Theo recognizes the voice.
He moved towards the door, with one step he slammed up against it.
The familiar voice spoke again “hey are you alright in there? Or are you trying to kick the door on to us?”
What the hell is James doing here? And who did he bring with him? Theo had a slight sour taste in his mouth. James used to be a good friend of his, that was until he got his power 2 years ago. He went and joined one of the top 10 factions called Horizon.
Theo took a deep breath before unlocking the door and pulling it open, ripping it off its hinge.
James stood there, with his usual happy grin absent, It was replaced with shock.
Directly behind him was a tall woman, with short black hair and sharp green eyes, She had an unreadable expression.
”Theo, its been a while buddy, you don't intend to hit me with that door do you?” James started off saying while his face turned into a smile.
In a slightly monotoned sarcastic voice, Theo replied. “Buddy? It’s been 2 years. 2 years James, you could have stopped by sometime.” He let go of the door letting it fall to the ground.
With a look of urgency James replied “im sorry man, iv been really busy, it looks like you awakened a fine strength power, but really, we should talk.”
Theo looked them both up and down, “yeah? What do we need to talk about? How you just abandoned me? We were like best friends. And then you just show up with what, your girlfriend?”
The girl stepped forward, with a presence that instantly put Theo on edge, “I'm not his Girlfriend, i'm a member of horizon and it would be best if you listened to what your friend had to say.” She stared at Theo with a glare, not one of anger, but one of studying and curiosity.
James, putting his hand in front of the girl “Alyssa, its ok I got this.” He looked over at Theo, “ I'm sorry man, I shouldn’t have ghosted you like that, for that I am sorry. But you should come with us. This is an opportunity for you. We saw your power awaken from outside.”

Theo tensed up, looking towards the window, he never shut the blinds. Thinking to himself “shit shit shit.”
“Relax.” James waved a hand. ”That was something else man, the lights flickered for the whole building, you were…. floating in the air, and then boom you slammed down to the ground. I have never seen anything like that.”
Theo’s stomach tightened. He was in some kind of void, he had no idea what was happening around him. He was floating? The lights for the entire building were flickering? What exactly was this power? How does he even use it?
“What does Horizon want with me?” he asked, keeping his voice steady.
Alyssa studied him for a moment before speaking. “You awakened today.” It wasn’t a question.
Theo’s jaw tightened.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Theo said carefully.
Alyssa smirked. “You’re a terrible liar.”
James sighed. “Look, man. We don’t know what your power is, you were floating, and the lights were flickering, and now you show us supper strength. You’re different.”
Theo stared at them both. “So what were you doing outside, why were you here?”
“Today is you birthday man, I wanted to see what power you awakened and offer you to come with me. Honestly I was trying to remember what building was urs so We were driving around when, and then the lights started flickering, when we approached I realized it was your building, and then i seen you floating through the window, So its obvious your power did that.”
Theo’s fingers twitched at his side.
“So you remembered my birthday, but you only reached out after I awakened. Thats fucked up man. You were only hoping I'd awaken a good power,” he said.
Alyssa tilted her head slightly. “Horizon takes an interest in people who stand out. So I am interested in you now, But your friend here, he wanted you to just try testing your abilities at our training facility before you registered them with the government.”
“I don’t stand out.” Theo replied, Im broke, look at where I live.
James snorted. “Yeah, okay. Says the person who was floating and caused lights to flicker for an apartment building on his awakening.”
Theo stared at him with a blank face
Alyssa stepped forward again, pushing James hand out the way, Her green eyes locked onto his, “we’re offering you an opportunity, we have resources, training rooms, If you join us then you’ll have access to all of it all the time, You will be ahead of everyone else that awakened today,.”
Theo rubbed his temples “So first you tell me James just wanted to help now you already trying to recruit me? what if I don't want to join Horizon?”
Alyssa smirked, “listen” James interrupted her. “ Theo, your still my friend, a close one too. You don't have to make a decision now, but come with us. We can help you run some tests, you can test your power before registering and you can see exactly what you're working with.”
Theo hesitated. He wasn’t sure he wanted Horizon involved. Factions were powerful, but they all had their own agendas.
And yet… this was a chance possibly to get some answers.
If he wanted to survive, he needed to understand his power.
Theo exhaled slowly. “Fine. But I’m not promising anything.”
James nodded and smiled. “Fair enough let's go.”
As he readied himself to step out into the night, Theo couldn't help but wonder if this was the right decision. Him and James used to always have each other's backs, for the time being he was going to have to trust a friend he thought just forgot about him.
