Chapter 5

"That's how I clean the water; the only side effect is the color. Go ahead and give it a shot. I assure you that it is safe to drink. Here." Lykke sipped the now-black water, demonstrating to the man that the water would not harm him. Lykke returned the bowl to the man, who looked him down before taking his own drink. "You weren't kidding, kid. All of the dirt and debris has been removed, and it now tastes somewhat normal! Let's keep going, I think I can get some good stuff for these." said the man. Lykke began pointing to all the details of his work once more as he showed the man his weapon. "This is a unique weapon that I create. It's lightweight and has these unique barbs on the blade. These allow you to catch other people's weapons as they swing inside the barbs and disarm them with a simple twist. I can demonstrate if one of your guards doesn't mind." He stated. The man waved a guard as an example, and the weapon popped right out of the man's hand, just as Lykke explained. "Excellent work, young man. Let us now examine your armor." said the man. "To be frank, the armor has no special abilities. Personally, I believe this armor provides excellent protection while remaining reasonably comfortable to wear. The padding I added inside makes any blows you take much easier and more comfortable to absorb while also not weighing you down as much." Lykke elaborated. The man took the armor and put it on himself. He stood up, strapped the chest piece to one of his guards, and directed another of his guards to the armor with a weapon. The guard was taken aback when the weapon struck him with some force, and he was able to take the blow easier than before. The man sat and considered what was in front of him. "These are just a few examples, and there are different perks for different items in my inventory, which, as I previously stated, is mixed. Please feel free to look around." Lykke said, and the man waved him off. "Trust me, I believe you, kid. While this isn't the highest quality merchandise available, it's certainly adequate." He said this before turning his gaze to the guard standing next to Lykke. "Was there a good supply? Is it enough to justify our trade?" He inquired of the guard. "I'd say there's a good bit, definitely enough to fill some empty spaces we have," the guard said, nodding. The man returned his gaze to the items. "I'll tell you what, kid. The bitch has pretty much given up, and we have to force feed her at this point. She doesn't wash, which turns off some of my customers, so we're forced to wash her like an animal. I'm sick of providing for and accommodating a liability. I reckon I'll accept your offer, and I'll even throw in some assistance. Simply follow my example, or you may have bitten off more than you can chew." The man approached the cage in which the girl was being held. "So, guess what, little bird? It's your lucky day! This man just paid a premium for you. Therefore, you ought to keep him warm at night." The man turned to face his bodyguards. "All right, boys, let's get started!" The man yelled. Residents of the neighborhood heard the commotion and returned to the caravan.

The man saw Lykke's concern as they began to pack up, so he shot Lykke a glance and raised his hand at his hip, assuring Lykke that he would get his deal. "Hey! What the hell is going on?!" When one man yelled, others gathered to fuel a small riot. After a few minutes of the man attempting to calm the crowd, one of the crowd members charged toward the man with a large rock in his hand. One of the guards, taking no chances, raised the makeshift axe he was carrying above his head and jumped off the caravan toward the person charging. He brought the axe over his head with one big swing, connecting the metal with the man's head and nearly splitting the skull in half like firewood. The riot was put to an end when the man who had charged went limp and fell to the ground. Blood slowly pooled around the corpse as it lay lifeless on the ground. The sight of this caused everyone to back away, with the majority of them returning to their homes. "I'm sorry about your neighbor. Unfortunately, these things do happen from time to time, and I am always saddened by it. Please accept my condolences." The man said this before turning to Lykke and nodding for him to follow the caravan. "If you want to barter before we leave, this is your last chance! We are running out of time, so the girl is out, but there is always next time! Please make your final decisions, and remember that all sales are final, my dear friends!" The man then turned and walked around the back of the cart while Lykke walked around the side. "I'm not sure if his doing that was a coincidence or fate, but it allowed us to have a little more privacy to make our deal." said the man. "Privacy? What is the dilemma with that?" Lykke replied. "Seriously, kid? You don't get it, despite how brilliant you are at making this stuff, do you? All of these guys jumped at the chance to give our little bird some of their manhood; what do you think they'd do to you if they found out you owned her now?" He was right. If they discovered that the girl is now in town, there would be no stopping a horde of men. Lykke agreed with him and noticed that all of his belongings were already loaded onto the caravan. "I hope you don't mind that my boys did that while the big commotion was going on. You've got to seize every opportunity that comes your way, right?" He chuckled and said.
