CHAPTER 86: DESTRUCTION OF THE PRISON AND THE COMPOUND (3)
Sweeping Curtis with his deep gaze, the prison leader smiled.
"It has come to my knowledge that aside from the wind hurricane movement spell that you have created yourself, you actually improvised another one, right?"
Curtis was taken by the question; he had no idea where the leader was going with this. However, in the end, he could only nod, weakly, in conformation. After all, he had indeed come up with a new spell, after a sudden insight. He was the one that spread the news of this spell, to increase his worth in the compound, in hope that the leader grants him magical cores, so that he can further advance his artifact, and choose to upgrade an offensive spell this time, to make up for his pathetic offensive means. Since he spread it, it was known by all, so, there was no point in denying.
Hearing the conformation, the leader's smile deepened, making him look like a devil that had just successfully entrapped his prey.
"I heard that you got the insight for this one from your defensive spell, wind barrier. I also heard that to cast this spell, you use your innate spell to manipulate the wind to form a thin isolating air barrier around you, to isolate all sounds. And from your own words, you said that this spell could even block your smell from leaking, thus hiding you from the sharp sense of smell that beasts have."
Hearing the leader speak in such tone, Curtis's hair stood on end. He still had no idea what the leader was going for, but he knew that it wasn't good thing, wasn't good thing at all…
"Curtis, since everyone knows, I trust that you too must have heard about the hive, you know, the ones located few kilometers to the north of the prison."
"Our first encounter with them ended up disastrously, primarily due to their sharp senses of smell, which allowed them to follow the attacking unit no matter where they escaped, up until they eradicate them. These beasts really have an otherworldly concept of territory…"
"You see Curtis, as long as the compound bastards still alive, we'll definitely suffer greatly in the future. The way I see it… before we finish off those bastards, we'll never be completely safe. As such, we have to make a move on them. And we have to take them down all in one go, this time." saying these words, a look of craziness flashed by the leaders face…
After hearing these words, and noticing the look, Curtis, who was very tense and frightened… actually relaxed.
In his heart, he laughed in a delight: 'Phew… stupid old man. You really gave me the fright of my life… To have that kind of viciousness in your eyes and to speak in such mysterious and terrifying tone… you really had me worry for a second there…"
The fear and nervousness in Curtis's heart vanished away, cunning thoughts started circling his mind: 'it seems that you haven't let go at all… in the end, this obsession of yours to kill the compound bastards will be your doom…!'
Truth be told, this meeting between the leader and Curtis was being monitored by one of the magicians in the prison. In turn, that man was conveying the content to the others.
Everyone in the prison feared the leader, and didn't want to go up against him. However, if he was to insist on his quest to take revenge on the compound people, and forces them to fight those people out to death… then, there'd be no choice for them but to go against him, and try to take him down and his brother.
The compound people were much stronger than they thought them to be… more ever, they had magical weapons and special grade artifact holder on their side.
In the end, even if they had the numerical advantage, so what… the compound side had better advantage than they did.
No one in the prison side wanted to fight those people again. The world was already dangerous enough for them as it is.

At first, they accepted to launch an attack because they thought that the compound people would go down with ease. However, since they prove to be tough bone to chew, the prison fighters changed their mind.
As such, every warrior and magician in the prison had his attention on this meeting.
They were propping the leader's intentions.
If he lets go of his quest of revenge, or at lease doesn't involve them in it, then, things would be fine, again.
However, if he insists on dragging them into another tragic fight with nothing to gain, then… they'd have no choice but to act against him… even though they hated the idea of fighting such powerful man.
This was the reason why Curtis was so delighted right now.
The leader's obsession with revenge will force the others to take extreme measures against him. Hence, there would be no reason for Curtis to fear the leader punishing him for his unsightly escape.
The slight ripple that came from the shadow hiding in the leader's office corner spiked Curtis's delight even further: 'It seems that the others have decided to act… Shitty old man, prepare to face death…"
The leader's expression remained the same, unchanged.
"hehe. Why are you acting so calm…? Could it be that you're so far gone in your anger that you can't even notice the scheme tailored for you…?'
On the other side, the leader maintained a still face, seemingly oblivious to the minor change in mood.
He appeared as though he was completely aware of everything happening around him. Showing an expression that says 'everything is progressing the way I want it to…'
Suddenly, the flashing craziness I the leader's eyes vanished like smoke: "Curtis, truth be told. I think that no one in the prison is capable of handling the compound bastards… hence; I've decided to end the matter here… From now on, there will be no attacking the compound. They have too many advantages to my liking. As such, throwing ourselves at them would only lead to mutual destruction… which is something stupid to do…"
"There is really nothing we can do against those bastards… that's what I honestly believe in… I have lost hope of ever eradicating this problem… it seems to me, that letting them grow in power and launch an attack on us is all what we can do…"
Hearing these words, Curtis suddenly felt cold in his heart, unexpectedly at a loss of words. His eyes widening in shock, he missed a breath, and just stood there, stunned.
The sudden shift in the leader's tone was out of the blue…
Just when the shadow hiding in the far corner grew restless, just when others were about to launch an all out attack at the leader, just when his fate was almost set in stone… he actually changed his stand 180 degree, in but a moment…
It wasn't only Curtis who was in trance, but the hiding shadow and others in the prison too.
The leader's eyes flashed with an ominous glow, as he casted Curtis a look of pity at Curtis, as though he was looking at a bug that was about to be stomped on.
"I had really thought that our situation was hopeless… that's until of course I heard about your splendid new created spell…"
"As you know, the bugs are so united, that if any of them is killed, these beasts would follow the killer and launch relentless attacks on him up until his death. Their sense of smell is so sharp that it can allow them to follow a target up to very long distances."
"… Now, Curtis, remember… we have accepted you here. We have provided you with safety… we have shared our very food with you, even though we didn't have to."
"Ever since I accepted you here, I knew that someday, you'll show your worth… that you will make a massive contribution for the prison residents… now, and luckily, the time has come… using that magnificent innovative spell of yours, you're the only one that can finish this matter between us and the compound, once and for all."
"Actually, all these bugs have is their sense of smell. All of their other senses are dull, almost none existent. So… if you were to use that spells of yours to draw a target mark at the compound, that would great and it'd solve our dilemma."
Bang!
Hearing these words, and understanding the implication behind them, Curtis's face became soulless, like a ghost. These words fell on him like a crackle of thunder, clapping next to his ears.
"This…"
"… You're isolating me from the rest…you bastard; this has been your plan all along…!"
Curtis's heart was thumbing so hard, it was about to explode. In actuality, and for the past two days, he was the one enticing and pushing the others to make a move at the leader, stirring them up to make use of the leader's unstable emotions and shock to finish him off.
The shadow lurking in the dark corner of the office was the contact channel. His job was to confirm the leader's decision, and give the signal for the attack.
Up until the leaders last shift of mind, things were going his way, everyone was preparing to storm this place and put an end to the leader.
However, just now, the leader gave the others the decision they wanted to hear. [There will be no attacking the compound, you are all safe.]
By saying so, he eliminated the reason for their attack.
Although this was merely his word, however, and judging by the fact that no one was storming this place, it was apparent that the others had accepted the leader's gesture.
Actually, in the first place, the prison fighters had a very thin will to attack a strong individual such as the leader. Hence, his confirmation alone was apparently enough to diffuse their will to attack.
Curtiss heart grew cold… the rug has been pulled from under him.
The leader's anger for losing his second son was beyond words. However, he was now using him to both come into terms with his forces, and to give a vent to his anger at the compound, and on him for being the first one to escape the fight.
In other words, the leader was telling the others that he will no longer force them to fight the compound. However, he was going to use him, Curtis, to deliver a deadly blow to the compound, to settle things for the prison as a whole.
Just like that, the leader regained his control, and turned things around.
Truth be told, the leader has been staying here in the office the whole time. So, he had no idea on what was going on outside. However, in the end, he was a Politian.
His very job was to trick others, to sell them empty words, and make them feel gratitude for him for doing so.
Right from the moment he called in Curtis, and noticed the shadow lurking in the corner, he had already pieced things together.
Truth be told, he knew that Curtis would most likely fail in luring the bugs into the compound, and die a miserable death. However, he did so to give a vent to his accumulated anger.
If he can't rail up the others to launch an attack, then he might as well use Curtis, the one who was scheming against him to blow some steam off, to calm his emotions.
