It takes less than six hours for Drake to loot every store he knew that would sell food in the city.
It was earlier than expected.
With the amount he gets, it can sustain an entire town for about half to maximum of a year if consumed sparsely.
There are three more hours before dawn. Drake needs to get back before the sun rises.
He was kind of worried about leaving his sister alone with those bunch of scheming sons of a bitch.
With his show of brutality that previous morning, he was sure they would at least hold off their malicious hands from his sister.
But he can't guarantee that it would stay that way if he were absent for too long.
That's why Drake decided not to be too greedy and head back.
Anyway, with the amount he looted, he can guarantee they won't be starving for at least another ten years. And by that time, they would be strong enough already to be self-sufficient.
…
An hour later, Drake finally arrived on the school campus without hiccups, using the same path he used when going out.
Standing at the door outside the school gymnasium building, Drake was slightly worried after leaving his sister. He nervously knocked on the door as he waited for someone to open it.
After knocking several times, someone finally answered him.
"Who's there?"
It was the professor's aged voice that answered him.
Drake stayed silent for about ten seconds before finally answering.
"It's me, teacher Jessica's brother."
"Oh, it's you." The old professor opened the door after hearing it was Drake, Jessica's little brother.
Drake entered the building unsuspiciously, without anything on him.
It made the professor curious about where Drake could've gone for so long. But the professor didn't inquire much about Drake's activity as she let him pass silently.
Entering the building, it was dark inside. There were no more phone flashlights that kept the darkness away.
Drake traced the previous position of his sister based on his memory, navigating his way in the dark.
He was slightly frustrated that despite widening or straining his eyes, he couldn't see a damn thing since no one was opening their phone's flash at this moment.
Drake could only crawl slowly towards his sister, stretching his hands out to guide his way.
Drake felt pathetic as he wondered if this is what a blind man feels whenever they want to go somewhere.
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Soon, Drake arrives at the wall. He remembered that the two were nearby the wall previously. He guessed that they would stay there.
Drake traced his path with his two outstretched hands, carefully feeling his way.
As he searched for his sister, it didn't take long before his hand suddenly landed on something soft.
It was so squishy that it felt so pleasant to touch. Drake can't help but feel it more.
But before he could fully enjoy that sensation, he heard a shocked voice in front, followed by someone's hand violently pushing him away.
…
After the professor's younger brother left, Katie was together with Professor Jessica.
She felt a little worried when Drake left somewhere, leaving them behind.
Katie can't help but become a little dependent on Drake. Ever since her rescue in that school building, she can't help but feel an inexplicable trust in him.
That feeling of dependency only became more apparent after receiving food from him while the others could only starve for the night. She couldn't help but wonder if this was what it felt to have a boyfriend.
Hours passed but the guy Drake still wasn't back.
Since she and Professor Jessica didn't talk much, she soon became bored of waiting for Drake.
She turned off the flash of her phone as they leaned on the wall, trying to sleep the rest of the night. And soon, they fell asleep.
Amidst her light sleep, she felt someone touch her chest. Katie soon woke up. She was alerted by the feeling of someone groping her chest.
She let out a yelp as she violently pushed away whoever this bastard that took advantage of her.
She hurriedly reached for her phone in her pocket to see who dared to act so shamelessly as to touch her breast.
Turning on her phone's flash, she saw who it was.
Katie was stunned, mute. She didn't expect that it was the guy whom she was anticipating to arrive all this time. She didn't know what to say as they started their staring contest.
…
"...oh? huh?...Drake?What took you so long? You didn't know how worried I was!"
Jessica just woke up after the commotion and indignantly complained to Drake who just arrived.
Shifting his attention to his sister, Drake said; "Well…It's kinda hard to explain. I'll tell you about it tomorrow. For now, I need to catch some sleep."
Drake awkwardly said as he controlled his facial expressions, making his face twitch a few times.
"...hmm? What's the matter with you?" Feeling something amiss, Jessica inquired.
"It's nothing." Drake said coolly. He briefly glanced at Katie, acting as if nothing happened, But behind his calm facade were his sweaty hands.
Katie only stared at the calm and collected figure of Drake without saying anything, tightly guarding her chest.
Because of the dimmed surroundings, Jessica didn't notice the weirdness between the two.
"Okay, let's talk about it tomorrow." Jessica nodded understandingly.
…
The sun rises as a new day has begun.
The day started with fine weather outside, but it can't be said to be the same for the group of people running around chased by a bunch of zombies.
After not eating for the whole day, the men rescued by Drake mustered some courage and went outside to find some food, except for the crippled Charlie.
Charlie was already awake hours before Drake came back. But he can only curse and groan as he feels unbearable pain, to the point that he wished he were dead.
Charlie felt he was going mad as his heart was burning in the flame of his vengeance.
After Carlo sees how pathetic Charlie has become, his previous respect for Charlie has waned. But for their past "friendship" sake, Carlo didn't completely abandon the helpless Charlie, promising he would get some medicine for his injury.
Carlo and the rest of the men went outside to find some food while the girls remained at the gymnasium building.
Katie is the only one who volunteers to join the men's expedition to find food among the girls. But she was promptly stopped by Jessica.
The other girls, even in this apocalypse, can't adjust to the situations and still act like bitches who feel entitled. Expecting that men should do the work and give them fair shares of the fruit of their hard work.
In this regard, Drake was impressed by Katie's courageous attitude as he closed and opened his hand several times, reminiscing about the sensation he still can't forget after that night.
Drake's impression of Katie became slightly favorable, thinking she wasn't so bad.
(A/N: her attitude or her booba? hmm…( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
In another corner, Drake could see Charlie's cold and piercing glare.
Catching sight of that menacing eye of Charlie, coupled with his sorry state, ignited some kind of dormant emotion lying deep within Drake.
'Ohho~ that's the expression! How I love to gouge your remaining eyeball out! Seeing your precious expression, I can't let you die just yet. hehehe…'
A mad glint flashes briefly on Drake's eye as he suppresses the rising grin on the corner of his lips.
Ignoring Charlie, Drake watches the group do their own thing without meddling as he contemplates what to do.
Now that they have enough rations, Drake planned to do some serious grinding together with his sister.
But, he first needs to convince his sister to separate with the rest of the group.
Drake didn't see any benefits for bringing this bunch of luggage with no potential with them.
So far, the only promising individual he saw among this group was this girl with eyeglasses–Katie.
Her determination and willingness to adapt was admirable.
