Chapter 3: First Day of School

Chapter 3: First Day of School

1 EXT. Sidewalk – Morning

Me and Devi are walking to the Tokyo Bunkyo Spirit-Master high school. It is my first day ever going to school. I am actually sort of nervous. Why do I have such an uneasy feeling about today. Meanwhile, my brother is completely excited. It’s Devi’s first school day as a top 10 ranked Spirit Master.

Devi: This is the best. We can go to school together every day. Eat lunch in the cafeteria together. Have battles.

Dani: Yeah…

Devi: What is wrong? Aren’t you excited?

Dani: It’s just… I have never been to school. Like I told you, I was always homeschooled by dad.

Devi: Are you worried that you will not be able to keep up with the regular courses?

I have a feeling that the courses will be okay if this guy passed last year.

Dani: Well, not that, but… Okay, this might be unexpected, but I find it hard to be social.

Devi: No, that is totally what I expected actually.

Dani: I was always with my dad and we kept moving around to different countries. We never settled anywhere long enough for me to get to know people.

Devi: You will be fine. Just try to be nice to people. You can be quite blunt sometimes.

Dani: Okay.

Devi: I did not expect you to worry about stuff like that.

Dani: Who said I was worried?!

Devi: Either way, you have at least one friend already.

He means himself. Him saying that put a smile on my face.

2 EXT. School ground – Morning

We arrived at the school ground. It looks different from Friday. Nobody is using the battle zones now and the food stands are gone. It felt like a festival back then. Now it actually looks like what I imagined a school to be.

Dani: So, what does your day look like?

Devi: Mostly just classes. I also have a meeting with the student council president. I guess it’s a sort of inauguration to the top 10.

Dani: Really? What is he like?

Devi: He is very smart. Also, an amazing tactician in Spirit-master battles. He is even ranked third of the entire school.

Dani: Student council president and ranked third of the entire school. He sounds like a capable person.

Devi: He is.

Dani: Makes you wonder what the second and first ranked Spirit-Masters are like.

Devi: Well, those guys are on an entirely different level. Especially Sawamura senpai, the first ranked. He is so far ahead on the scoreboard that he does not even battle anymore. He says that there is no challenge left at this school. People have high hopes for him this year at the big tournaments.

Dani: I want to fight him. I haven’t fought since our battle.

Devi: Just challenge someone.

Dani: But wait, I have 0 points. Why would someone want to fight with me when I have nothing to bet?

Devi: You can fight another person with 0 points. When a person with 0 points loses, his opponent automatically gets 1 point. This rule was put into place so that people with 0 points still have a chance to compete. It is how all first years start out.

Dani: Okay, good to know. I got to bounce though. I have to report at the student desk. They will give me my schedule and guide me to my first class.

Devi: Good luck.

Dani: Don’t forget, at school my last name is not Kai, it is Ayami.

Devi: I know, calm down. But may I ask why you submitted mom’s last name?

Dani: Well Aki was the one who submitted that name, but it actually works out for the best.

Devi: How come?

Dani: Because everyone in this school is my opponent right now. The less information they have about me, the better. You have to keep your cards close to your chest.

Devi: Isn’t it just about who is the strongest? What is withholding information going to do?

He is really too naïve. The strongest person does not always win. There are many factors that come into play.

Dani: Every single advantage helps brother. Remember that. It might win you a battle someday.

Devi: I am just going to stick to my own philosophy. Always going all out. No regrets. Later!

It’s like talking to a brick wall.

Dani: See ya!

We both go our separate ways.

3 INT. Classroom – Morning

Almost all students from Clas 1-C have entered their classroom. Everybody is talking before the lesson commences. Sato, Enji and Himari are also in this class.

A group of 4 girls, including Himari, is sitting around a desk. A 5th girl walks into the classroom and joins their group.

Girl 5: Hey girls, listen up.

Girl 1: Good morning Mei. You barely made it in time for class. What were you doing?

Mei: I was just about to tell you. I forgot my calculator yesterday, so I went to the student desk to pick it up this morning.

Girl 2: That is so like you Mei.

The girls start laughing.

Mei: Wait, hear me out. When I was at the student desk to pick it up, there was an insanely handsome guy standing next to me. Totally my type!

Girl 1, 2, and 3: Really??

Mei: Yes! I had never seen him around before, but he was wearing our uniform.

Himari now looks up from her phone.

Himari (In her mind): A handsome guy in our uniform?

Girl 3: Ehh! Do you know what year he was in?

Mei: That is the best part! I overheard his conversation with the lady at the desk and apparently, he is transferring into our year today!

Girl 2: No way!

Girl 1: I hope he will come to our class!

Girl 3: Yeah, me too! The boys we have right now are just not it.

The girls start laughing when the door opens up and the teacher walks in.

Teacher: Alright guys, go to your seats.

Everyone hurries over to their seats and the class becomes quiet.

Teacher: Before we start with todays English lesson, I have 2 announcements. The first announcement is that your math teacher is sick, so you guys have the second hour off.

The entire class is cheering.

Teacher: Okay quiet down. The second announcement is that we have a new transfer student who will be joining your class as of today.

The girls start to giggle.

Teacher: Come in please.

As i walk into the room, Sato, Enji, Mei and Himari all instantly respond at the same time.

Sato (Angry): It’s you!

Enji (Sad): It’s you!

Mei (Happy): It’s you!

Himari (Surprised): It’s you!

Dani: Hello. My name is Dani Ayami. I will be joining your class as of today. Nice to meet you.

The class gets loud all of sudden. Everyone starts talking through each other. Some girls start playing with their hair. Enji falls with his head on the table as he remembers how I embarrassed him during Devi’s match. Sato and his friends ball their fists. Himari stares directly at me. I also hear random people saying all sorts of things to their neighbors.

Mei: He is so dreamy!

Sato: He has some nerve showing his face here.

Enji: Not this guy.

Random girl: Ayami? Does that mean he is the brother of Ayami Senpai?

Random guy: The 9th ranked Spirit-Master? He does look like him.

Teacher: Alright, settle down. Settle down! Dani does not have his books yet. Is anyone okay with sharing theirs for now?

All girls instantly raise their hand. Except for Himari, she just keeps staring. Does she not want me to sit next to her?

All girls (Except Himari): Me! Me! Me!

Teacher: Okay… Just sit wherever you feel like I guess.

I meet Himari’s gaze and walk towards the empty space next to her.

Dani: Hey. Do you mind sharing your book with me?

Himari: Uh… Sure, I owe you that much after last time.

I smile at her and sit down.

Himari: I thought you did not go to this school.

Dani: I do now.

Himari smiles back, but only for a second. Her smile quickly fades as she suddenly notices that all the girls in the class are staring at her angrily.

Teacher: Okay everyone, focus on me now. It is time to start with your English lesson. We will start with a hard one. Who can translate the 5th sentence?

Everybody keeps silent. It is quite easy, but I do not want to immediately start showing off.

Teacher: Come on. No one?

The entire class remains silent. People are ducking to avoid being picked.

Teacher: Okay, then I will just pick someone.

On second thought, I will be helping people by answering if they do not want to be picked. I raise my hand.

Teacher: Yes, Dani. Give it a go.

I proceed to translate the sentence perfectly with the correct pronunciation.

Teacher: That was wonderful! You sound like a native speaker.

Dani: I actually lived in England for a year, but I just happened to know this one. There is still much room for improvement.

Random girl: England? That is so cool!

Random girl 2: And he is so humble about it too!

Sato is getting visibly agitated. He whispers to his neighbour.

Sato (Whispering): Who does that guy think he is? Sitting next to my Himari chan. Showing off like that. After class I am going to teach him a lesson.

4 INT. Student Council Office – Morning

Devi enters the office of the student council.

Devi: Sorry for intruding.

Student council president: Enter.

Devi enters the room. In front of him is a very mature-looking, slick student with glasses.

Devi: Ah Sakamoto senpai! It has been a long time.

Student council president: Yes. It has been quite some time since you harassed me over battles.

Devi: Don’t call it harassment Sakamoto senpai! Anyway, why did you want to see me?

Student council president: I have seen your battle with Suzaku san.

Devi: You saw it?

Student council president: Yes, there are cameras installed at every battle zone on school property. Whenever someone on this ground is battling, it is displayed on the monitors behind me.

Devi: That is so cool.

Student council president: Anyway, I wanted to congratulate you with your victory.

Devi: You called me for that? That is so nice Sakamoto senpai.

Student council president: That was just a formality, it was not the actual reason that I called you in.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

Devi: Oh…

Student council president: The actual reason was to give you a proposal.

Devi: Sure, shoot!

Student council president: I wanted to ask you to renounce your place in the top 10.

Devi: Haha what?

Student council president: Precisely what I just said.

Devi: I don’t understand. Why would I do that? I won all my points fair and square.

Student council president: Correct. I therefore sincerely hope for you to be part of our schools top 10 in the upcoming year. Sadly, I think it is too early for you now.

Devi: I still don’t understand. You are forcing me to step down?

Student council president: Allow me to elaborate. I cannot force you to step down, but I strongly suggest it. The fact of the matter is that I want what is best for our school. What is best for our school is for our school to advance as far as possible in both the winter and the summer tournament. Frankly, I do not think that you will be able to aid us in obtaining that goal just yet.

Devi: What makes you think that? Except for number 1, you have all only reached the top 10 in your 3rd year when the previous guys graduated. I have already caught up to you in my second year.

Student council president: That is irrelevant.

Devi: Then what is the reason? Is it because I have another year left and I am taking the place of a 3rd year who has his final chance of participating in one of the big tournaments?

Student council president: It is true that because of your win, the 3rd year Ojiro san has lost his spot in the top 10. However, that is also irrelevant to me. Personally, I don’t care that you are a second-year student, and I care even less about Ojiro san’s ambitions. I only care about results.

Devi: That seems a bit contradictory since I have booked the result to be in the position that I am.

Student council president: I am not denying your potential. I just think that for the upcoming winter tournament, Ojiro-san is the better choice. He has more experience and knows what is best for the school. He is the safer option.

Devi: Well, I also want what is best for the school, and I believe that it is best that the legitimate top 10 participates. I wholeheartedly believe that, even if it is not me. If Ojiro senpai or anyone at this school thinks they are better suited for the job. They have until winter to take my position from me. I will not shy away from challenges.

Student council president: You seem to be misunderstanding me. You know that our school has never gone beyond the prefectural round. Now with someone as strong as Sawamura-san as our number 1, we have a big chance of advancing. I want everyone on the top 10 to make his advancement their priority.

Devi: How can the rest of the top 10 influence Sawamura senpai’s advancement? Are we not competing amongst each other as well?

Student council president: That is exactly where you are wrong. If you think anyone from our school has a chance of advancing besides Sawamura-san then you are gravely mistaken. The competition in the Tokyo prefecture is one of the toughest out there. We go to the tournament as a team and help our number 1 to get as far as possible in any way we can. Especially when one of us comes to face him. Ojiro-san understands this, you do not.

Devi: You are right. I do not understand that. I will never resign from a match to help someone else’s chances. In fact, if me and Sawamura senpai face each other, then I will do anything in my power to win. You can count on that.

5 INT. Classroom – Morning

My first class is just about to end. I think I kept myself lowkey enough.

Teacher: Alright, that is enough for today. Read chapter 3 as your homework assignment.

The bell rings. Suddenly the entire class swarms my desk. Did I do something wrong?

Random guy: Hey, is it true? Are you really the brother of Ayami senpai?

Oh, that is right. I forgot that people actually sort of admire my brother here.

Dani: I guess.

Sato comes walking over from the back of classroom. He pushes people to the side and gets all up in my face.

Sato: Big deal! Have you not seen that guy fight? His magic ability is even lower than the average first year student.

Mei: Sato! Don’t be a jerk. That is his brother you are talking about.

Sato: What? Am I not allowed to tell the truth? Only his spirit is strong. I could beat that guy.

I get a grin on my face. I recognize this guy from Friday. He was harassing Himari. Apparently, he is quite the hothead. Plus, he seems to dislike me. This gives me an idea.

He turns his back to me and starts walking away.

Dani: You beating my brother? You could probably not even beat me.

He pauses for a second. Then he turns around and grabs me by my collar.

Sato: What did you say?! How dare you.

Dani: You don’t look strong to me.

Sato: WHAT?! Do you even know who I am? You are not even worthy to be in my presence. I…

Himari interrupts him.

Himari: Sato cut it out!

Sato: Himari chan… Are you really sticking up for this clown?

Dani: Surely there must be a way to settle this.

If he says the words right now, then it is done. Say it!

Sato: There is! We have the next period off. You and me. We have a battle outside. The loser has to shave his head.

Mei: NOOOO not his beautiful hair.

Yes. It was you who brought it up. If I judge your character correctly, you are unable to back out now.

Dani: Sure. But I also have a condition.

Sato: What?

Dani: We both bet all of our points.

Sato: That is ridiculous! I have more than 100 points while you have 0.

Dani: Are you afraid you might lose?

Sato: There is no way I will lose to you.

Dani: If there is no way you will lose then what does it matter how much points you bet. Even if I had one million points, I would easily bet them all if I were certain of my victory.

Sato: I-

Dani: I understand if you are too scared. We can call it off if you admit that.

I am keeping a straight face but internally I am smiling. His ego is too big to ever admit that.

Sato keeps silent for a while. The entire class awaits his response.

Sato: Fine. Follow me outside.

Sato storms off and the whole class cheeringly follows him.

Mei: Sato, if you shave his head, I will kill you!

I am about to follow them when Himari pulls me aside.

Himari: Are you sure about this? Despite how he acts. He is actually a really good battler. He is ranked the highest from all first-year students.

She seems worried about me. I should reassure her.

Dani: Don’t worry. I have zero points so I can lose nothing right?

Not like there is a chance in hell I would lose to him.

We leave the classroom together.

6 INT. Student Council Office – Morning

Devi and the student council president are at a stalemate.

Student council president: I see that it will be pointless to continue this conversation as you cannot be persuaded to resign voluntarily.

Devi: I suppose it is.

Student council president: I hope you bear no animosity towards me. I was merely acting as how I found just as the student council president.

Devi: The opposite. I only have the urge to proof you wrong now.

Student council president: You certainly possess the right mentality. I will at least give you that. I am curious as to what drives you.

Devi: Well, I was always motivated, but recently I gained something that pushes me even further.

Student council president: May I ask what?

Devi: You will see for yourself soon enough.

Suddenly a bleeping sound can be heard from behind the student council president.

Devi: What was that?

Student council president: That is an indication that two battlers have checked in at a battle zone.

The student councel president checks on the monitor.

Student council president: Oh my! This is quite odd.

Devi: What is it?

Student council president: There seem to be two first year students about to engage in a battle.

Devi: What is odd about that?

Student council president: One of the students has wagered 121 points while the other student has wagered 0 points. I wonder what would drive one to take such a risk without a possible reward.

Devi: That is weird. And that is saying something when it is coming from me.

Student council president: I guess he has a good reason for his confidence though. We have been monitoring this student’s battles, because of his family name. He is quite gifted. I do not recognize his opponent though.

Devi: Can I look?

Student council president: I will put it on the big screen.

The student council president puts the battle on the big screen so Devi can watch it. He then catches on who is battling.

Devi: Wait… Is that… DANI!

Student council president: You know him?

Devi: Uh… yeah, he is my brother actually.

Student council president: You have a brother that goes to this school? That is usually not something I would be unaware off. I went through every first-years file at the start of the year.

Devi: Well, the thing is. This is his first day. He used to live with his father, but he transferred into this school when he moved in with me and my mother.

Student council president: Interesting. He is quite eager on his first day then. Second hour even.

Devi: Well yeah, that sound like him alright. Anyway, if we have nothing left to discuss I might as well go have a look. Later senpai.

7 INT. Hallway of school – Morning

Devi runs out the door and through the hallway.

Devi: Phew… I almost said too much back there. What are you getting yourself into Dani?

8 EXT. Battle zone at school ground – Morning

Devi arrives at the battle zone.

Me and Sato have already entered the field. We are about to commence our battle when I hear someone calling out to me.

Devi: Dani!

I look over to my left. It is Devi. I did not expect him to come watch me.

Dani: Yo, what are you doing here? I thought you had that meeting.

Devi: Yeah, we quickly ran out of things to say, I guess.

My classmates notice Devi. They start whispering to each other.

Mei (Whispering): Isn’t that the number 9? Ayami senpai?

Random girl 1 (Whispering): He is probably here to cheer on Dani.

Random girl 2 (Whispering): So, they really are brothers.

Mei (To herself): They are both so handsome. No! I have already chosen Dani. Sorry Senpai, I cannot answer your love.

Random Guy: On what planet is she right now?

Devi approaches the field.

Devi: What is going on here?

Dani: Just a battle, like you said. A good way to break the ice with my new classmate.

Devi: You stealing all his points is a good way to break the ice?

Sato interrupts our conversation.

Sato: Are you done talking? I want to quickly find out how a bald head looks on you.

Devi: Good luck!

Devi leaves the field and I get in position.

Dani: Ready when you are.

Sato: Let’s do this!

Our battle commences. Sato materializes his spirit from his wristband. A plant-like spirit appears before me. Well, his body is shaped like a plant, but his back is completely covered in spikes and his arms are like vines with sharp claws on them. It has a strong aura.

Devi (In his mind): A grass type spirit. It looks strong but it is a good match-up for Grimm. He’s got this!

Dani: Interesting. My turn.

I materialize my spirit from my ring. As it is revealed, the crowd reacts excited. Except for Devi who is surprised. Well, I cannot blame him.

Random guy: That’s a cool looking spirit.

Random girl: It totally matches his master.

Devi: I don’t understand.

Before me stands a black wolf-like spirit. Devi probably expected Grimm to come out. This is Luna. Don’t worry brother. This one is strong enough.

Sato: I’ll kick it off. Vina attack!

Vina lashes her vine-like arms back and then uses them as whips to attack.

I should be careful of the blades at the end. Since she is a plant type, it is possible they are poisoned as well.

Luna responds by splitting herself in 5 copies. They all dodge the vines and scatter across the field.

Sato: Clones huh? That won’t fool us.

Vina lets her vines hang loose and starts turning with rapid motions. Her vines are lashing out at random places making it dangerous to be near it.

All 5 Luna’s charge at the spinning Vina. 4 of them proceed to take a hit and vanish upon contact. The final Luna is close to biting Vina as Sato quickly uses his magic to form a whip within his own hands.

Sato: I don’t think so.

Sato swats at the final Luna clone but when he hits it, it also vanishes. Vina stops spinning.

Sato: Huh?

With both Sato and his spirit in confusion, it is the perfect time to strike. Suddenly a shadow portal appears in the sky and Luna jumps out. Her teeth get covered in dark shadows and she uses a strong bite attack on Vina. It dealt serious damage.

Sato: Oh no!

I decide to make the most of their confusion.

Dani: Luna, finish it!

Luna starts charging a ball of dark matter in her mouth. She shoots it towards Vina. Vina has no time to move out the way.

Sato: Vina, block it with your vine.

Vina lifts her vine up to block the attack. The vine hardens to soften the blow. As the dark-matter ball almost clashes with Vina’s hardened vine, her arm suddenly drops to the ground. It directly hits on Vina’s face.

I knew she was going to block it. I quickly charged a sharp piece of ice and shot it at her, cutting of her arm.

As Luna’s attack directly hits her face, Vina de-materializes back into Sato’s wristband.

Sato: I… lost? This fast…

Sato falls to the ground.

Sato: No. I refuse. I cannot lose to you. I am not weak.

He gets back up and starts charging towards me. Luna wants to jump between us, but I signal to her that there is no need.

Sato forms the whip back in his hand and lashes at me. I completely incinerate it using fire magic. I then proceed to form a circle of fire around us.

Dani: I think it would be wise to stop.

Sato: Shut up!

Dani: I was just warning you.

Sato: SHUT UP! I can’t disgrace my family name like this. I need to at least get one hit in. No matter what.

Tree bark starts to cover his entire body and arms like he is wearing armor while wielding two maces. Rose thorns begin to grow out of them. He charges at me with both his arms in the air, ready to strike me down.

As he is within swinging range, the ground around my feet starts to freeze. The ice spreads to his feet and then to the rest of his body. Within no time he is completely covered in Ice.

Dani: He is incapable of battle, so I win, I guess.

The whole audience is completely in disbelief. After a moment of silence, they begin to cheer.

Devi is most surprised of all.

Devi (In his mind): I knew he was stronger than me, but how big is the gap between us exactly?

I defrost Sato using fire magic. He ran straight out of the school grounds and did not return for the rest of the day. This win has gained me my first 121 points. I am now the highest ranked first-year student.

9 INT. Student Council Office – Morning

The student president stares at the screen where the battle has just ended. He uses the remote to turn it off. He turns around on his chair and sits with his hands folded on his desk. He thinks of the words Devi spoke earlier: ‘You will see for yourself soon enough.’

Student president (To himself): Interesting.

10 EXT. Sidewalk – Afternoon

My first school day has ended. I am walking home together with Devi. He seems like he is deep in thought about something. Did something happen to him today?

Dani: Are you okay? It is not like you to be this quiet.

Devi: Oh, sorry.

Dani: What did the student council president say to you?

Devi: Oh, you know. He wanted to congratulate me.

Devi immediately looks down at the ground. We both get quiet again. I wonder what happened to him.

Devi: Some battle this morning.

Dani: It was nothing really.

Devi: Nothing… huh. Can I ask a question?

Dani: Sure, I might not answer it though.

Devi: Why didn’t you use Grimm today? He would have been a perfect match-up for Vina.

Dani: The same reason as why I use your last name at school. I like to keep my cards close to my chest.

Why would I reveal my strongest spirit if this one was enough to do the job? I’m saving Grimm for when I absolutely need him. This way no-one can gather any data on him.

Devi: Is that really necessary?

Dani: Definitely. Everyone in the school is an opponent. Even outside of school. On Friday when you had your battle. I saw students from different schools. They were scouting. With the ranking system and the big tournaments coming up, everyone is trying to gain an advantage on each other. The later that I have to use my trump card, the better.

Devi (In his mind): Both Dani and the student council president think the same. They are plotting and scheming to improve their chances. What about being the better battler? Isn’t that what it is all about?

Devi: You really thought this through huh. Still, who would’ve thought you had a contract with another strong spirit.

Dani: This is my weakest one actually.

Devi: What do you mean?

Dani: From all my spirits.

Devi: Wait… You have more than two.

Damn, I said too much.

Dani: Maybe.

Devi: Come on, show me!

Dani: Can’t do.

Devi: Why not?

Dani: I don’t think you understood me earlier.

Devi: What do you mean?

Dani: When I said everyone in the school is my opponent. I meant you as well.

Devi stops walking.

Devi: You are joking right? I am your brother.

Dani: You are, but you are also a possible opponent.

Devi: You even showed me Grimm already.

Dani: That means you already have a big advantage.

Besides, that was before I decided to enlist in this school. I thought I would just leave after that battle but now there is a possibility that I might face him.

Devi: Does this mean that you will stop training me as well? Since it will give me an advantage.

Dani: No, I promised I would help you improve on your magic and I will keep my word, but I am not going to expose my own weaknesses to you.

Devi: What about our re-match?

Dani: I will not battle with you anymore. I will train with my own spirits separately from you.

Devi: I thought you said you enjoyed the battle between Pyro and Grimm. Was that a lie?

Is he offended right now?

Dani: It is not about enjoyment. It is all about winning. This is simply the path that has the highest probability to result in me never losing a single battle in my life.

Devi: I honestly thought that I was starting to understand you, but right now, you are not making any sense to me at all. What the hell does it matter if you lose. Everyone loses sometimes.

I remember dad saying something similar in the hospital. I said then and there that I would never lose. I promised to dad and I am going to stick to that.

Dani: Sorry, this is the path that I have chosen.

4 INT. Ayami house – Afternoon

We return to their house but as soon as we enter, Devi runs upstairs.

Aki comes walking into the hallway.

Dani: We’re home.

Aki: Welcome home boys.

She notices that Devi is going upstairs.

Aki: What is wrong with him?

I lift my shoulders to feign ignorance. It is not like I do exactly know what is wrong with him, but I get the feeling it has something to do with me.

Aki looks up the stairwell with a concerned look on her face.

5 INT. Devi’s room – Afternoon

Devi is laying on the bed inside of his room. While his head is buried in the pillow, he has an inner monologue with himself.

Devi (In his head): I don’t get him. Does he really see me as nothing more than an opponent? I thought we were friends already.

Why does he fixate on winning so much? I also want to win, but in the end, I just want to have fun.

Although… I have to admit, I was kind of jealous seeing him battle. His skills were amazing. He is levels above me and then I have the audacity to lecture him about his approach. What the hell do I know?

Maybe I am doing it all wrong and is his way of thinking right. That could be what it takes to become the best. Maybe the student council president is right… Should I change my approach?

No! I am overthinking this. It is not that strange for him to be competitive with me. Who says we can’t be brothers but also rivals? Yes. Rivals. He just wants to stay ahead of me, and I want to beat him too. It means he takes me serious as a Spirit-Master, so it is actually a compliment. Maybe he is saving Grimm for our re-match. Yes, that must be it!

Besides, he is still going to help me with my magic. I guess I overreacted today. The student council president probably got to me a little bit. I will act normal again tomorrow.

I am sorry Dani! I respect your decision. Me and Pyro will patiently wait for our re-match.
