Ryan Hunter is a video game content creator who find himself suffering from a fatal illness. In order to preserve his life, he downloads his consciousness into an experimental augmented reality video game known as Cosmic Horizons. The game is all about second chances and trying new experiences, be it something as vast as exploring the cosmos, or as simple as reinventing yourself. The process works, and Ryan uses the character creator to completely change his appearance. Ryan redesigns his body to resemble his old streaming avatar, Orion Starbeard, as a cybernetic space orc. Thankfully he's not alone, having an onboard AI assistant named Apus. Prepared to start his new digital life, Orion touches the portal to the tutorial area. A critical glitch occurs and nearly kills Orion in the process. He wakes up in the ruins of a colony ship, long abandoned on a barren desert planet. He has no tutorial, no Apus, and memory loss. Now Orion has to learn how to survive on a hostile planet with only his wits, his extensive knowledge of games, and this gun he found.
