Wayne decided that he wanted to hike around the rather obscure, but very untouched, Celestial Valley for a final before-college adventure.
This was a mistake.
Wayne had always been an outdoor man, and with the environmental status of the globe rapidly falling to pollution, he was glad to find at least one untouched place in the world. He got less glad very quickly when his month-long camping trip ended with him trapped behind a rockslide. And also trapped at the time where the little valley was so unvisited that the government didn't find it worth it to put park rangers in the area.
So now he was trapped with god knows how many other people over a hundred miles from any other civilization, summer quickly coming to an end, and no one knew that he was trapped here.
He was evaluating the rockslide to try and find an easy way to climb up when someone else walked up.
"Hey, what happened?"
"EEP!"
"HA! I surprised you, didn't I?"
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
"N-no!"
"...Surrreeeee. So what happened?" She asked.
"Well, a rockslide blocked off the exit, and I didn't see anyone In the parking lot before it happened, so I'd say we're stuck for the time being."
"Huh. Well, there isn't anything we can do about it. What's your name?"
"Wayne. Yours?"
"Erika."
----------------------------------------
Erika was about a mile out when she heard the boom.
She had been in Celestial Valley from the beginning of summer, on the day the park opened, to go backpacking around every inch of the valley.
She had run the entire mile in five minutes to get to the ominous sound, and was surprised to find someone else there.
When she saw the fallen rocks, her heart dropped out of her chest and into her stomach. She was supposed to be back in town for work in just a week. This was bad.
"Hey, what happened?"
"EEP!"
----------------------------------------
The ominous boom was so quiet, and the waterfall so loud, that Chad almost didn't hear it. But he did, and he didn't like what it meant. The birds didn't either. He couldn't exactly understand them, but he didn't need to know what they were saying to tell that they were on edge. It was as if they had heard the sound before, and knew that it was dangerous, but also knew that it was far away and couldn't hurt them. This scared Chad, because it meant that his meditative journey might be a bit longer than planned.
Hmm... I'll check it out later.
He sat back down, the familiar brown burlap of his robes comforting against his skin.
