Chapter 9: Echos of Eidolon

Chapter 9: Echos of Eidolon

[4 days later, in the evening]

Lily: "We're running out of food…"

Eli: "Well, there are 5 people here… eventually the food would've run out, but I didn't think it would be this soon…" He glances over at Sarah and Katelyn.

Sarah: "What…. I didn't eat that much…"

Eli: "You and Katelyn made a full-course breakfast meal yesterday morning on top of making a big dinner as well…"

Lily: "It was very delicious, though it was kinda wasteful as well…."

Katelyn snorted: "At least we shared, you didn't have to eat it!"

Eli, slowly getting upset: "Now hold on…"

Light, interrupting the argument: "Look! It's very simple, we have to go salvage for food. There's other houses we can look into. We can either split up or stay as a team to look for food."

(After weighing down their options, knowing that Light still has supernatural abilities, all of them agreed it would be best working as a team. As they all geared up to face the uncertainty, Light's undead team, standing as still as a statue, stood in front of the house guarding it.)

Sarah: "I'm surprised that none of the monsters tried salvaging through my house."

Eli replied: "It's probably due to Light's skeleton guarding the place, but then again it is strange.."

Light: "We can talk about it later, we need to focus. We can start on the house on the left until we have enough food."

Lily added: "What if we don't find anything?"

Light: "Then we will eventually have to venture further, but be ready."

[While walking from house to house, Light, Lily, and Eli engage in a conversation.]

Lily: Light, I've noticed something over the past few nights. You seem to be in a lot of pain. Are you okay?

Eli: Yeah, Lily's right. You've been looking really uncomfortable. Is something bothering you?

Light: (responding coldly and distant) I'm fine. Just a little tired, that's all.

Lily: Are you sure? It seems like more than just tiredness. We're here for you, Light.

Light: It's nothing. Let's focus on finding some food.

(On the nights when Light is plagued by headaches, he feels as if something much darker is trying to take over. In his mind, a shadowy figure of himself looms, its face twisted into a sinister smile. It seems almost demonic, and its voice echoes with a haunting repetition.)

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Dark Figure: This is what you will become. Eidolon.

This is what you will become. Eidolon.

This is what you will become…

Light: (trying to make sense of it)What does it mean? Who or what is Eidolon?

(Light thinking about the message he saw when his rage and anger couldn't hold back from the humiliation he faced at school)

("Was that not an actual dream? He thought")

(As the conversation unfolds, mirrors begin to form around Light, reflecting his darker self. The dark figure's voice grows louder and more menacing.)

Dark Figure: This is what you wanted! This is what you desired all along!

(Light suddenly wakes up on the third night, gasping for air, drenched in sweat.)

(Light jolts awake, his heart pounding in his chest. The encounter with the dark presence leaves him shaken and confused.)

[The scene shifts back to the present.]

(They made their way to each house vigilantly. The first house seemed as if all the belongings were gone, food and other resources were taken. This went on for the second and third house.)

Eli: (sighs) "We haven't found anything, the houses so far have been cleaned out."

Lily: (trying to be positive) "Maybe….we would find something, I'm sure

Sarah: (excited) "Oh, that's Mr. and Mrs. Roberson's house. Their daughter Rose was always so nice to me. We can check their house to see if they have anything."

(A cold chill ran down Sarah's spine as a warning when they approached the house. She dismissed this as her nerves getting the best of her. When she opened the door, the smell of blood thickened the air, and a horrific scene unfolded inside the house. Crunching noises could be heard coming from the living room, where a grey looking goblin, with teeth as sharp as a razor and a frail body but sharp claws, was found.)

Sarah: (petrified) Mr. and Mrs. Roberson… They're… being eaten by these things!

Eli: (whispering) Shh, Sarah. They're blind, but they have exceptional motion detection.

(As the goblin detected their presence, Light summoned his skeleton soldier to fight while Eli joined him. Despite their frail bodies, the creatures were fast. But once caught, they were easy to kill.)

Light: (to Eli) We need to be careful. They may be blind, but they're fast when they sense movement.

In a swift motion, Lily threw a knife at one of the creatures, killing it instantly.

Eli: (amazed) "That was a perfect throw, Lily!"

Katelyn, too, was amazed by Lily's accuracy.

(As Light finished off the remaining creatures, Sarah was in a spiraling state.)

Eli: Sarah, are you holding up?

Sarah: I… I'm scared. This whole situation is overwhelming.

Light: Fear won't help us survive. Stay close and be alert, Sarah.

(Eli, Lily, and Katelyn regroup, ready to face any potential threats.)

Eli: Let's clear out this place and move on. No time to waste.

Lily: Yeah, we should keep moving.

Light: Agreed. We need to stay on the move. Focus on the immediate danger.

[The group proceeds methodically, clearing each room of the Robersons' house. Sarah's fear persists, and she struggles to find solace.]

Sarah: (whispering to herself) I need something to calm my nerves. Maybe Rose's room will have something.

(She ran up to Rose's room, only to find another grey monster chomping on roses corpse. It screeched loudly, calling for more of its kind.)

Sarah: No! Not here too!

[Panicked, Sarah ran back down the stairs while the rest tried to kill the creature in the bedroom.)

(Eli, and Katelyn rush to Sarah's aid, leaving Light alone for a moment. He catches a glimpse of his reflection in a nearby mirror

Light: (muttering coldly) This darkness… it's consuming everything.

(Light's reflection distorts, transforming into a chilling figure resembling the one from his nightmares.)

Shadowy Figure hitting the other side of the mirror: Eidolon!!

Light: (struggling to maintain composure) Leave me alone!

(Light snaps back to reality, quickly joining the others in battling the creature in Rose's room. They fight with grim determination, dispatching the threat.)

Eli: Light, you okay? You seemed… off. More than usual.

Light: (maintaining a cold demeanor) I'm fine. Let's keep moving. We can't waste any more time here.

Lily, looking out the front window, warned them: "More of them are coming!"

(The group swiftly exits the Robersons' house, their resolve hardened by the darkness around them. They brace themselves for the relentless challenges that lie ahead, Light's coldness casting a shadow over their already precarious situation.)
