Chapter 3: Getting on the Same Page

The next morning drew by more quickly than anticipated and what was weird was I didn't feel sore anymore. With a soft moan, I woke up. The smell of fresh bread and cooked meats filled the room, making me drool. Stiff from being in bed so long, along with the beating I took, I practically creaked like an old door standing up. Surveying the, possibly guest, room I awoke in, I noted a few things more closely. No closet, the furniture was wood though most of it used as little shaped timber, and a nightstand had some clothes with a dress on them. It read, "I hope you don't mind me dropping these off, but I figured the clothes and bandages may be wanted once you felt up to rolling out of bed." Sighing with guilt, I hopped out of bed to get changed. It felt good to get up but I dreaded looking at my body. Injuries aside, it felt like my mind and the walls were chiding me over the feminine body I found myself in. As my body was becoming exposed, a few things surprised me. Some of the bruises and cuts seemed to be healing faster than expected. Had I been unconscious so long before I first woke up? I also felt surprisingly more comfortable than expected with my new body. Those thoughts however caused my anxiety to magnify though I couldn't clearly understand why. Shaking my head, I hurried up with the last bit of bandages and getting dressed. The dress felt surprisingly soft and felt like it fit my new look.

Exiting the room, I wandered about the house. The house was filled with a warm light, the scent of the woods, and a gentle soft feeling in the air. I spent time to inspect it closely as it brought a smile to my face. Eventually, I made my way to the kitchen where that orange interesting fox seemed to be cooking. Stepping up behind him and looking over his shoulder to see what was cooking, I asked, "Do you need any help?" Kavro chuckled, "Not particularly, did you enjoy wandering around?" I blushed, "Y yeah. I found it all kind of pretty and homey. How did you know?" "We foxes are fairly good at picking out the little things around us. Snow foxes especially. I met one that could pick up on pray though several feet of snow," he grinned. Spotting the bread rolls and a knife, I decided to at least be a little proactive. Slicing the bread, I tried to keep talking, "So... ummm thanks for rescuing me and bandaging me, Sorry for being so prickly. It feels like I had my world had been smashed through and ripped from me. I seem to be missing a lot of memories I think. By the way that isn't a costume right?" The fox laughed at me, "Pretty elaborate costume. I have no idea how anyone could make one that looks like another species, and no mage would waste the magic and effort for it either."

"So convinced?" Putting the bread and knife down, I stumbled a bit as he caught me with a spare hand. Gently pushing his hand away, I sat on a chair to watch him cook. It couldn't be real, could it? I mean, I fell from the sky, fox people are real, and am I even on Earth anymore? My whole body shook as the shock hit me. Karvo's ear twitched before glancing at me, "Hey you okay? Your heart is racing and you look like something slapped you in the face." He placed the food from his odd pan before putting the food on the table. Kneeling Korvo looked into my eyes as he patted my shoulder, "Come on back to me. What is going on? Me being a real fox that scary?" I blinked a few times and took deep breaths before I could reply. "S sorry, I just overdo it this morning by wandering so much. The injuries acted up." Korvo frowned as his emerald green eyes stared into mine. He sighed incredulously, "Alright, for the time being, want to tell me your name? As you already know I am Korvo." Closing my eyes, I responded, "I... I am... Sabrina Light." I reached out to shake his hand. Korvo smiled a bit before shaking my hand in return, "So breakfast?"
