Chapter 6: Green

The sound of a wardrobe opening wide echoed in the bedroom.

Rendy, searching for something in his wardrobe, sifted through each piece of clothing.

His left hand rummaged through every hanging garment behind the wardrobe door.

Eventually, his hand found a brown jacket.

The brown jacket he wore when he was shot.

This reminded Rendy of his death.

The pain was brief but felt like fainting.

Rendy also remembered that the part of his head that was hit was his forehead.

He immediately touched his forehead.

Feeling no injury, Rendy wondered why there was no scar on his forehead.

Something was odd about his death.

Not wanting to linger, Rendy quickly grabbed the brown jacket and put it on.

As he wore it, Rendy could smell the lingering scent of rainwater.

This scent was the smell of Rendy's death.

Rendy wanted to take off the jacket, but it was already nighttime outside.

The cold night air would pierce his heart.

But Rendy's destination was Mr. Flint's house next door.

Actually, a jacket like this wasn't necessary.

Rendy tried to remove his jacket again, but this time he stopped.

He decided to go elsewhere to seek nighttime employment after leaving Mr. Flint's house.

After making that decision, Rendy kept his brown jacket on.

He closed his wardrobe and left the room.

Rendy headed towards the front door of his house.

His feet moved swiftly towards his house's exit.

His left hand reached the doorknob and opened it.

Creak.

When the door opened, Rendy was startled.

A woman remembered by Rendy stood before him.

The woman had black hair, wore a purple jacket and black jeans. She also had on running shoes.

She looked at Rendy with gratitude.

"I heard you're alive again," said Vanessa, his former colleague.

"Yes, I'm lucky."

"You were lying in front of that university. Your head was bleeding a lot, which made everyone panic."

"Wait? You found my body?"

Vanessa shook her head.

"When I saw it, there were already several people around your body."

"Then who informed Reina?"

"It was the boss who did it. He felt guilty for firing you."

Hearing that gave Rendy a glimmer of hope about his life.

"So, did he take me back?" asked Rendy.

Vanessa shook her head, telling him that the boss didn't change his decision.

Hearing that, Rendy looked at the tiles of his house, feeling his hope shattered again.

Seeing Rendy melancholic, Vanessa reached into her jacket.

It was an envelope.

The envelope was brown and tied with a red ribbon.

Vanessa offered the envelope to Rendy.

Rendy stared blankly at the envelope.

"What is this? A termination letter?"

Vanessa shook her head, smiling.

"Open it."

Hearing that, Rendy then opened the envelope.

He untied the ribbon that secured the envelope.

Rendy began to open the envelope.

The contents of the envelope were ten 20-ren notes.

Rendy held the ten 20-ren notes and looked at Vanessa.

"It's an apology from the boss for firing you and causing that accident," explained Vanessa.

"Alright, I'll go home then," Vanessa added.

Vanessa then turned and walked away without a word from Rendy.

Rendy could only stay silent, given 200 ren.

With 200 ren, Rendy and Reina could survive for one month. With cheap food.

Unexpectedly for Rendy, help came when he needed it.

Feeling that he no longer needed money from the Flint family, Rendy tried to go back home instead of next door.

While stroking the ren notes, Rendy entered his house and sat on the sofa.

He could feel the smell and texture of the paper.

Suddenly, Rendy remembered that 200 ren was still not enough.

It was only enough to patch a few days for a normal person.

But for Rendy and Reina, who were very thrifty, it could last for a month.

Even so, Rendy still felt troubled.

He still wanted more money.

Rendy then stood up and put his money in his wallet before leaving the house.

From there, he started to move next door.

Rendy decided to still ask Mr. Flint for money.

According to Rendy, the more money, the better.

When he arrived at the front door of Mr. Flint's house.

Rendy started to knock on the door softly.

Knock, knock, knock.

After a few minutes, the door of his house opened.

An old man in a white shirt with jeans appeared before Rendy.

The old man smiled and hugged Rendy tightly.

"What's the matter?"

Rendy looked at the ground, and his voice seemed hesitant.

"Um, um."

Asking for money suddenly like this was very rude, even if they were close relatives.

Plus, Rendy's pride didn't like asking, making him even more hesitant in his words.

Rendy, who had been staring at the ground all this time, confused Mr. Flint.

Mr. Flint, confused, then gently patted Rendy's shoulder

.

Rendy, touched, began to speak.

"Can I borrow money for a month's worth of food?" asked Rendy.

Mr. Flint furrowed his brow.

"Why?"

"We've run out of food stock."

Hearing that, Mr. Flint burst into laughter and patted Rendy's shoulder again.

"If you're hungry, you can come here with your little sister," said Mr. Flint.

"We'll welcome you like our own children," he added.

For Mr. Flint and Mrs. Fiana, taking care of Rendy and Reina was a debt they owed to their late mother.

Rendy smiled and thanked him.

But he still wanted more money.

He then persuaded Mr. Flint by talking about some items that needed to be bought. Such as soap, electricity costs, and others.

Hearing all this, Mr. Flint hesitated.

He then entered his house. Before entering, he asked Rendy to wait for a moment.

Rendy waited in front of his house.

Several minutes passed, and Rendy was still waiting.

Until almost half an hour had passed and Mr. Flint had not returned, making Rendy worried.

Suddenly, he heard an argument inside the house. The voices belonged to Mr. Flint and Mrs. Fiana.

Rendy tried to listen more carefully.

From what he heard, they seemed to be looking for something.

Something was missing from them. This made them appear to be arguing.

Rendy wanted to enter but hesitated because he was afraid of disturbing them.

Suddenly, a green creature walked casually next to Rendy.

The creature walked out of the house.

Rendy remembered that it was the goblin talked about by the Slave of Death.

The goblin carried a sack on its shoulder.

It crossed Rendy's mind that this creature had just stolen something.

Without hesitation, Rendy immediately grabbed the sack.

Realizing its sack was taken, the goblin faced Rendy.

It hissed like a snake towards Rendy, staring at him with its sharp eyes.

The stare was enough to make Rendy scared.

Rendy stepped back while holding onto the sack.

The goblin showed its yellow fangs.

It began to approach Rendy.
