Rin steps outside his house and surveys his surroundings for any sign of danger. After a little while of looking around, he notices green snails crawling around his house. He walks around the house and counts 3 of them, each on different sides.
They look like regular snails except they are the size of a basketball and they have around 10 small tentacles protruding from their body.
A sticky green liquid is left behind the snails’ trail. Rin assumes that the liquid is toxic simply based on its green color. He has no way to test this since he doesn’t want to risk touching the liquid himself.
The snails look like they might have a few tricks up their sleeves to fight off enemies so Rin doesn’t want to aggravate them. Maybe they’ll shoot toxic at him or maybe they’ll explode into a toxic paste? They don’t seem to be aggressive anyway so he decides to leave them alone for now.
His closest neighbor is quite a distance away to the east of his house. He turns to survey in that direction and sees movements in that area. There are creatures that look like blue-skin humanoids but Rin couldn’t make out the details from this distance. He made a mental note to get binoculars whenever he can, he imagines that they would become handy.
The blue-skinned humanoids weren’t doing anything important. It seems they have occupied the house and are patrolling around it. From what Rin can see, there are two creatures outside but he has no idea how many are inside if there are any.
A low growl is heard from deep within the dark depth that is otherwise known as Rin’s stomach. He forgot that he had not eaten yet. After making himself a simple meal, he decides on his next move.
For now, his goal is to go to town to find some people and get some supplies. He has no idea what else he should grab besides a binocular and some preserved food but he chooses to figure it out as he goes.
He could just ride his electric bicycle and head straight to town but he wants to gain some levels just in case there are strong monsters there, so he will fight monsters on the way. The blue humanoids are his first target.
First, he needs more info about them. He doesn’t even know what they look like, so he needs to get closer to observe their features and their behavior. Second, he has no clue what their numbers are so he needs to somehow figure that out as well. If there are too many or if they look too strong, he would avoid them.
Virllam is quite an open space. There isn’t much to obscure anyone’s vision so anybody can see decently far, making it difficult to sneak up on anyone. Luckily, his neighbor has a field of corn behind their house. Rin plans to sneak into the cornfield to spy on the blue creatures.
Before leaving Rin decides to take the club with him, the same club that the goblin used. He had decided to keep it because the club may be more practical than the knife in certain situations. It’s always good to have more options after all.

Rin heads out to the cornfield with his knife in one hand and the club in another. Instead of beaming straight for the cornfield, he walks around to avoid being detected. He also considered that there may be monsters occupying the cornfield since it's a decent place for hiding so he only walks on the outskirts of the cornfield to avoid any trouble. After 10 minutes of careful sneaking, the house is finally within his sights.
The blue-skinned creatures turned out to be bipedal frogs. They are the same height as the goblin but their arms and legs are very skinny. It doesn’t look like they can deal any real damage with their build but Rin doesn’t want to underestimate them lest he makes a fool of himself.
Their preferred weapon is the spear, at least from what Rin can tell from the two frogs outside. Their spears are a little over 1 meter long and have a primitive look with a sharp stone connected to the tip of a wooden stick. They also carry baskets on their back, similar to a backpack.
After analyzing the frogs, Rin wagers that he can take them on.
‘They look weaker than the goblin. I can probably one-shot them with a knife to the throat. I’m still worried about any reinforcements in the house but I can always make a run for it if need be. Their legs are skinny after all, I doubt they can outrun me.’
The two frogs are moving counterclockwise every 5 minutes around the house. They don’t patrol shoulder to shoulder. Instead, there is always a 10-meter gap between them to cover a little more ground but close enough for them to alert one another in case of an intruder.
Rin steels his resolve before he makes a move. The goblin surprised him before but this time he is going to take the initiative. He needs to be decisive in order to grow stronger.
Rin waits until the frogs are at the front of the house. Then, he places the club on the ground and moves closer to the house, hugging the wall as he moves counterclockwise. He is now on the right side of the house while the frogs are still at the front. The time for the frogs to rotate has come and their backs are now facing toward Rin.
Using this opportunity, Rin runs up to the nearest frog and stabs it in the throat. The frog was caught by surprise so it could not alert its companion. Rin pulls out the knife. However, the body made a thud when it hit the ground, grabbing the second frog’s attention.
The second frog turns around to see his companion bleeding out on the floor while a human stands above its body. Seeing this, the frog screams towards the house, probably alerting his other companions.
‘Crap. There were others in the house after all.’
Rin shifts the knife to his left hand and picks up the spear dropped by the first frog. He charges toward the frog and the frog also charges at him.
When they finally reach within distance, both of them strike with their spear. What the frog forgot to consider is that it is shorter than the human. Therefore, its arms were shorter as well so it couldn’t reach Rin.
Rin strikes with the spear using one hand, trying to keep as much distance as he could from the fog so its spear does not touch him. He pierces the frog’s head and it squirms on the ground. After a couple of seconds, Rin receives a notification.
