I continue to stare at the notification baffled.
‘Do I tell Uncle Moren about it? Gael maybe? Or do I just say screw it and receive the message. Ugh why is everything so complicated, I just wanted a goddamn cool class! Is that so much to ask for?’
I look over to see Uncle Moren and Gael talking amicably.
‘Maybe I do just tell them, after all what’s the harm?’ I think to myself.
‘No, I need to do this myself, I won’t always have him around. Plus as much as I trust Uncle Moren, in case this is some sort of big deal, I’d rather him not get him, or Gael for that matter, involved.’
With my mind made up, I firmly press that I’d would like to receive the message.
Immediately my vision goes black, and suddenly I’m inside the body of a tall man with four arms, and what seems like lusty golden skin. I can’t move or control my body though, as if I were watching a first-person movie.
I’m on some sort of mountain, and below me are what seems like an endless tide of soldiers, each uniformly marching towards the mountain in the distance. It seems like some sort of scene from an old-world movie that I would see every once and a while.
Suddenly, I hear the old man speak.
“Hello future successor to my legacy, whoever you may be! My name is Solace, and today will be a day for the history books! Today, I will annihilate over 3 million soldiers of the Interplanetary Alliance in just a short few seconds with nothing but my sword and my cultivation! Bear witness to what can be done without the poison that the system so heavily pushes for that are skills.”
I watch as he unsheathes a sword so large that he uses all four of his hands to bear the full might of it. The sword itself is golden, even more golden than his skin, and is possibly one of the most beautiful swords I have ever witnessed.
It has detailed and intricate filigree all throughout it’s length, and a ornamental type of bird placed directly on the bottom, below the handle.
I stare as he bring the golden blade above his head, and begins channeling spiritual energy so strong and palpable, it can be seen in golden wisps that are beginning to coalesce towards the now shining blade.
The sword begins to slowly grow brighter and brighter, until I begin to wonder how the man is even seeing anything right now, as the swords is quite literally becoming as bright as the sun.
“Let my blade shine untainted, and the might of my purity banish those who stand before me!”
Suddenly, before I can even process the words Solace spoke, a projection of golden light forms into what seems to be a sword as tall as the eye can see. Then the sword falls, straight into the never-ending tide of soldiers.
When it lands, every single soldier within a mile of the impact zone immediately evaporates. Any soldier not close enough to be evaporated, falls into the rapidly expanding fault line that the impact caused.
I continue to stare dumbfoundedly as millions of soldiers die in an instant, death on a scale I haven’t even come close to seeing before.
He begins to speak again,
“This is the path to power you now possess without the disgusting eyesore that are skills to misguide you on your path. Understand this young fellow, life is cruel, even more so is the path to acquiring power.”
He pauses briefly,
“They will wipe any records of this battle taking place, I guarantee it, but if the Alliance still stands in your time, know that they are your enemy, and anyone you love’s enemy now that you have my legacy. I have left you a little present once you leave this message, use it wisely. Good luck on your path young one.”
Once again, my vision goes dark. I wake up standing exactly where I was before the message, with Uncle Moren and Gael standing around me with concern written all over their faces.
“What happened kid, you okay? You’ve been standing there with a blank look on your face for almost twenty minutes.” Uncle Moren asks.
Before I can respond, I get another notification.
I sigh, once again having a million and one questions, but instead I first placate the two men in front of me.
Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
“Yes yes, I’m fine, just some status stuff. Don’t worry about it.”
They both stare at me suspiciously.
“What kind of status stuff turns you braindead for twenty minutes?” Uncle Moren asks.
I glance at Gael before looking back at Uncle Moren with a conflicted look on my face.
Handing out info about one’s status is sort of a big deal. Most people do it with their closest family and friends, some don’t even do that.
He sighs and says, “Alright, you don’t have to tell us if you don’t want to, but just know that we have your best interests at heart here kid. Whatever it is though, Gael and I are knowledgeable enough to know what’s up.”
As they begin to walk away I quickly say,
“Ok I’ll tell you, not you though Gael, sorry, I just don’t trust you enough yet.”
“That’s quite alright young man, trust me, I know better than most that trust is earned.” He says as he quickly walks over to the former camp and begins small talk with Garut.
Uncle Moren turns to me and asks,
“Alright kid, what happened.”
I take a few second to collect my thoughts and say,
“I got a legacy class.”
“Wow, good for you kid, I knew you’d get something nice. Now what does that have to do with that little episode of yours.”
I then explain what happened, from the notification I received, to the army I saw get slaughtered, to the cryptic message I got about the alliance, and finally to the soul shard that’s now in my status.
“Hmm, Interesting… this could be a common thing with legacy classes, I wouldn’t exactly know though, as legacy classes are the rarest type of class behind legendary classes and unique classes.”
He pauses slightly before continuing,
“Though it is somewhat well-known that a person who inherits a legacy class, also inherits the class’s creator’s enemies and allies along with it. While the Interplanetary Alliance does still exists today, they are probably one of the weakest independent nations out there. The only reason They haven’t been invaded already is because the planets they control have little to no value at all.”
“So should I worry about this alliance coming after me?”
“No, probably not. Just don’t go advertising your legacy class and you’ll be fine.”
I sigh in relief before asking,
“What about this soul shard thing? What is it?”
“Soul shards are usually given out as rewards from the system, they’ll allow you to talk with whoever’s soul shard it is. Usually hey have unlimited uses, but I suppose that would be a bit too much for a starting class reward, so they weakened it slightly.”
“How long does each use last?”
“I don’t know, I’ve never had one so I couldn’t tell you. That’s for you to find out I suppose. Anyway, we’re leaving in five minutes, so be ready.”
He walks away and I’m left standing there in thought.
‘So many still unanswered questions. I still have no idea who the hell this Solace guy is or why the hell he killed millions of people that day. For all I know he could be a psychopath or something.
I decide to think more on it later, and take a look at my status.
