Chapter 1: a Rocky Landing

Chapter 1: a Rocky Landing

I cried, "Maggie, don't do this. I am doing my best but I can't stop my nightmares and other issues. Please take me to the doctor to get my leg checked out. I didn't break my own leg on purpose!" Maggie walked away with anger in her eyes and spite in her words, "You just want someone to wait on you like our parents did. You always make stuff up like your PTSD and your sexual issues. Just suffer some if it is real and drive yourself or get Sam to dive you when they get back from work or better yet why don't you just die and go be with mom, Ja..."

That was the last memory I have before I regained consciousness, if it could be called that. I could feel... taste... see? What ever it was or how I sensed it, the space around me seemed to be a black, inky, thick, goo that seemed to taste, for a lack of words, like death, despair, fear and sour milk. I didn't move in it, It moved around me. This vileness felt like it stuck to my skin and was somehow invading my body to feast on what ever was inside me. It burned making me wish it would stop as i began to whisper to me. "Your luck is just abysmal and you were too desperate weren't you. Don't worry soon you won't remember anything and will just be another lost. Pain doesn't matter when you can't remember it right?" I had given up resisting as, I think, I had been trying for ages, and my body was just sore and was so heavy, I couldn't move. How long had I been there, how much longer must I keep suffering? Some time seemed to past before cool wind would whisper by. Something warmed the skin and split the darkness. My possible arm reached out towards that feeling while a roar tore though everything like a blade, "No he is mine! My new toy to feast upon, and to use as I please as an agent of chaos!" Something drew me up and away from that place as what seemed like a balm whispered in my ears, "Please accept my apology for missing what it had been doing to you. I was to ask a favor of you as well as giving you something special. You who have never been born into the living here, I ask this favor but will give my boon regardless. Live and follow your heart and empathy, not your ire and malice."

It was then that something familiar yet felt alien began. The sounds warm singing cry of birds echoed about scenery. The scents, of what felt familiar to me at the time, of flowers, grass and possibly pine wafted on the breeze. My eyelids heavy tried to flutter open seeing strange bright, warm painful light, revealing some kind of slowly moving blob. Coughing and hacking up a thick muddy gunk from my lungs, I managed to whimper out a couple words around it, "H help." As I was about to say me a word or something moved though my mind and slipped out instead, "Kavro." The world fell back into darkness that was more comforting than the gunky kind I had felt before.

Light fluttered though my eyes as I began to wake up again. I could make out the area better this time as the light seemed to be less intense. The space was a bit more of a neutral kind of feel to it. It smelled of a woody and slightly musky scent. The walls took on a more familiar simplistic design. What random thoughts slipped though my mind told me it had reminded me of a European wattle and daub house design. The exact details eluded me what that was but it felt familiar and relaxed me. No more blinding goo eating away at me no longer, although I still felt sore in places. My body and torso felt sluggish and heavy as a tried to sit up to get a better view of the room. A pained groan and hiss was filling the room from someplace, taking a bit before realizing it was me. Noise started to come from the wall in front of me, taking a bit before I realized there was a door. Stepping though the door seemed to be a humanoid but not any I could recognize, at least it wasn't human unless it was in an expensive costume. Whimpering in pain, I tried to back away some bumping into a headboard. A paff of something falling onto a bed and a thump from the fox taking a more aggressive stance took me by surprise. Flailing about some I tried to grab what ever fell while using an arm pushed towards the fox as a kind of weak barrier. As the fox approached me it came into clearer focus, he was hulking and towered over me, with a dark brown almost black pelt. the only reason I could tell it wasn't black was because his hands and feet were a more rich truer black then the rest of him. He seemed to have a more cream slash light brown belly color in contrast to the rest of him. What made me flinch and feel fear was his eyes though. Those eyes were a bright yellow with tidbits of red lined in reminding me of some dark beings from space with glow sticks or something.

Finding what fell, I tossed it at the fox making it stop and stare at me like I was nuts. It was some kind of a leather belt or clasp of some kind that bounced off his chest fur. I felt like a massive moron as he walked up to me. That massive beast growled some as a whimper and yelp for help from anyone began to spill out of me, along with my arms coming up to protect my face. Pain would lance through me as the being batted past my arms to grab my neck to choke me. The fox would begin to say something that I couldn't understand at first but seemed to turn into the more familiar English I knew, "... diot, now would you..." He groaned as if realizing something. He would begin talking with a very slight accent, unlike before, "shut up human. Do you understand me now?" I looked to his face despite the strain it caused me. My head would bob up and down in a nod trying to do anything to get him to stop choking me before I passed out. Unfortunately, my body was weaker than he or I probably thought and I blacked out anyways, just as I heard another entering the building.
