The spider, much bigger than the rest, began to stand upon its eight legs, awakening from its sleep. Its eight red eyes glimmered in the pale light of the glowing cobwebs that stretched across the walls. The hairs sitting atop the spider's chitin skin shook from the loud bang of the stone door hitting the ground.
It was almost majestic, having a beautiful brown and black pattern that made the spider have a sort of elegance. It was a sight that one shouldn’t miss, but some would not be able to stand the sight of such a large arachnid.
Kiara and Liz trembled, staring at the giant spider that loomed almost six meters in height. Their minds raced with frightful thoughts as the spider looked at them, seemingly sensing their fear.
Everyone else stood on guard, swords in their hands, prepared to attack at a moment's notice.
The spider did not move and neither did the small group. Nobody felt like moving an inch. Both the spider and the group stood watching each other, almost like a standoff. They both waited, looking for the opponent to make a move, but nobody did.
Suddenly, at almost the same time, the spider and Lex both moved their legs, preparing to charge. Lex burst forward along with the spider, while everyone else followed suit.
The spider's legs stomped against the ground as it charged at the small figures. In less than a moment, both Lex and the spider stood next to each other, preparing their first attacks.
A silk projectile shot out from the spider's spinneret, quickly approaching Lex, looking to finish him before the fight even started. It shot at speeds much quicker than the tentacles from the monster they had fought previously. Fortunately, Lex had advanced not long ago, so his reaction time and speed were higher than before.
He stepped to the left, parrying the silk with his sword and swinging it directly into the front leg of the spider. The metal clang against the spider's leg, bouncing off without even penetrating. Its legs were strong, much stronger then Lex had anticipated.
Winston followed behind Lex with another attack, not giving the spider a chance to counter attack. As his sword approached the spot Lex had hit, the spider's leg hastily moved out of the way, causing Winston to miss his attack.
If I can’t hurt its legs, then what about its abdomen? Lex quickly followed up with a quick attack, slicing upwards from under the spider.
Just before Lex was able to make contact, the spider jumped into the air, evading his sword. It then quickly fell back down to the floor, looking to squash Lex directly beneath itself.
With quick thinking, Lex rolled out of the way of the spider’s body, but he wasn’t able to move far enough away as one of the spider's arms came falling down towards him. The end of its arm was sharper than a normal spiders, and with ease could impale a human if given the chance.
Quinn tackled Lex out of the way right before the arm could land. The arachnid's arm slammed to the floor, creating a crack that ripped across the ground.
Lex turned towards Quinn, fearing he may have been hurt just how he got hurt by the tentacle back in the tenth layer, but had calmed down after seeing Quinn wasn’t even scratched.
“Have a little more faith in me, won’t you?” Quinn quipped as he pulled Lex up from the floor.
Cally and Alec were next to attack the spider. They barreled towards the monsters with their weapons in hand as they planned to attack it at the same time. They both swung at the same time, aiming for the spider's leg, but after making contact, their swords simply bounced off. It was the same as when Lex tried, unable to penetrate through the spider's strong chitin.
They both took a step back trying to get out of the spider’s range, but before Cally could move far enough away, the spider's leg approached her with a wide kick. Just before the leg reached her, Winston had used his overwhelming power to jump into the air and slam the spider into the ground.
The spider fell to a crash, cracking the floor beneath its body and letting out a groan as its deep red eyes rolled into the back of its head from the damage it sustained.
It had been weakened, giving a window of opportunity that only Winston could have provided. Winston sat on the spiders back, pinning its giant body down as best as he could.
“Attack its head, while it is weak.” Kiara and Liz had joined the fight, listening to Winston’s words as they followed his directions.
Liz was the first person to run in, still in fear of the giant spider that laid before her, but knowing what had to be done in order to pass the current layer. Kiara also followed quickly behind her, preparing for a follow up attack in case Liz’s blow didn’t fully finish the spider off.
For some unknown reason, Quinn felt uneasy about the current situation. Could it really be this easy? Did the spider just have such a major weakness that caused it to lose so quickly?
Quinn watched the spider as Liz ran closer and closer. He watched its arms, its body, the hairs that stood on end similar to a cat, and finally he watched the eyes.
He looked far into the spider's deep red eyes, watching them as Liz continued to approach. For a second, he also looked down, staring at the two fangs that protruded from the giant arachnid's mouth. In that moment, he realized something he should have realized before, but was unable to during the heat of the battle.
The mouth of the spider was in an upwards position, as if it were in the shape of a smile. A piece of saliva dripped from the spider's mouth, falling to the ground.
Quinn looked in fear, realizing that the spider was intelligent, even more intelligent then the void beast from before.

In an attempt to save Liz, he yelled across the room, hoping she would be able to react in time, “Liz step back, it is only tricking you!”
Quinn’s words fell on deaf ears as she was unable to hear him in this desperate situation. The eyes of the spider rolled back into their original position as Liz approached, staring at the girl that was running directly to it. The smile of the spider grew bigger as the girl had run quickly into its territory, right where it wanted her to go.
Quinn pushed his legs as hard as he could, trying desperately to save Liz, but he was incapable of running quick enough. As if time slowed down, he watched the scene that unfolded in front of him in slow motion, incapable of doing anything to change it.
The spider whipped its abdomen up into the air causing Winston to go flying into the back wall. The spider's mouth dripped with even more saliva as it quickly lunged head first at the girl that approached it. Liz stared in disbelief, watching as the spider had jumped towards her. The face she made, the shock in her eyes and the haunted look she made after realizing what had occurred would forever be etched into Quinn’s brain.
With its sharp fangs, the spider grabbed onto the girl's frail body and clasped down as hard as it could, gripping onto her as she let out screams of terror. The spider waved her body like a ragdoll in its fangs, whipping her back and forth like a dog with a chew toy. Her terror stricken face could be seen by everybody as the spider tore her to shreds. It ripped her body in half, sending the top half of her body plummeting towards Quinn’s feet, and the other into the back wall, ripping the red webs and splattering the wall with blood before plummeting beside Winston.
“L… Liz?” Lex’s voice was filled with horror as he fell to the ground beside Quinn and lifted up Liz’s upper torso. At that moment, Quinn felt like throwing up. He couldn't bear the stress, terror and anxiety that was beginning to build inside of him.
Lex lifted up Liz’s upper body, staring into her cloudy eyes that showed no sign of life. Blood poured from her mouth and from her ripped apart skin, soaking the floor and emitting an iron smell.
Tears began to well up in Lex’s eyes. They begin to pour to the floor, falling into the puddle of Liz’s blood. Lex let out a horrific and despair filled scream as he held her pale dead body.
Quinn watched the entire scene, trying to hold back emotions and remember what had been occurring. The spider that killed Liz was still on the loose.
Kiara watched the spider in front of her. Her arms were shaking and her sword did the same. The fear was almost corporeal around her as she stared at the spider that was slowly approaching her. She tried taking a step back, but fear had taken her legs from under her and she was not capable of moving.
The spider lifted an arm as it stood above her, watching with joy as its next victim shook in fear. The spider’s arm lowered at a quick pace, sending a slashing attack towards Kiara’s side. She was only able to watch as her impending death approached her.
Before the spider was able to make contact, Alec had grabbed her and jumped out of the way, but he wasn't able to avoid the attack completely. They both got sent tumbling to the ground, sliding against the side wall where Quinn and Lex were positioned.
Disappointed in itself, the monster looked towards the group of four sitting in the corner, but was quickly distracted when a sword slammed into its under body, impaling its abdomen.
Cally stood beneath it, rage filled her eyes as she shoved the sword further into the spider's abdomen, “Die you stupid monster!”
The spider looked down to spot a brown haired girl holding a sword in its torso. It let out a loud shriek, deafening Cally and sending blood dripping down her ear lobes. She looked up in horror to find the spider staring at her with a sharp, anger filled glance.
The spider raised its leg once again, aiming for Cally who stood directly underneath it. Cally tried to run, but her spine was shattered as the spider's sharp leg pierced through her. Her eyes filled with tears before the spider pulled out its leg and kicked her towards the four members of the group that stood in horror.
Cally’s dead body tumbled over and landed directly atop Liz’s upper body. The spider let out a loud rough laugh, mocking the group who cowered in the corner, unable to do anything.
Kiara fell backwards in fear seeing the two bodies of her companions piled in front of her. The disgust and horror the group felt couldn’t be explained, not in words, nor could it be spoken. There was no word to describe the feeling they felt as they stared at the dead bodies of their companions below them, just to look up and spot a no longer majestic, but hideous massive spider walking slowly towards them.
Kiara cried in fear and tears ran down Lex’s face for the loved ones he had just lost. Quinn and Alec stood watching the spider approach them, incapable of doing anything to save the people around them. They felt empty, hollow inside.
The spider stood above the group, looking down with a grin across its face. Its prey had piled up nicely together, making it much easier to cut it all up.
As the spider once again raised its arm, Quinn wondered where his life went wrong, how he made it to this mansion, and how he got here in the first place.
The spider sweeped its arm, attempting to cut everyone in half with one swing, but the only man who didn't give up stood in its way. It was the most experienced man, the person that was the strongest out of everyone.
Winston caught the spider's arm, holding it back with all the strength he could muster. His voice echoed throughout the minds of everyone when he yelled, “Run, make your way to the door and leave!”
Quinn’s senses returned to him and he looked around, spotting a door that he did not recognize before.
That must be the door to the next layer. If we can make it to that, we should be safe!
A fire began to pour out from Winston’s hands, consuming the arm of the spider he was holding tightly in his grasp. The spider tried to pull away, but the man would not let go of his grip.
As Winston fought toe to toe with the arachnid, Quinn and Alec had grabbed Lex and Kiara, pulling them away from where they stood. Lex tried ripping away from Alec’s grip, but he was unable to, “I can't leave Liz and Cally!”
Lex’s words did not matter to Alec as he continued to drag him away, pulling him closer and closer to the door. After reaching the door, Alec slapped Lex across the face, trying to snap him back to reality, “You can't save them… they're already dead. All you can do now is live.”
Lex paused for a moment before speaking through a face full of tears, “...You’re right. We need to get out of here.”
Alec and Lex joined Quinn and Kiara who had already begun trying to open the door. Behind them, Winston fought a battle they had never seen before. Winston climbed across the back of the spider and grabbed onto its neck, squeezing as hard as he could. Flames began to fill his hands, and the entire room burst into flames in attempts to incinerate the massive spider.
Lex looked behind as he lifted the door. He didn't want to leave Winston behind. Winston had been with him from the beginning, and letting him go didn't feel right.
As Winston tussled with the giant arachnid, he spotted Lex hesitating to leave, and in that moment, he yelled out as loud as he could in attempts to speak over the crackling fire and screeching spider, “Leave without me!”
Lex hesitated before looking back one last time, watching his savior. The group of four rolled under the massive door and jumped into the deep bottomless hole, fearful of where it would take them next.
