Chapter 13: Is It Fate

Chapter 13

Is it fate?

Sai’s body was suspended in the air, thick stalactite adorned with him as the garland. The Little Chief was satisfied with his work. He had ended an issue that could have caused him no end of trouble.

The little Chief shrunk down the large stone tree that he used to impale Silent. He pulled a piece of cloth out that looked like a small blanket and laid it atop the child's body. He promptly left the room.

The Little Chief went back up to the top floor and continued about his business. The Big Chief was sitting at the desk, a satisfied look on his face despite the fact that the report read that there were two casualties during a recent hunting expedition.

A scream could be heard from a servant. A wail that could cause ghosts to feel fear. Of course the two Chiefs knew what the commotion was about, but they still hurried toward the noise, panic on their faces. The Big Chief went to look at the body.

Silent was still laying there, it looked as if he were killed while sparring. “You,” the Big Chief said to a servant, “notify the boy's family.” He pointed at another servant, “You prepare a funeral.”

The crowd began to disperse, doing as the Chief said. The two Chiefs left the room as well to wait near the entrance of the house to meet Silent’s parents and explain the situation.

Nearly an hour passed by when Lilith and Lavits barged in. Lavits immediately began screaming at the two Chiefs, “What the fuck were you two doing? Where is my boy?” The shout could be heard across the entire tribe. Lilith had tears welling up in her eyes watching as her husband began to abuse the Big Chief. “I asked you a damn question! Where is he?”

At this point, the Little Chief attempted to console, but it was no good. There is no pain worse than losing a child. Lavits was beyond reason. There was a fire in his eye at that moment. Lavits knew that it was their fault and he wanted revenge.

A small knife flashed past the throat the the Little Chief. Blood sprang forth but stopped rather quickly, the Little Chief had been healed by someone. Only the Little Chief had the ability to restrain Lavits, and at this point, he couldn't.

Lavits whipped the knife back towards the Little Chief. More blood sprung forth bit ended just as quickly. Lavits spent an hour attempting to murder the person who had killed his son, but there were too many healers in that mansion. They wouldn't allow it. Eventually Lavits had worn himself out. He broke down and began to cry.

After that outburst, the two Chiefs ignored the crime and brought Sai’s parents to the training room. “What you are going to see is rather gruesome,” the Big Chief said. He opened the door and a small blanket covered in blood was laying on the ground.

“Where is he,” the Big Chief asked a servant, “where is the boy?” The servant became very confused since no one had entered or exited the room since he was posted as a guard there.

“Right here,” no louder than a whisper was made from the far corner of the room, behind a sack of hay on a post.

Both the Little Chief and Lavits had exceptional hearing, there were many benefits in breaking into the basic realm.

In the far corner of the room a small child was standing. Very much alive, and it was obvious there was no hole in him, though there was a large hole in his clothes and quite a lot of blood.  The Sai’s face was pale as can be from quite a lot of blood loss. But he still looked determined.

“Not as dead as when you left me last, huh?” Sai asked the Little Chief.

“It must be a miracle then,” sneered Big Chief. “How did it feel to be brought back from the dead?”

“Ha,” Sai laughed, “it felt truly agonizing.” Only this time, Sai didn't rely on Orza to bring him back. In fact, Sai was mostly healed when the servant screamed and the two Chiefs came down just about an hour before. Sai had already been faking dead at the time when he was impaled, and since the spear-like rock had punctured his lung, So he couldn't scream out. He truly looked as if he had died.

Instead, after the little chief left, Sai began to use a healing spell. It sapped him of all remaining energy and only healed him most of the way. It repaired his lung and bones, but flesh and muscle were still missing. The blood pooled up in the place where he was punctured and looked as if he still had a hole in his chest.

It just so happened that Sai was able to draw in enough energy to convert it to another healing spell, he just needed some time to replace the lost blood and recover from shock. Lilith was the first to react and had ran to her son. Ignoring her son's blood covered clothes, she hugged him deeply. “I'll heal you more,” she said as a small light aspirated under her palm. Sai’s face became less pale in seconds while the two Chiefs became more pale.

“I think you owe us an explanation. Why would my son have been harmed to this state in your own home?” Lavits questioned. He got an answer that he had expected.

“I was in my study when this happened. We will make a full investigation,” the big chief said. Lavits had already known better, but he could do nothing to either of them with the healers there, and he likely couldn't beat the Little Chief at all of it was an actual fight.

“Good, I must apologize to you,” Lavits said to the Little Chief, “I was angry and blamed everyone here.” Lavits had hooted to clean up his mess of attacking Little Chief. It was fairly plain that it didn't work, but with so many people watching neither of the Chiefs did anything to him or his family.

“Can we go home,” Sai asked innocently. Today had been a very long day for Sai. He had neared death and narrowly escaped. He had also learned how to use lightning at the most basic of levels. Finally, he had learned that on this world, murder may be a necessary way to protect one's self and family. Though it would never be his first choice, he would now have to harden his heart and if the situation looks bad, kill the person that is the threat.

The black family left the two Chiefs mansion. Silent was being carried by his mother, not because he couldn't walk, but because she was so anxious. After a far shorter walk that it usually took Sai, they arrived home.

Add the doors closed an urgent voice entered the heads of of the small family, Thank the heavens he is safe. What happened child?  The stream of thoughts came from Sai’s grandmother. Then Sai began to explain the situation from the beginning through the connection created by Sai’s grandmother’s mental connection.

At the end of his story everyone in the house was very surprised that he had been fast enough and strong enough to survive. Sai then followed up his story, Those two Chiefs will get what they deserve soon enough. There was a strong resolution in Sai’s mental voice. Sai had a plan to end the oppression in his tribe. Their freedom will start at home and their safety at home will be the true start of Silent’s adventure toward power. The power to protect the people he cares about.
