1-Unexpected

I was farming for the [Chilling Lich King Set] the moment I woke up. I knew that today was the day my parents went and kicked me out. I ran out of funds from selling my unnecessary items a long time ago; And I knew my parents wanted to get me a "real" job. But gaming is my passion and I will prove to them that 15 years of my life wasn’t wasted on some gamble. So I slaved away at fighting [Lich King Cyrus] over and ov-.

I heard my mother call, “My Jamie, it's dinner time.”

I shouted that I would be up after 15 minutes.

I awoke in my gaming chair and went to grab an energy drink. In my tired bones was a determination to get the [Chilling Sword of Lich King Cyrus] I was so sure this time was it. I opened my mini fridge and pulled out another energy drink. The cold crackle of fizz brought me joy as I drank it. One gulp, two gulps, three gulps, half empty I lay it on the table and log on.

If I could get the set I could sell it for $10 billion. I wouldn’t be useless anymore. I could pay off my debts and make sure my parents and I would never worry about money. I had my character worth $5 thousand of my money repeat Cyrus’s cutscene. The moment the QTE worthy of an Ozu pops up I complete it with practiced motions. With the completion of it Cyrus is already at half health. The rest of the fight becomes a slog however as I drink $500 worth of potions in 20 minutes. Using a combination of stuns and heals to survive Cyrus’s chill attacks. While spamming high damaging meteors to get past Chilled Cyrus’s defense.

After the final meteor hits Cyrus crumbles into a chest. I greedily open the chest hoping that Chilled Cyrus’s 1% drop rate loot is in my favor. I find myself gleefully delighted at the sight of the sword. I brought my cursor over the item and saw the words

[Chilling Sword of Lich King Cyrus]

A laughter came over me. I did it, I did it, I did it. After all that time everything paid off. I went to the market place with a teleport crystal. Oddly enough the usually brimming marketplace had nobody there except for NPCs. I went to where the buyer was and there it was. A player pimped out the most expensive items money can buy except for what I had obviously.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

I offered a full set of Chilling Lich King Cyrus and bumped up the $20 billion. I was feeling cocky that nobody was going to offer the set and felt I deserved this. But after a minute of absolute silence I felt I was too greedy and dropped it to $15 billion. I gave plenty of reasons why I had it so high with a few of them made up. The buyer didn’t even flinch, nor move, nor speak, all there was, was just silence. I dropped it to previously agree price of $10 billion.

A creeping worry that the buyer literally died was reaching towards me. If there was no buyer it meant that all those years were worthless anyhow. I felt tears welling up. It shouldn’t. No. It couldn’t end like this. I dropped it to $9 billion. Then the buyer bought the item and I breathed a big sigh of relief.

I looked at my account and saw the $9 billion. It was less than what I was aiming for, but I'd rather have something than nothing. I jumped up from my seat and ran for the door to announce the good news. As I ran past I almost knocked a plate over, but I managed to clumsily catch it. On the plate were some thickly scored fried chicken. I slowed down for a bit, taking time to remember that this was my comfort food. I chuckle at the insanity of enjoying some fried chicken. After all with this money we would be eating rich foods like caviar/

Then I remember that I was supposed to eat with my parents and I felt horrible. Although they would understand the reason why I couldn’t, if they saw the money, right? As a sort of atonement I ate the chicken, not in joy, but just for the sake of atonement. After finishing the chicken I reached upstairs to the living room to tell them the good news.

My parents were slumped on the ground with sickly pale skin. I tried shaking them, but they were cold. I screamed in panic and my mind rushed for what to do. I didn’t know how to provide aid nor did I know how to call emergency services properly; so I shouted for help. I ran from towards the door and tried to unlock the door.

> Third bolt unlocked

> Door unlocked.

I slammed upon the door and shouted for help. But my pleas were empty, as it became apparent that nobody was able to help. Houses were destroyed by what might’ve been bombs. The usually bustling street lacking its usual cars. The worst of it all were the people. On the sidewalks were people of sickly pale skin all slumped in unnatural positions.
