Princess Beatrice was a busy woman. Her mother was ill which meant that even though she wasn’t officially queen she practically ran the place. Between paperwork and public appearances she had very little time for herself.
She slipped into her invisible state and walked outside, all she wanted was a few minutes of silence with no one asking her questions or giving her more problems to solve. It was peaceful outside, and the wind blew calmly passing through her. The tranquil moment almost made her forget the ball happening in a few days, to find a prince for her to marry. It didn’t feel necessary, she could handle the work on her own; a man would probably just make things worse. As peaceful as this moment was, she couldn’t sit here forever. She became visible and adjusted her hair to make sure she was presentable. She was meeting her handmaiden today.
Kori got out of the car and looked up at the large castle doors. They were wooden and were warm and inviting compared to the heavy metal doors back home. She pressed against her long beige dress to make sure the revolver was secure in the thigh holster. She wanted to get this done as soon as possible, justifying it in her head by thinking about the war that would ensue if she was unsuccessful. She walked in to be met with a girl slightly shorter than her. She wore a floral dress and her red hair perfectly complemented her watercolour eyes. After a second of staring, analysing not admiring, she bowed.

“Hello, your majesty, I’m Kori” No one in her own kingdom even knew her name so she had no reason to lie.
“Hi! Don’t worry about niceties, you can call me Bea.” She responded in a bubbly voice that didn’t quite match the serious exterior of a girl who had to grow up so quickly.
Bea grabbed her arm and led her up a spiral staircase dragging her joyfully until she reached a set of two doors. She opened the first one and did a playful bow, “M’lady”.
“I believe that’s my job, princess”
“Again, no need for the title, the room next door is mine. I’ll let you unpack quickly and I’ll meet you there?
Kori nodded and waited for her to leave before unpacking her things.
Turns out Beatrice wasn’t the heartless leader her parents made her out to be, not even close. She couldn’t even convince herself she was acting because she knew Bea’s every thought. Turns out the princess thinks she has pretty eyes. She unpacked her clothes, there wasn't much, her parents planned for her to do this pretty quickly.
