37. Excruciating Reluctance

37. Excruciating Reluctance

Kalos had been falling for days. Well, it felt like days.

His body ached all over, but at least his tongue stopped bleeding somehow.

His consciousness had slipped in and out for some time, but for the first time, he was fully awake.

“Ah, you’re finally awake.” A familiar, but detestable voice said.

Kalos turned his head to face the voice's owner. He then saw a strangely dressed woman with bright red eyes.

“Hello and welcome to my realm. The veiled repository. I’m working on something really big and I’d really like your help.” The woman who called herself Saya said.

Kalosýni’s eyes burnt with rage and hatred, but his body wouldn’t move as he fell.

“Ghi’m gonna ghill you!” Kalos screamed, even though his swollen tongue hurt so much when he did.

“Mmm? Why would you want to do that? You and I are like cosmic siblings. Oh and I’m technically your older sister, so show me some respect!” Saya said with a smirk.

“Also, killing an autarch is impossible.” Saya asked as a feint fuzzy sound filled the nothingness they were in.

“Ghi’m gonna ghill you!” Kalos screamed even louder as he slowly moved his arms toward Saya, but then the nothingness quickly vanished, revealing to Kalos a world of bright red chaos.

Screams and yells filled the air making Kalosýni’s ears ache.

He looked down and saw millions upon millions of humanoid creatures of different make.

They filled the land and even the ocean below as they tore each other apart.

“Behold my world and its subjects!” Saya yelled as they both descended.

“Everything Anton deemed unworthy in his eyes lives here and trust me if he were to see you. You’d most likely end up here too, so I did both of us a favour.” She said as Kalosýni’s body hurtled toward the ground.

Kalos closed his swollen eyes before hitting the cold wet ground. His body curled in pain as he saw an ocean of madness just beyond the cliff he rested on.

The denizens of Saya’s world parted as Saya landed near Kalosýni.

“I’ve scoured across all of space in my attempt to find the one capable of even cutting Anton, but I failed at every turn. Well… then I found you.” Saya said as she paced around Kalos, who could hear her even though the air was filled with screams. Strange creatures surrounded Saya and they all viciously yelled and barked at Kalos, who tried speaking but his mouth wouldn’t open.

“Oh! I forgot that you still use magic to do things.” Saya said before gently rubbing Kalosýni’s hair.

Kalosýni felt a massive shockwave of power as his magic returned to him.

He didn’t waste any time in healing himself. He then summoned all four of his Reu’s, grabbed them with all four of his arms and viciously attacked Saya.

Kalosýni’s eyes widened with terror as his Reu’s passed cleanly through her body with no real effect.

Yes, blood was spilt, but Saya’s realm took far more damage than she did.

Kalos pumped all the magic he had into his attacks, tearing the chaotic red realm into two as he did.

Saya noticed this and so she raised her hand, stopping Kalosýni’s movements.

“What are you doing?” Saya asked with a panicked face.

“We'll need that army later, you idiot!” Saya said as she looked behind her.

Saya’s face twisted as a gigantic crater tore that now sat in the dark realm.

Saya growled before turning to Kalos, who glared at her as he tried moving.

She narrowed her eyes as she walked over to Kalos before tapping him in the chest.

“Gah!” Kalos yelped as his magic was taken from him again. His hair returned to its normal black form and his eyes stopped glowing.

“Sorry, but you killed off a third of my army. Do you know how many worlds that is?” Saya asked as she paced around Kalos.

“Anyway. I might as well explain everything before things go even further out of hand.” Saya said before pointing at one of the Reu’s.

“I want you to create a weapon that can kill my son,” Saya said as she approached Kalos, who viciously tried biting her as his head was the only part of him which he could move.

“I know what you’re thinking and I did say that you cannot kill an autarch, but that’s what Anton thinks. You are special Kalosýni.” Saya said, but Kalos didn’t bother listening to her. All he wanted was to rip her to pieces.

“Mmm… looks like you don’t want to talk…” Saya said as black clouds flew above her.

“Mmm… what can I do to get you to help me. I can’t force you to create my weapon for me, so what will it be?” Saya asked.

Kalos reached out to touch her and finally reached her arm. He quickly grabbed her and bit her neck.

Kalos tasted fresh blood as he ripped into Saya’s flesh, but she didn’t make a sound.

“Are you an animal or something? Or do you want to experience the pleasure that comes with touching an autarch?” Saya asked as Kalos made his way to her spine.

Saya sighed before pushing Kalos away.

He spat out chunks of her flesh as she rapidly healed herself.

“You know, you’re lucky that you’re one of a kind. If anyone else had touched me the way you did, I’d have killed them instantly.” Saya said as her body returned to its previous state.

“Well, come on. What do you want? I’m starting to doubt whether you can actually speak at all.” Saya said with crossed arms.

Kalos continued to glare at her before she realised something.

“Oh! Are you upset that I killed some of your servants? Sorry, but they attacked me first.” Saya said making Kalos even angrier.

“Graaah!” Kalos roared.

Saya walked to the left as Kalosýni’s eyes precisely followed her movements. Then she moved to the right.

“Oh? So it is me that you want.” Saya said with narrowed eyes before raising her hand.

Kalos felt himself rise and Saya followed him.

They then flew toward a much darker side of the veiled repository.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

A place with dark mountains and fiery rain.

“Sorry, but I’d prefer if we did this in private,” Saya said as she descended towards a dark cave.

She then placed Kalos down deep within the cave, but the red light from the sky eerily lit the cave's interior.

“Now let me make one thing clear. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get you to take me my weapon. So let's get this over with.” Saya said as she removed her dark dress.

Kalosýni glared at her tall and full figure. She was almost as tall as he was and had long black hair. Her red eyes burnt brightly in the dark, but Kalos didn’t care.

Saya raised her hand, freeing Kalos.

Kalos squeezed his fists and felt that not even a drop of magic was left in his body, but he didn’t care. All he’d need were his fists and so he dashed towards Saya before tackling her to the floor.

He then punched her in the face several times before punching her in her chest, shattering her ribs with one strike.

Kalos may have lost his powers, but he was still the son of Raymond-

Kalos frowned before beating her chest inward as blood covered both him and Saya.

“Graaah!” Kalos yelled before grabbing her head and twisting it in an awkward direction.

A loud crack resounded throughout the cave as Saya’s bloody and limp body rested on the floor.

“You won’t be able to kill me. With or without magic. But I do need you to figure out how to kill an autarch at some point in all this.” Saya said with a clear voice as Kalos stood up.

Kalos kicked her in the face, dislodging her jaw and removing several of her teeth in the process.

Kalos then stomped on her face, but still couldn’t feel her dying. He couldn’t feel her life force at all.

Kalos then knelt over her body and started punching her again.

This went on for what felt like several hours, but Kalos didn’t stop. He wouldn’t stop until she was dead.

“Are you done?” Saya asked as Kalosýni’s punches slowed down.

“An autarch is a celestial creature. Our true bodies encompass the space between spaces. I need you to figure out how to cut that space.” Saya said before Kalos finally stopped hitting her.

Kalosýni’s choked on his anger as Saya’s body returned to its normal state. She waited as he groaned.

“It’s ok. Take your time.”

.

..

Some time passed in the dark cave and Kalos had finally stopped writhing.

“Are you done?” Saya asked as Kalos fell to the side. No tears fell even though he wanted them to and even though his aches had gradually subsided, the pain gnawing away at his chest was far too much to bear.

“Good. Now, I need you to use all you have to make my weapon.” Saya said as she got up. She the wore her dress before standing in front of Kalos.

“No,” Kalos said.

“Excuse me?” Saya asked as her face twisted into a disgusted frown.

“I said no,” Kalos said before Saya kicked him in the face sending his jaw, teeth and some of his brain flying off.

“You don’t get to decline after what you just did to me!” She yelled as Kalos lay limp on the floor.

“Oh my goodness! What have I done?” Saya asked as she knelt over Kalos.

She then gave him back his magical essence and roughly rocked him in her arms.

Kalos felt his magic return as darkness ate away at his consciousness.

“Heal yourself dammit!” Saya yelled, but Kalos didn’t cycle his magic through his body even though it used to do so naturally.

Kalos felt a coldness move over him.

It was so very cold yet so very gentle.

Kalos reached out to accept it before he heard the cutest, most precious sound he’d ever heard in his life.

“Keema…?” Kalos called out as he slowly cycled magic throughout his body. His bloodied hair slowly turned blue and his eyes glowed faintly in the cave.

His skull slowly healed as Saya panicked.

“Come on!” She said as Kalosýni’s body returned to its normal state.

Kalosýni then grabbed Saya by the neck, got up, summoned a Reu and stabbed her in the heart.

“Take me home,” Kalos hissed. Anger cracked his teeth as he clenched his jaw.

“I will! But only after you create my weapon.” Saya said.

Kalos sighed before letting Saya go.

Her body was stuck to the cave's wall, so she hung as Kalos paced around in the cave.

“I cannot kill you,” Kalos said with a defeated expression.

“I know, but I want you to figure out how to,” Saya said.

Kalos then stared at her as he thought.

He took a deep breath before nodding slowly.

“Yes!”

“But I’ll need to use you as a… stand-in for your son. Once I manage to make you feel pain, that’s when I create a full weapon.” Kalos said as he looked outside the cave in thought.

“That’s perfectly fine!” Saya said as she forcefully shoved her body out of Reu.

She approached Kalos, only to be punched in the face.

Saya hit the back of the cave with a splat.

“Hey! At least give me some warning.” Saya said as her body returned to normal.

Kalos lowered his head as he thought about the possibility of escape, but Saya blew off his head instantly so that wasn’t the right move to make. At least, not at this moment.

“You said something about being a stenographer. What does that mean?” Kalos asked as Saya cautiously walked up to him.

“I record everything. What was and is, all of it is etched onto my soul. I can’t see the future before you get any bright ideas.” Saya said, prompting Kalos to let out a pained chuckle.

“Me neither.”

“So as stenographer, aren’t you busy? I’m sure you have more important things to do than plot your son's demise.” Kalos asked.

“Why? Are you planning to escape?” Saya asked.

“No, not really. I’m just curious.” Kalos said as he turned to face her, revealing his eyes that burnt bright blue, once again.

“Well, I record everything automatically. I know that your name is Kalosýni Yulrun and… oh-" Saya stopped.

“Listen, I’m sorry about what I did to your friends.” Says said.

Kalos tried his best not to cut off Saya’s head as she spoke.

“But I really do need your help,” Saya said as she sat on the rather warm cave floor.

“Fine” Kalos asked as he sat in front of her.

.

..

Glass had finally gotten Keema to calm down.

He wiped his shiny forehead for no reason before walking out from Peeta’s arm.

Neeron and her elafriá friends had fully settled into the cave and they did their best not to disturb Peeta as they went about their business.

Peeta purred as Glass stretched his shiny limbs.

“Is he going somewhere again?” Neeron asked.

[Yes. Oh and I’m not sure if you can sense this, but a haevrul is on its way here. I hope you’re all competent fighters.]

Peeta said as Glass ran out of the cave.

“A haevrul?” One of the elafriá gasped as Peeta licked his giant paw.

“We’re really dead this time.” Another elafriá said.

“Calm down. We’ll just run away from it.” Neeron said, temporarily calming the elafriá.

[Running would be best. After all, the creature is after me.]

Peeta said.

“Oh? What makes you so sure.” Neeron asked before a deep darkness surrounded her.

It swallowed the entire cave before extending out toward the entire cliffside.

Peeta quickly reabsorbed his power before yawning.

“What the-" Neeron asked as the elafriá trembled.

[Yes. You’re looking at an eminence level being. Not that the title means anything anymore.]

Peeta said.

“Oh,” Neeron sounded as she sat idly by the campfire she and her group used.

Glass had a separate one he used for taking care of Estella and Keema.

Speaking of which, Glass ran through the thick forest and made his way northwest.

Peeta’s eyes were attached to those of Glass, so he could see.

However, if he were to run into a foe, Glass would be unable to gauge their strength if they were beyond the reach of Peeta’s sense.

Glass ran extremely quickly before noticing a group of humans and dark beings. They were in a heated battle, but Glass passed them as he made his way north.

He eventually made it to a hill where he could see Ianndor in the distance.

It looked like it was in shambles.

Yes, Kalos had created several places of shelter, but nothing could be done about the people inside the cities walls.

Would they work together to stave off their impending doom or would they fight among themselves as grief and rage overcame them?

Glass didn’t even pause to look at Ianndor as he made his way to the small patch of forest to the east.

He then noticed what looked like a woman standing by the forest's edge.

Peeta couldn’t tell, but Kalosýni’s barrier still stood even after all that happened, so the woman must have been trying to get into the forest.

Glass ran over to her before quickly coming to a stop about five meters from her.

The woman turned around, revealing that she had pale grey skin and two antennae-like structures above her head.

Glass held his chest for some reason before the woman who was clearly a saepenar lashed out towards him. Unfortunately for her, Glass had been feeding off of Peeta’s darkness for some time, so he had far more power than she did.

The saepenar ran toward Glass who summoned his Eexel and quickly decapitated the saepenar in an instant.

Glass then looked at the saepenar’s corpse.

[No.]

Peeta said as Glass knelt over the saepenar’s body.

[I said no, dammit!]

Peeta yelled as Glass dug into the saepenar’s flesh with his razor-sharp fingernails.

Glass proceeded to eat the saepenar and not five minutes passed before he was finished.

[You didn't even need the extra energy, sicko!]

Peeta yelled.

Glass then ran into the forest before running into Kalosýni’s barrier where he saw a gruesome sight.

He slowly walked over to the carriage where he grabbed a shovel.

He then dug three graves alongside Kalnae’s one before walking over to where Raymond’s body was.

Thanks to the conditions within Kalosýni’s barrier, Raymond’s body hadn’t decayed as much as it would have, had it been out in the snow.

Glass fell to his knees and stayed there for a moment before getting up and carrying Raymond to his grave.

Glass gently placed him inside before doing the same for Crimwal and Eevana.

Glass covered their graves before looking to the sky.

Even during his days as a knight, Peeta never once prayed to Eirini, but Glass fell to his knees and held his hands together.

[Kalos… I’m so very sorry.]

Peeta said before Glass got up.

He looked at the horses in front of the carriage and saw them lazily eating the grass that grew perfectly in Kalosýni’s barrier.

He then walked over to the driver’s seat, hopped on and led the carriage south.

There were some things Estella and Keema needed that Peeta couldn’t provide, so Peeta ordered Glass to bring back the carriage at all costs. Even as a haevrul approached the cave where Peeta hid
