Chapter 55 – Necro
Mi Quo, one of Toy Pu-Che’s disciples, was doing his rounds, checking on the Wendigos. He told himself he was very proud that the master had allowed him this duty after his unfortunate mistake of using the wrong plants. When in fact, he did not feel proud at all. He felt wretched.
However, it was not his fault. The master had demanded they find vast amounts of a particularly poisonous plant to infuse into the Wendigos by feeding them poisoned beasts. But when some of his lesser disciples had had trouble finding them, they had substituted for inferior rarity plants. Unfortunately, Mi Quo had not spotted this until it was too late, and a Wendigo had been inspected by Toy Pu-Che and found it resultantly to be inferior.
Mi Quo had been stripped of his staff of tribulations and demoted to a collector, the lowest of the low. He had hoped and dreamed of being a great necromancer like Toy Pu-Che, but his hopes were dashed, torn asunder like beasts under the feet of a rampaging Wendigo.
He pulled himself out of his funk only to look down at his Talley and recheck his position. He was wearing a talisman, so he had nothing to fear from one of their Wendigos but plenty to fear from Toy Pu-Che if he made any other mistakes.
He had encountered precisely zero Wendigos where there should have been at least three. They had yet to be commanded to move from this area. Or had they? Was it the case that he was not privy to such information anymore, being so low on the totem pole of command?
Just what the hell should he do?
Adam was doing great at the moment, but he wasn’t sure this part of the forest would ever revive. The amount of dark energy pouring in as the Wendigos from all around swarmed the place was terrifying. Dark energy swirled like an angry soul; perhaps it was actually. Covering the area in an ever-expanding nightmare. The forest around was being devoured, leaving nothing but the ashen ground.
On the other hand, he was toping up his SP rather nicely. The arrays were doing a fantastic job of converting the dark mana to pure mana without demanding a transfer cost.
Also, once the Wendigos had been sucked dry of mana, their cores were left untainted, giving them loads of extra storage cores.
They had expected to require a couple of hundred standard beast (M-Tier and below) cores for a basic PD. Still, the possibilities grew with potentially hundreds of Wendigo cores (T-Tier and above) as one Tier-T core was equivalent to about 60 thousand Tier-M cores.
Libby and Echo had been speculating as to what they could do. They reasoned a balance should be struck, ideally filling up Adam’s spirit sea, and whatever was left over could be used for the PD.
Mi Quo was not the only one who noticed the sky overhead turning dark prematurely.

Bai Bo-Xue had made it back to Binyon village and was asking for the whereabouts of Adam. He had some thinking as there was one thing he had yet to mention to his brother. Another misnomer, Adam, was only level 13. The only explanation for this was that he had traveled the godless path, which did explain why he would be lying low. In addition, he had perhaps killed many sect members. But when Bo-Xue checked to see if there was a bounty on his head, he could find no record of one at Weihou.
Maybe he should ask the man outright? Or better still, get someone else to do it. Yes, that was a much better idea. Maybe Linlang? Or he could ask Thawain?
He would ask Thawain first, then see if Linlang or someone could get it out of Adam if that failed.
Bai Bo-Xue approached Thawain, finding him sitting in the sun outside his now-completed house. It could be said that Thawain was more of a kindred spirit than he had thought previously, as everyone else was out doing chores while he was relaxing.
Thawain was startled by Bai’s approach and made a pretense of checking in some boxes on the floor. This made Bai chuckle, finding that he was warming to the man.
“Thawain, how are you today? Your house looks amazing. I know we celebrated its building before, but it never hurts to do a job thoroughly.”, Bai said, offering Thawain a bottle of plum wine and two glasses. Thawain brightened at this, went into the house, and brought out a table and two small chairs. However, they seemed to be doing something else inside the home; Bai could not see.
It was the same with the other plot they had, they were up to something, and he hadn’t been able to get so much as a peak. They had one or two little kids around that were shrewd as foxes.
They talked for a while, passing pleasantries and Bai generally buttering Thawain until Bai could see Thawain’s cheeks taking on a slight red hue. Perfect.
“Thawain, I have heard many tales of Adam and his fights with the void beasts, but I still can’t figure out one thing. How is it that he is only level 13?” Bai said, trying his best-puzzled expression, which wasn’t hard.
Thawain looked from side to side and whispered, “He has spirit beasts, mighty, spirit beasts who can do practically anything. Unfortunately, although they may have gone now, Adam lost lots of his powers. He is still powerful, however. But I think he has come here to convalesce,” Thawain confided.
