2-Emergency

A horrible feeling rushed through me as I saw everything. A feeling so gross I spat it out and forced myself to weep. Soon enough acid rose through my throat and I puked into a nearby bush. The tang of acid and the smell of chips and energy drinks was horrible. My body was at its break. My muscles ached from rushing outside. My eyes and throat were sore. I …

I…

I..

I

I wanted to take a nap. The exhaustion of the situation brought me to conclude that sleep was the best option. Everything could be taken away by a dream.

A dream.

Dream.

This situation could be a dream, a horrifyingly realistic dream.

After all a dream wouldn’t register there being other players. The buyer couldn’t have said anything because it could’ve been garbled noise. The grayness of everyone’s skin could just be my brain filling in random what skin color is in odd ways. I heaved each leg back into the house and comfortably into the basement I stumbled a bit near the bed. But I successfully thudded into the bed. I shut my eyes and felt the pressure behind them dissipate. I shifted my body till everything was just right and the world melted away. A dull throbbing I didn’t notice earlier also went and everything felt clearer.

The [System] has granted your request to sleep.

I awoke and the room was the same as before. I tried to turn on my PC.

Dead

I checked my phone, also dead. I plugged into a wall and it started charging. I figured that I must’ve just forgotten about charging my things. I checked my PC for something that broke and found a chewed power cord. Upon seeing that cord I felt my grogginess fade away. I realized what might have happened. I ran upstairs and shouted for my parents. As I rounded the corner where I saw my parents bodies before; I braced for the worst.

I saw

I saw

Nothing there. There was genuinely no corpse. My worries slowly died. No corpses means what I thought happened was a dream. Unless … Unless somebody moved them. So I grabbed a broom and went upstairs. I checked the corridor and there was nothing. I parsed each room. Bathroom, bedroom, bedroom, nothing. There was nothing that seemed wrong, no corpse, no blood. I went downstairs. Maybe the corpses were still there, the sickly gray corpses. Eyes forced upon terror, those corpses of those who died.

I opened the front door. There were the corpses. The condition of them was much worse than last time. Some bloody, some bruised a few extremities sunken in, and a lot of them had nasty chunks taken out; all of them weren't no longer gray, but all of them were in different states of decay. I braced for the acid; it rose and reached my mouth. The tang was too much and I let it out. A second hit came out as I smelled the barf on the ground. I wiped my mouth. It was even worse than last time. It was definitely not a dream. The smell of the dead permeated the air.

I didn’t know what to do.

No. I couldn’t know what to do. My life was simple before. It lacked anything that would prepare me for this. What could I do in the face of something so horrible. Maybe I could try calling for help. I went down, back into the basement. I grabbed my phone while it was still charging and unlocked it.

I was about to unlock it. Except there were a few alerts.

National Emergency Alert (2 d 2 hrs 34ms ago)

Emergency Services Down. The emergencies are a lie do not trust anything.

National Emergency Alert (1d 15 hrs 12ms ago)

National Emergency Alert (12hrs ago)

Martial Law has been declared. All civilian laws have been replaced with orders from the military. Report to the nearest military personnel for further instruction[]. Failure to comply may result in arrest and or termination. If you find yourself in any of these Danger Zones [] you will be likely shot on sight; though arrests are to be taken if surrender is given. If you find yourself in any of these Warning Zones [] you will be detained. Migration or permanent stay in these zones are suggested []. Full map here[].

I studied the map the link provided. There were many areas that were marked red for danger zones; with the warning zone being marked around the danger zones as an outer shell. Of course there were a few areas marked as safety zones; many of them being military forts or bunkers and a few towns outright.

Nonetheless I now had an objective.

Bunker Irae.
