Chapter 3: Decision

Chapter 3: Decision

Zohaib was in shock. He suspected that someone snitched about him and Sherry discussing the relationship between the boss and the assistant. Zohaib without saying anything not even wanting to know the reason behind the boss's decision, left the office and went back to his apartment.

Contemplating on his actions. Thinking to himself, did he really deserved this. To work for a company and keep on doing it for two years straight, wanting a promotion for the desire of having a better lifestyle so that I could form a family and live a good normal life. Work every day while being treated like shit.

Well, there will be some sort of good in this situation. I wish there is., he thought to himself while accepting the situation. Then he picked up his phone to call Sherry and ask about his situation.

"Well I was transferred to another branch in the east city", Sherry said, "Well then take care bye", Zohaib said while turning off his phone.

Zohaib without wasting any time started searching for a job online on his laptop.

He found out that the police departments in the city were recruiting mostly people of 20 - 30 years of age range, there is a small chance that he would be able to land a job there. So he applied.

He filled the form and submitted it online.

After a month, he was sent an invitation to the nearest police department.

There were about 30 to 40 candidates including Zohaib who had applied for the job. Among them he was the oldest.

"This does not look good", Zohaib thought to himself, "If I'm gonna have to become a police officer, I need to do my best or else I'll be simply rejected because of my age. I need to be extraordinary here."

However, they were all told by the chief to take the uniforms and there job starts from tomorrow.

One of the candidates raised her hand and asked, "Isn't there some sort of a test or a challenge in order to evaluate whether we are ready to become an officer?"

"No not really," the Chief said. "The reason behind this decision is not that we don't want to evaluate your abilities, the tasks that you will be entrusted with is going to be used in order to evaluate them. Tasks being completed successfully means that your capable of being an officer, but if you fail to complete those tasks, you'll be fired.", the recruiter said.

However, the real reason behind this decision was that the people in the country have become distant from the police and have started relying on local groups and gangs to get their justice by paying them a good amount, which has in return caused a huge damage to the peace of the city and the police's reputation as a result. Most of the people don't even want to rely on the police because of how unreliable they've become.

That is why the police departments have decided to recruit as many people as they can, since they're losing man power and the crime within the country is increasing day by day. So they were in no position to nitpick.

Zohaib was okay with the situation as he only needed the job in order to get the salary so that he could support himself. But at the same time this 29 year old man had been taught a very rigid sense of justice by his own father.

As he walked towards the bus stop, he was reminded, the words of his father, justice does not bent for the sake of anyone. WRONG IS WRONG, RIGHT IS RIGHT, nothing in between.

His eyes squint while he was thinking, but is disrupted by someone striking on his back, "Well from tomorrow we'll be working together right! so why not share our names with each other."

The rest of the candidates simply ignored him and walked straight towards the bus stop. "Well my name is Josif Jonathan, and you are?"

Zohaib replied with exhausted tone, "Zohaib."

"Well aren't you boring...", Josif said, but kept on talking on the bus stop, on the bus, and until he reached his destination, and Zohaib kept on responding with short answers to his questions.

Upon reaching his destination, Zohaib got out of the bus and began walking towards his apartment. A gentle breeze tousled his long, middle-parted hair as he gazed at the orange sky--the sun nearly set, its light reflecting of the clouds from the horizon. He kept on gazing, and thought to himself, is this the right decision? is it okay what I'm doing? I'm wanting to do a job that I don't really like nor do I have the motivation for it. Am I really going to do a job that I hardly care about, a job that requires me to do the right thing and..."

He stopped thinking, his eyes squint again, he thought to himself for a while.

Then he started walking towards his apartment. He turned on the television upon entering and there was another news, about a woman being raped and killed. I always hated these kinds of people, he thought to himself, always trampling over the lives of the innocent just to fulfill their humanly desires.

His eyes slowly but surely started filling up with a purpose and determination. No if I'm going to take on the duty of being a police officer than I'm going to do this with all honesty, I don't want to walk wrong path.

He made his decision. He took his shirt of, he was having a hairy chest, with flat belly, broad shoulders, and muscular arms and forearms.

He started doing pushups.

Something has changed!

10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.

Then sit-ups.

Something has changed!

10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.

Then squats.

Something has changed!

10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.

His body covered in sweat, taking heavy breaths, he laid down for a while. For the first time in his life he looked motivated for something, and without even realizing he fell asleep.

But he had already made the decision that might change his life for better or worse.
