|Chapter 8|
~.-.-To Clasp Joy-.-.~
----------------------------------------
??? - POV -
Aimlessly wandering about my new hole; I bitterly note upon its utter inferiority in comparison to my previous, much nicer hole. What horrid machinations must be going through that Noisy One’s mind for it to designate this clearly lacking hole as my own?! There are no comfy brown leaves to cushion my core, nor any squiggly pink snacks in the walls to satiate my occasional munchies. There isn’t even enough space in between the large, uniform rods of rock to sit between; Not to mention the lack of room in general.
Hmph! ‘Stupid Noisy Ones and their lack of common sense! They have no decency whatsoever!’
----------------------------------------
An unknown amount of time later -
Drowsy and filled with rapidly surfacing lethargy, I began to doze off. Slouching forward, I couldn’t help but to extend my beautiful, pastel blue body across the bone-chilling floor. ‘Tired...’. It wasn’t so much bliss but rather tranquility in part due to a virtually complete lack of sound; That had brought me to my current state. Splayed about the slick, lustrous floor; I am immediately interrupted by a Cr-
SLAM!
Startled, I all but bounced upwards; My gelatinous body rebounding in the air. Rippling like a stone chucked in a lake; Before hitting the ground with a heavy splat. Body still jiggling; I steady my core enough to face the culprit. Landing with a resounding thud, the Noisy One connected with the bottom of the hole. Glaring at the haggard, now red-faced creature; I creased the top of my body in similar fashion to it, attempting to portray my annoyance.
‘I just want to sleep! And maybe food... and more space... and a lot of stuff actually...’ Squeaking in pure, unbridled rage; I unleashed my vehement vexation upon the soon to be condemned soul.
‘OH WOE YOU AND YOUR ILL FATED PLIGHT!’.
Engulfed by fury, I continued my grating, squeaky barrage for another couple of minutes. Swiftly tiring out, I decided upon my most merciful soul to spare the poor, foolish creature.
Upon coming back to my senses, I quickly realize that the Noisy One was nowhere to be found; Perhaps cowering in fear somewhere in response to my outburst.
‘Yes, that's an understandable response. I’ll stick with that.’.
----------------------------------------
Once more edging on the verge of unconsciousness, I’m rudely interrupted by the overly obnoxious Noisy One. Begrudgingly sitting upright, I slinked into a more optimal position to view the puzzling creature and its many eccentric, yet mildly intriguing endeavors. It gave me the occasional side eye, and even a full glance at one point, but otherwise it remained immersed in its perplexing behavior. After 10 or so minutes of tinkering around with its assortment of items; It got up, and just walked away...
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
‘...’
Awkwardly, I began to shift around, slightly miffed at its antics.
‘Why was it even coming in here if it was just going to constantly leave for one reason or another?’.
Perplexed, I started to really question my captor's disposition. Disappointed with my findings, I scrunch up; Resigning to my ever ill-advised fate. Sitting motionlessly, I patiently waited for time to eventually pass along. Minute by minute, second by second...
----------------------------------------
Determined to outwit the seemingly unpredictable Noisy One, I awaited; WIDE awake. I wouldn’t slip up, not this time at least. Zoning out; ‘I’ll be darned if I-’
Creak~
Spooked, I proceed to make a small jump backwards; Landing in a tumble towards the far end of the hole.
‘A critical failure... I guess I do be darned.’
Groggily rolling forward, shifting my mass around my core; I feel a hint of sorrow in response to my self-imposed failure. Briskly dismissing my ineptitude, I perk back up. Turning towards the Noisy One, I inch forward, arriving near its lithe, lumbering form. Shifting my core upwards, I anticipate its next action; However convoluting in nature it may be.
Rummaging through a hollow, cylindrical rock; It pulled out a couple of funny looking plants, similar in shape to those that I’ll sometimes find buried in the forest.
‘Oh how I miss it there...’
Fiddling around, the Noisy One attached one of the bulbous treats to that dastardly, unholy FIEND. Quickly enraged, I had to physically hold myself back from instigating it. I'm not confident in my chances in combat; Not now, as it has presumably studied my every move during its downtime. Plotting my next advance, I stood stationary; Awaiting its next move. Steadily encroaching upon my range of attack; I held still. The best case scenario would be its eventual disinterest and subsequent retreat from my quarters.
Motionless, I survey the vile, steadily approaching figure. Wary, yet adamantly reluctant to engage; I let it probe me. Slathering the lubricating oil rendered from the taproot across my body. Confounded by its bizarre behavior; I began musing over its actions.
‘Was this... was this perhaps a gift? A display of comradery? Was IT, the very same being that I had once thought I knew, attempting to seek forgiveness?’
I started contemplating my answer, but ultimately; I couldn’t find any justifiable reason to reject its proposed truce. Firming my will, I dared to accept its penitent offer. And with a slight leap forward, I engulfed the generous, tasty offering. Quickly dissolving the shockingly flavorful vegetable, I glance back at the Friend. My new acquaintance seemed to have another treat snared to it. Once again closing on my cage, it-
SHATTER!
Momentarily startled, I am quickly brought back by the realization that the layer of mystifying green light which had once contained me, had fractured and vanished. Immediately, without hesitation or so much as a second thought; I booked it out of my cage.
‘Thank you my friend, my hero! I’ll never forget yo-!!!’
But before I could get much further than four rolls from that dreaded cage; I was promptly snared by the newly alert Noisy One. Clasped between its now glinting, glassy green encased hand; I gradually began to lessen my now futile struggle towards something so wishful as freedom. I slumped, my gelatinous body sagging...
‘Why…’
While writing this chapter, I had gotten bored and so decided to make some abstract art of the slime during its time in chapter 4.
