In winter snow
The blue light glow
Seeking huntress bends her bow
For living heart in snow was lost
Nothing now fulfills the cost
Covers all a layer of frost.
Baker pulled his coat tight as he stepped out of the Tavern to walk home. The wind carried the evening chill through his face and into his very bones. it was far colder than it had any right to be in the middle of May. Spring it would seem had decided not to come this year. Baker began trudging through the snow. He didn't have far to go and wanted to be out as little as possible.
Baker was nearly home when he saw something in the path. It was difficult to make it out in the failing light so he approached it with caution. Whatever it was, it wasn't moving.
It was a naked woman.
It was a naked woman lying in the snow.
Baker rushed over to her to check for signs of life. He checked for a pulse and placed a hand on her forehead. The pulse was their but she was burning up. Better than the cold of death but without help that would only be a matter of time.
Stolen novel; please report.
Baker scooped her up and nearly flew down the path to home. Once their he bundled her up and started a fire. Then Baker made for the door. He was no healer and a healer was what was needed.
No sooner had he reached the door than it shook as the howl of the wind suddenly rose. When he left the tavern their hadent been a cloud in the sky but now their was a blizzard just outside his door. He had been lucky to make it home. He had been lucky to find the woman when he did.
Baker turned back to look at her by the fire and their eyes met. In that moment time stopped. He couldn't even hear the storm raging outside. Every heartbeat took an age. Nothing else in the world mattered at that moment. Then the moment passed, the storm picked up and Baker moved to put a soup on.
If baker couldn't get the healer, he could at least put something warm in the woman. As he worked the storm picked up. It howled and shook the house. He had to stop at one point to put more wood on the fire as it began to get truly cold.
The woman watched him work. All the while she said nothing. She merely went deeper into the blanket and waited until she fell over. Baker left the soup, it was simmering anyhow and he went to her. The woman was still awake but her eyes had glazed a little.
"Soups nearly done then we can get you to bed."
Baker took a bowl and filled it. He took it to her but she couldent quite take the spoon. So Baker fed her, slowly so as to not maker her sick. She was unable to eat all that was in the bowl falling asleep half way through. Baker then picked her up and took her to his bed where he bundled her for the night. then he got another bowl and sat with it by the fire.
