The day was calm as usual. I was sitting in class, once again not paying attention. Not that it was my problem.
The teacher asked, "What is the solution to -3x + 2 = 5x?"
A few children raised their hands, the teacher pointed to someone, who answered. Blah blah, always the same old song.Nothing interesting has ever happened in my life.
The lessons passed by far too slowly until finally it was noon. I went to my usual spot on the playground.
"Yo, Can!" Lynn called out. 'Can' was the nickname she had come up with for me.She had been using it since she first met me. She was probably the only 'real' friend I had. We do everything together, know everything about each other, and we are inseparable.
She sat down next to me and began to take out her lunchbox.
"Are you going to do anything special during the holidays?" she asked.
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
"Nah, probably nothing. Unless you find rotting away in my room special," I said, grinning.
"Wow! I didn't expect that much action from you!" she said as sarcastically as possible.
We both burst out laughing.
"And what would Mrs. do herself then?" I said teasingly.
She thought for a moment. "Maybe invite you to go to the movies. How does that sound?"
"That sounds amazing."
"That's a deal then!" she said, extending her hand.
"Deal!" I shook her hand firmly.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-
"Noo, lunch break is over. Well, see you tomorrow!"
"Later," I said as I packed up my things and headed to the next class.
"The last classes went by faster than expected. Before I knew it, I was already home."
On the kitchen counter lay a note: "We're at your aunt's party. Food is in the fridge and just needs to be heated. Love, your parents xxx"
I took my dinner and heated it up while scrolling through TikTok. After filling my stomach, I did my homework. I was pretty tired, so I went straight to bed.
As I lay snug under the blankets, my mattress started to feel strange. It kept getting harder, and the birds singing outside my window sounded louder than before. After feeling a bright flash of light through my eyes, I jumped up.
I looked around, rubbed my eyes for a moment, looked around again, and rubbed my eyes once more.
"WHAT THE FUCK!?" I yelled.
That was a dumb idea because I immediately started hearing loud footsteps in the distance.
