CHAPTER 3: A Soup of Feelings (2)

PART 2

The sound of the bell marked the end of classes. Mike and Emily's group was gathered in the hallway.

"Shall we all head to the entrance? I've arranged to meet Adrián there," Emily suggested.

"Another one to add to your list?" Andrew chided her without looking at her.

"And if it were so, do you have a problem with that?" She turned to him with a provocative expression.

"Not at all, you're free to date whoever you want," he replied, looking directly into her eyes.

"Well, guys, things are getting a bit heated," Johnny tried to calm the situation by stepping between the ex-couple.

"True," Oscar agreed, grabbing Mike by the arm. "About what you said, it's better if we all meet at the entrance. We have something to do."

"Fine," Emily responded after a few seconds of silence, raising an eyebrow. However, as she and Anna began to walk away, Emily noticed that Diana wasn't moving.

"Aren't you coming?" she asked.

"I'll see you in a bit. I need to grab some things from the teachers' lounge," Diana replied with a forced smile.

As the girls walked away, a sepulchral silence settled over the group when Diana, instead of heading where she had mentioned, turned to face the boys and stared at them.

"Is something wrong?" Oscar asked without letting go of his friend.

"Aren't you going to dress Mike as a girl?" she asked, pointing at the person in question.

"How much do you know?" Oscar countered with a mafioso expression.

"You dress Mike as a girl so that Emily won't know Andrew is dating a guy."

"They’re dating?" Johnny blurted out, covering his mouth before bursting into laughter along with Oscar, while Mike sighed in frustration and Andrew played dumb.

"Yeah, true..." Andrew confirmed before pointing at her. "But why are you staying here?"

"Do any of you know how to do a woman's makeup?" she asked, squinting at each of them in turn without receiving any answer.

Ten minutes later, in one of Atlanta's three gym buildings, Mike was already dressed in the clothes Andrew' cousin had lent him. However, unlike last time when she could help them out, this time she was working, so she had to write down all the instructions and guidelines to transform her friend into a woman. Fortunately, Diana was already aware, and by taking charge, they didn't have to deal with such a tedious and complicated task.

"Now we just need to do your makeup," Diana informed Mike, who was sitting on the bench as she tied her hair up in a high ponytail due to the heat caused by her hair.

Johnny swallowed hard as he watched her, unable to take his eyes off the woman in front of him.

"There's nothing better than a woman with long hair, her nape exposed by a high ponytail, with drops of sweat on her neck," he voiced his thoughts aloud, followed by Oscar and Andrew' nods of agreement as they watched her for the same reason.

The young woman began to approach Mike to paint his thin but red lips. The intoxicating scent emanating from Diana awakened all of the blonde boy's senses. Having her so close, he couldn't stop staring at her, thinking that even being so near, she looked just as, if not more, beautiful; that her lips, coated in a moisturizing balm, were full and temptingly kissable... Mike hadn't realized that while these thoughts were wandering through his mind, his eyes had fixed on Diana's mouth, and when she looked at him, Mike, trying not to get caught by Diana, their eyes met just inches from each other. Both instantly blushed and quickly looked away, searching for the first thing they could find in the room.

"All done," Diana added, trying to break the awkwardness as she closed the mascara.

"Honestly, it's a shame you're not a woman. You'd be all mine," Johnny said, his eyes scanning his friend's entire body.

"That's disturbing," Andrew remarked, frowning at Johnny.

"Don't be so hard on him, it's not his fault he's more attractive as a woman than as a man," Oscar commented with a grin.

"Stop teasing him!" Diana scolded them to make them be quiet.

"We're sorry, Diana," Johnny and Oscar apologized, trying to be polite.

"There's nothing wrong with being androgynous. At Carnival, you could dress up as whatever you like without needing much," Diana added innocently, without any malice, but Mike's friends burst into laughter, even falling to the ground from laughing so hard.

Fifteen minutes later, they all headed to the entrance where Anna and Emily were waiting with Adrián.

"Where were you?" Emily asked Diana, irritated by the delay.

"When I was leaving the teachers' lounge, I saw the guys who told me they were going to find Micaela. So, I went with them."

"Hello," Mike greeted the girls, pitching his voice as best he could.

"Let's hurry, we still have a long way to go," Emily responded, turning her face away from "the girl" she believed her ex was dating, giving her the cold shoulder.

"But the arcade is just around the corner," Diana pointed out.

"I'd rather go to the amusement park. They opened one this month in the town where you used to live," Emily told Diana excitedly, taking her hands.

"In Gers?" Diana asked, thinking she hadn't heard correctly.

"Yes. I thought you'd like to go back after ten years," Emily replied with a smile.

"Don't change the plans to suit yourself," Andrew interjected, hands in his pockets, standing next to Mike.

"Why are you getting upset? It's only twenty minutes by car. Anyway, let's go, guys," Emily concluded, starting to walk in front of Andrew, swaying her hips from side to side to get his attention.

"Are you from Gers?" Andrew asked, looking ahead as Diana was about to start walking.

"Yes, why?"

"Did you move here ten years ago?"

"Yes."

"I see," Andrew finished, more serious than usual, and started walking, forcing Diana to follow behind him.
