Love at first sight cannot happen because their is no such thing as true love.
High Priest of the Silence
Baker stood in a small pool of light within a dark room. Silence held all in its power. Yet Baker knew he was not alone. The darkness was not empty. It held red eyes that would engulf him if they could.
Baker awoke with a start sitting bolt upright and his foot kicked out knocking the pot of the cold hearth spilling the remainder of the soup. It took him a moment to get his bearings. The first thing Baker noticed was the quiet. The tenable storm from last night must be over then. With that though Baker remembered the rest of what had happened and he got up to go over to his bed.
The bed was empty. Bakers house only had the one room so their was no where for her to be. Fear griped his heart. She had that fever and still needed the healer. Could she have wandered off in the snow? Baker made for the door, stooping just long enough to grab his coat for himself and the blanket for the woman. Baker jerked open the door and stood stone still. The sun was shining, the air was warm, the snow was gone.
Overnight, Spring had come.
Baker slowly steeped through the door. It was impossible. The ground wasent even muddy. If he had only this day to go by Baker would never have believed the winter from the day before.

Then Baker remembered his purpose. The strange weather didn't make his guest any safer. He looked around the house where he found knee high grass, grass hoppers and the garter snake who ate them. Baker found the tree in his back yard which not only had all its leaves but was in full bloom. What he did not find was the woman.
Baker climbed the tree in back as high as he could get and looked around. The mountain rose above his house. He could see where the fields were on this side of it. He could see the arms of the Mountain as they came down to wrap around the village. He could see the neighboring homes. He couldn't see the woman any where he could look. He did see however the crowd of people at the tavern. If she wasent near by then He would get help.
Some people were talking outside of the tavern but most were going in. Everyone seemed to be talking about the weather and what It meant. Baker had no time for that. He deftly made his way to the door and went in.
The woman, fully clothed, was sitting in the middle of the room loosely surrounded by a group of people and was sitting with the healer. She had strawberry red hair and her skin was tanned as though she had spent most of her life outdoors. She was wearing a yellow sundress with spring flowers embroidered on it. However what caught his attention were her eyes which filled all his world when she turned and looked at him. Were they green or were they a pale grey? He couldent be sure. What he could be sure of was a strength of charater. In those eyes their was steel but gentleness. Their was pain and suffering but also hope. Their was sadness and loss but also joy. Their was a vacancy which did not belong. Then she smiled at him as it was as if the sun rose for the first time.
