When Ashley went to bed that night, a question whirled in her head, unable to get out. Who sent that letter?
When Ashley looked out the window into the pitch-black night, she was sure she saw the looming shape of a monster.
